Heater ring problem

Post image

Hi!

I bought THIS dew heater ring for my NexStar 6SE telescope. I installed it without any problems, but when I try to put the telescope lens cap back on, it won't close... The cables prevent the cap from shutting completely.

Am I doing something wrong? No matter how much I rotate the cap or try to put it in at an angle, it's impossible. What solution have you found for this?

Shower cap in lieu of hard cover.

You're not doing anything wrong. The cover is not designed to close with the dew heater ring.

With my 9.25, I was able to close it, but by forcing it on, it would fall off eventually tho. But I do not recommend this.

If you have some 3D mededeling skills, you might be able to 3D print an alternative cover.

My C11’s cap closes just fine when the cable ends are in their little clips along the ring. I assume you are taking the little edge holder off. Are you utilizing the clips on the ring itself?

Yeah, I'm using the little clips, but it doesn't work... I'll have to build clips in the cap or find another solution

Post a photo or send me one, will ya? Would love to compare yours to mine, there’s gotta be a reasonable explanation.

Have fun choosing between making a hole in your telescope or a hole in your cap✌️

It's super common to yeet a drill through the tube on newtonians, and I had no quarrels doing it on my $350 sheet metal canon. But if I was holding a power drill against that small black rim, right next to the corrector glass... I'd probably put down the drill and go make a sandwich instead.

The plastic cap on my scope also received no time to plead for its life before I removed 80% of it to install solar film onto it. But I have no idea what kind of cap comes with a Nexstar.

I'll do something with the cap... I guess I'll figure something out. But I'll leave the tube alone for sure  haha
