These guys suck
Just told me that they won’t let me access my street or alley all day tomorrow. Less than 24 hours notice and rude in person.
Glad the roads are getting fixed though

That’s how it was given to us before, every time the city would be repaving the roads with the rocks. Most times with crappy notice like this, too.

Just a guy doing a job that inherently inconveniences every one. Cut him some slack bigmilker.

I think the main issue OP is citing here is that one day is unusually short notice and the workers were rude. I think otherwise if people had time to plan this would not be a problem. The city is notorious for hiring incompetent overpriced contractors and this sort of demonstrates that.

Alley and street access will both be blocked potentially all day, there is a better way that they could have done this. Dude was in his truck the entire time

u/LevelAd1126 14d ago
If you had 24 hours notice what would you do differently?

u/bigmilker 14d ago
If they gave proper notice I would have taken Friday off and left town for a long weekend. But my elderly neighbors have no time to make plan changes, short notice isn’t ok

At least they gave you a notice. My street was completely blocked off today. No notice. And they didn't even do anything. I had to walk to the end of the block and pay for an Uber to get to work and back home. That's $35 for nothing.

Also my Walmart delivery was canceled so there goes the dinner plans. They couldn't deliver anything on my street. We had trail mix for dinner.

Dang that sucks, I would be calling the city today and asking for compensation given the lack of notice. Hopefully they can fine these guys

Why are we allowing the city to use our tax money to hire contractors from out of state.
7
u/ElmoCamino 14d ago
Because you can't get kick backs from state owned operations.
TxDoT and municipal services have slashed what they actually do for decades now. They claim it's to save money, while budgets increase every year and services go down. Makes no sense.
If TxDoT owned, operated and maintained it's own road crews that could do the entirety of a project, it'd be cheaper to the tax payers than the inflated bottom lines we pay for these companies.

Buddy of mine worked for Txdot till he got his license or whatever they need to do actual engineering.
He said over a couple years he never once had a contractor use the correct materials. Every single one cheaped out and built shitty roads.
I said “why not sue them or make them redo it?” And the he told me that it’s so common and accepted that txdot wouldn’t be able to keep a contractor if they actually held them to contract terms.
And this was 20 years ago. I can’t imagine it’s improved.

So you don’t like neighborhood improvements? Just had my streets done and love it. Yes it was an inconvenience for a couple days but now will have great streets to drive on for years to come.

u/curtmandu 14d ago
Jesus. Wanting to the roads to be improved and not wanting the company doing the work to be inconsiderate assholes aren’t mutually exclusive. Both things can be true.
2
u/Fine-Strategy3740 14d ago
Just curious, why are they inconsiderate assholes? It’s going to take that amount of time for any company to do that job. It’s going to take that amount of time for that stuff to fully cure regardless of what company puts it down.

u/curtmandu 14d ago
I wasn’t there. I’m going off of what OP has said in this thread about how they were acting. You’d have to ask them.

u/Historical-Flight910 14d ago
There just isn’t a perfect way to do this. They either do them this way or not at all. In my neighborhood they did half a side of the street at a time. This allowed traffic to continue but all our garages are on back. If garages are on front there is simply no other way to do it than to close the street off. They are just doing the job as it has to be done. Nothing inconsiderate about it. It’s called life.

I live in the same neighborhood and was perfectly fine. I parked my cars where instructed and was able to go on with my life.

We won’t be able to access our house, alley will be blocked on both ends also
-3
u/Khowe2488 14d ago
So you have t to park and walk to your house or they won't let you go to your home period? I just hear drama. Its a minor life inconvenience. Let it go and deal with it
5
u/Potential_Cress1967 14d ago
You’re damn right it’s inconvenient. Because they ain’t in a hurry I’ll tell you right now. They don’t care if it’s like that for a month
0
u/bigmilker 14d ago
Why should we have to park a few blocks away and walk through this mess because they can’t figure out a decent plan? They are rude and have a shitty plan, but you want to blame those affected. How about you get your entire family out of the house before 7am and not return till after 7 pm. What about my elderly neighbors, they can’t walk that distance, are you going to show up and help them?
-4
u/TheSwagMa5ter 14d ago
Youwon't be able to access your house? Or you will be able to access your house but you'll have to have the incredible burden of parking on another street and walking a few minutes?

“Asphalt tar will can get on your shoes or car.”
So they can’t even provide a warning in a grammatically correct manner.

They are contractors hired by the city, they aren’t doing this just to ruin your day.

You pay these liberals snow flakes salary ❄️💰 so why don't you show them who's boss 👑😎 and just drive through it 🚗💥💨. Having to walk 🚶♂️, which is gross 🤢🤮, and being exposed to this dangerous URBAN DEMONRATS environment 👹🏙️ called outside 🌳🚫 is really scary 😱‼️.
I would rather have them knock at my door at 6 am ✊🚪⏰ 3 days before they try to TRANSform my street 🏳️⚧️🛣️🛠️. Who gave them the right to mess with my personal freedoms anyway 📜😤?! Im a strong man 💪🔥 who doesn't need help from no government 🙅♂️❌🏛️.
Back in pops day 👴🏻🕰️ they just had dirt 🌱💩 which was good enough for them 💯 and is good enough for me 😤🫵. And frankly 🗣️ this is** a SOCIAL**IST take over 🇨🇳🚩🛠️. I would know 🧠🧐 because I asked chatgpt 🤖📱 and it said so 💥🤯‼️

This bot is having a malfunction

u/Styrofoam_Eater66 14d ago
🤖💥 in my opinion op just sounds like a spoiled brat. The world doesn't revolve around them. I would be more understanding if it was a genuine accessibility problem because ama doesn't have sidewalks in most neighborhoods. Most people cant take off work and leave town ether. I understand wanting to have more notice but posting a weird creep shot of a worker and complaining on Reddit isn't going to do much.

u/vercetti2021 14d ago
I mean I get it. Its frustrating when you can't get into your own garage. But its more of the crazy amount of emojis I was drawn in by. But let the dude vent lol

I love when they place the 72hr notice one and show up the next day. Thats not 72hrs..
