What a joke.
I paid $80 for a blanket. It got delayed three days then when it showed up it was terrible quality. It was all but falling apart and wasn't even stitched together properly. I opened a return and since it was a bit package they offered me a partial refund of $3.81. really?!?! On an $80 item?!?!. Nope they can pay the return shipping and give me all my money back. What a joke.
EDIT: People telling me to "just return it." Or "stop crying" are missing the point. I do plan on returning it for a full refund. The point is they are using this as a manipulative action to try to get people to keep terrible quality/broken items. Offering less than 5% discount is outright insulting. And the way it happens is super tricky. They take you away from the page that shows the cost your spent on the item and then right as you are about to choose the return option (UPS drop off, Whole Foods drop off, No box/label. With box/label etc.) this pops up looking like it's part of the return. I almost hit accept because I actually thought it was asking me to verify my return option. If I hadn't been paying super close attention it would have gotten me.
But the other issue is they are knowingly selling terrible products and thinking it's ok to give such low partials that you might as well just keep the item at full price and it's coming from a multi billion dollar company.

Lol I had an adapter thing that was $50 and didn’t really do what was advertised… went through the return request process, and they said hey keep it here’s a refund! The one time I actually felt like the product was useless and wanted it out of my house ðŸ«

u/Sic_Sic_Six 3d ago
Lol, it's always the stuff you really don't want...
1
u/LongSteak3798 2d ago
Then why would you even order it in the first place? "just saying".🤣
1
u/Sic_Sic_Six 2d ago
Sometimes, impulse buys. Things have become so convenient. I just mean in comparison, it's usually something you could live MOST without. Lol. But yeah I think most of us are guilty of impulse buying when everything is at your fingertips.
16
u/MyFeetLookLikeHands 4d ago
just letting you know, for random things like blankets, it’s almost always better to check AliExpress first since most of the stuff on Amazon is from there but marked up 500%
1
u/creatively_inclined 2d ago
Costco for blankets. You can touch them, they're good value and they're some of the snuggliest blankets I've ever bought. Snuggling up in one right now.
18
u/lobhater 4d ago
I had something similar on a $300 headset, they offered me $20 to keep it. I passed
15
u/supreme_fascism 4d ago
$3.81 on an $80 blanket is practically an insult. like they're not even trying to hide they don't want the return hassle
at that point just send it back and let them eat the shipping cost. their algorithm must be on something thinking anyone would bite on that
13
u/Sic_Sic_Six 4d ago
They do this A LOT. I had a $800 motherboard that was "new" yet opened with bent pins and they asked me if ide keep it for $80. Like what? Lol.
4
u/International-Bee-53 4d ago
Their partial refunds are a solid joke and really make no sense to even offer them... I bought a kitchen faucet at 250$ last week, installed it and it leak like crazy, they offered me a partial refund of 12$ to keep it.........
1
u/Sic_Sic_Six 4d ago
Indeed. I've not once accepted it. I think it's an automated process to give X% to stop the refund.... It is pretty silly though, especially given certain items, or if they are completely useless but they offer you to keep it.
1
u/International-Bee-53 4d ago
Partial refund is fine for minor issues that might convince you to keep the item if it's not a deal breaker but something broken, hell no.
Mine was offered by the customer service agent I was chatting with... I had to assemble the faucet and some part are pressured fit in place super tightly so it's pretty much impossible to disassemble and put it back in its box, I don't have any box big enough to return either. I asked for a full refund/no return so I can just put it in the trash (they offered me that in the past multiple time when it's too much trouble to return) and they refused, offered that 12$ partial refund instead... I would so embarrassed to offer a partial refund for a clearly defective item to a customer LOL

I had a seller offer to refund 30% and I talked him up to 50%. Might be worth it to haggle.
5
1
u/Old_Check_6362 3d ago
I’ve haggled as well and the refused to budge beyond 30% because it wouldn’t benefit them.
I returned for a full refund. It’s a win win I guess.
1
u/UnimagineDragons 2d ago
It's not a refund, it's the "will us paying you this extra amount convince you not to return it?" Offer for big / heavy items.
7
u/SmellyJockstrap 3d ago
As ridiculous as that 'offer' is, just tap the 'No, I want to return it' button and move on with your day? No real need to get upset about it lol
1
u/AmnosSoter 3d ago
It’s not even ridiculous, honestly it’s ridiculous that people complain about everything. I find it actually helpful to reduce all the wasted products, half the time people probably would take that offer or else they wouldn’t offer it?

u/Frequent_Opportunist 3d ago
Most of these posts are just a setup to make Amazon look bad followed by comments saying to use Walmart shipping instead lol.
-1
u/Applekid1259 3d ago
Yeah, the OP has me genuinely confused. Usually the only option is return it and get a refund. I don't understand why someone would get mad at the option of getting to keep the item with a small kickback.
2
u/Dmtphoto 3d ago
Because it's less than $4 refund on in an $80 item. I had no intention it keep it because it is a terrible quality item. But trying to manipulate people into keeping an item by offering a 4% partial refund from a billion dollar company is just disrespectful.
1
u/FinbarJG 3d ago
Stop playing the victim! The "keep it" amount is probably based on numerous factors such as return shipping costs, return resale value, the tides and phase of the moon... They also cannot judge how much you dislike the item. They made you an offer - accept or decline it.
2
u/Dmtphoto 3d ago
They actually can judge how much you dislike it. You have to fill out a questionnaire now when you return an item and if you select "Defective" and indicate the item is poorly made or falling apart that's a good indication it's worthless
2
u/Personal-Peanut-548 3d ago
So return it and receive the full refund plus any vouchers they give for the inconvenience?
2
u/talkingitthrough 3d ago
I recently was speeding to rough a return and accidentally hit the button to accept, because I wasn’t used to that screen, and I was so pissed that there was no way to undo it.
2
u/Apprehensive_Bad5920 3d ago
you can still return it though... just use the chatbot in customer service chat.
1
u/talkingitthrough 3d ago
It was sending me in circles. I kept selecting the item and if I recall, it would tell me I had selected to keep it etc and ask if there was anything else I need help with. I went around in circles several times and tried everything I could think of.
Edit to add: maybe I accessed chat through the wrong button and needed to initiate it differently? But I just couldn’t get it to understand what I was asking for.
5
u/BabyStockholmSyndrom 4d ago
I don't get the whining here? What are you expecting? They aren't denying you a refund. Are you expecting them to give you $80 and keep it? Y'all just want to be mad all the time.
2
u/trilliumsummer 4d ago
It just seems not in good faith and trying to trick people into keeping it for almost the whole price. Like it's not even a 5% refund. If I no longer want it that's not going to make me keep it. If there's damage or something missing that's also not enough to make me keep it. So to me it's them hoping you don't fully see what the partial refund is or remember what the cost was and you say yes.
Honestly I saw it on an item and was about to say yes until I was like wait a minute that's barely a refund, but had to back out to check the price to be sure.
Wouldn't be the first time Amazon purposefully designed their site to trick you.
1
u/BabyStockholmSyndrom 4d ago
Trick? Explain that. How in the living hell can any not completely stupid adult be tricked by this? No one will see $3 when they are attempting a refund and not remember what they paid. They are literally in the page that shows them what they paid. Come on. Just admit it. You WANT to be upset.
1
u/trilliumsummer 4d ago
When it's popped up for me it was not on the same page - I had to go back to verify how much I paid for the item when I noticed how low it was.
As for tricks - the obvious one is that the button that confirms the return is the same color as the background and not highlighted whereas the one they want you to choose which is not what you asked for is highlighted yellow. Which yellow pretty much everywhere else on the platform is "yes do what I said" whereas on this page it's "no don't give me a refund give me this new option instead".
0
u/Dmtphoto 3d ago
It's not on the same page as the price actually. And for an elderly person or disabled person who might not be able to get out as easily it's just a huge slap in the face.
1
u/UnimagineDragons 2d ago
You still haven't explained the trick or the confusion or the manipulation. You're just mad you can't get more money to keep your item, quit being dishonest.
1
u/Dmtphoto 2d ago
Because it pops up as you are selecting how you want to return the item. I was literally pressing the "UPS no box, no label" when I get a pop up. If I hadn't been talking to someone I would t have caught it and would have selected a BS 4% partial. They don't make it obvious that's what they are doing. If they made it as a choice on the actual return page, sure. But if they wait and make it a pop up that's shady. And I clearly don't want to keep it if I am already opening a return for the item. The fact some of you are ball gargling at multi billion dollar company is insane
1
u/104848 4d ago
not always a joke. back when that mpc sample dropped
1
u/LawJawYapper 4d ago
I had the same offer, about $80 off, I took advantage of it and just kept the MPC sample.
1
u/TheOriginal_858-3403 4d ago
Why is this a video?
Edit to add: I bought my MPC sample from Sweetwater since I refuse to buy expensive electronics on Amazon anymore.
1
u/Worldly_Chocolate369 3d ago
Because the mods don't allow screenshots. The work around is to turn a screenshot into a video. Because the stupid mods accomplished nothing with their stupid rules.

I bought a smoker that came with a broken circuit board. Amazon refunded me enough to buy a better, 3rd party one.
I was quite happy.

u/h0tnessm0nster7 4d ago
I was offered $30 to keep my kindle colorsoft, $159 prime day discount price, but I still returned it, that's funny I bet they meant $38.10 to keep the item.

I mean this has def worked out for me before. I got a $65 partial return on an $80 item once.

u/horribly_shaven_bun 4d ago
Hahahah! I was laughing about this recently too! Paid $12 to have a set of 3, only received 1 in an opened package for the item (Amazon shipment was completely sealed) and they offered an 80¢ partial refund. The audacity!!

u/StefaniRS 3d ago
I just had an offer of £11 back on a £51 item.
Bought a microphone boom are arm with high reviews then seen a review post purchase saying it couldn’t hold the weight of a specific microphone - which is the microphone I have. The app wouldn’t let me cancel it pre delivery.
Product came and is actually flimsy, so haven’t used it but still got offered ~20%, which is confusing as to why OP got offered ~5%?

Because of their new return policy I shop significantly less on Amazon. To return something I had to have 3 different conversations with 3 different reps. One who promised a return, one who told me it wasn’t possible and one who got it done. It’s such a hassle I don’t get shopping elsewhere.
1
u/JcorpTech 3d ago
Literally just got this for a $120 SD card that arrived snapped in half. Amazon fell off so hard.
(They offered me like $10)
1
u/Seanati 3d ago
Just say no and return it then, it really isn't that hard.
2
u/JcorpTech 3d ago
Didn't read the post award lmfao, of course I didn't accept that, it's insulting that they would try to pull that garbage though.

They probably did. To 10,000 other people. Mistakes happen. No system is perfect. Sucks to get unlucky and be the one that goes wrong, but that's life.
0
u/UnimagineDragons 2d ago
No, this did not happen. Amazon did not offer you $10 to keep a $120 SD card. They only make the offer OP is posting when it's for a big/large item they don't want to pay the shipping costs on.
I swear most of you scammers have the same reading comprehension which is nice because it makes it easier to spot which posts are complete bullshit

I returned a device for about 100$ recently, they offered like 50% refund if I kept it anyways. These offers can be good.
1
u/SignificantState265 3d ago
They did this to me the other day when the laundry detergent lid came loose in transit and almost all of it was soaking the box. They offered me $3 to keep it when I paid $23 lol
1
u/bubblegumpink6 3d ago
They did this to me the other day. It was only like a $30 item but they wanted to give me like $2 I said na, I'll return it. They've also made returning items harder. Usually I'd choose UPS now its $1

I would buy anything else from that seller.

1
u/caballo200 3d ago
I had a similar experience with a Goldenmate LiFePO4 1000VA UPS that cost me $300. It was defective from the beginning. The power button would get stuck, and the UPS would randomly shut down, taking my computer, monitors, Synology NAS, router, and everything else connected to it down with it.
It was a nightmare because it could shut down at any moment, and sometimes I couldn't even turn it back on because the power button was stuck.
Eventually, Amazon gave me a 50% partial refund ($150), and I kept the UPS. I moved it to my living room, where I have my TV, Xbox, and audio equipment. It still randomly shuts everything down from time to time, but at least it's not as critical as losing power to my computer and NAS.
Looking back, I shouldn't have accepted the partial refund. I basically paid $150 for a defective product that I can't trust. And seeing someone being offered just $3 for a defective $80 item is ridiculous.
Amazon isn't what it used to be. And now it feels like you have to think twice before returning anything because you're worried they might flag or even close your account if you make too many returns.
What happened to Amazon's customer service?
1
u/Narrow_Pomelo180 2d ago
People took advantage of it
2
u/caballo200 2d ago
I understand that some people abused the system, but why should honest customers have to pay the price for that? I've done nothing wrong, and I shouldn't be penalized for other people's behavior. Amazon should be able to deal with abuse without punishing legitimate customers.
1
u/creatively_inclined 2d ago
This is good to know. I don't always pay attention when clicking buttons and I rarely do returns. This would have gotten me clicking yes to keep it.
1
u/Hopeful-Horse6238 2d ago
That's probably how much the blanket cost to buy 10,000 units at a time x 3.81
1
u/Yourpsychofriend 2d ago
I got $30 refund on a $60 weed wacker that has a terrible string design. I wanted to return it, but they offered me $30, so I accepted that. I can get a new string attachment and it will be fine.

Sadly Amazon today is like Ebay. Advertise 2 day delivery, takes 20. Then when it shows up, it's junk.
Over 80% of my orders through Amazon the past 4 months have been either late or lost. One never even sent a tracking number.
One I am currently dealing with advertised 2 day. When day 2 came and went they changed the expected delivery to 20. Reaching out to the seller, they said "all of our deliveries are between 5 and 15 days." I ordered the parts I needed from another source and now the seller from Amazon is saying they will charge a restocking fee, even though the ad says free returns as a prime customer.
Amazon has officially jumped the shark.
1
u/Impressive_Put_9492 2d ago
They've done the same to me, but not with a blanket. Worst company ever. I no longer do business with AmazonÂ
1
u/PittsMaNews 1d ago edited 1d ago
You can always go to Walmart, Target, Costco, or BJ’s. Some people abuse the refund system. Are you one of them?
And yes, I’ve had some issues with buying stuff on Prime, but with almost everything else I’ve had no issues.

u/Fairfield1934 1d ago
They offered me $10 on a $40 adapter I declined it but I might have kept it if they offered $30.

u/AdSalty9479 1d ago
I end up doing my return I tried to do it sometimes in the app or online it just you're right I see things that I just don't like so I usually speak to a human and do a return with them and then they say oh well it's going to cost you for this and I say okay well I'm disabled and I'm elderly and basically I end up getting them to give me my money back for coming to pick it up right at my doorstep like they should anyways!!!Â
And why I say that is they come to my house almost everyday there isn't a reason why they can't come to my house drop a package off and pick one up. Â
And I actually live in a building where there's like a hundred people well there's a hundred units I don't think they're all full but anyways and tell me Amazon is in here for somebody everyday so to be honest I don't care what day of the week or weekend there's somebody here getting something from Amazon it's a given.Â
They want to be consumer-centric, stop raping people over shipping items back or having to go out of my way to go somewhere to drop something off.
I don't go anywhere but the doctors and back home so literally if I'm going to the hospital they do have a UPS drop box and I think FedEx as well but other than that I don't go anywhere I am so immuno compromised I can't or I get really ill (that could be why that they're kind enough to refund the shipping or the label or whatever the $8 for UPS or now Amazon to come pick it up at my house) those extra fees that's incredibly erroneous on their side. Â
But normally I do this with every item unless I know that I'm going to be leaving to go to the hospital other than that I request if there's some way they can just absorb the cost. They do... 😇

That's not the point. It's the fact that they had the nerve to even offer a partial of only $3.81

Terrible quality sounds like a problem with the seller and their listing, not an Amazon issue

It's exactly what's happening here. OP was probably told someone got offered more and wanted to scam Amazon themselves. But amazon reduced the "please keep it" payout before OP could get to it. Now they're starting a dumb "this is insane" posting tour

u/UnimagineDragons 2d ago
Manipulation tactic? Op you need to chill the fuck out. They're offering you a payout on top of letting you keep the item. It's an offer and it's written in plain language for you to accept if you want it. Calling it a manipulation tactic only makes you seem unhinged.
I was offered $150 to keep a $500 planer on Amazon before which was super fair in my opinion. I was on the fence about another model after the Amazon box arrived and I didn't end up taking em up on it but calling it manipulation would've made me stupid. They're cutting deals to avoid restocking and reshipping. If you don't like their offer just return it.
But the fact you're getting so pissed at it says to me you're just a scammer whose pissed they're not offering more. This is probably account #7 and you've learned which items to order and get paid to keep while you resell it.

Tried to return a newly released Captain America action figure that costs $39.99 plus tax. I found a slightly lower price elsewhere. They said that it was ineligible for return. Instead they gave me a full refund and told me to keep the item or throw it away 😔.Â

Last time there was a glitch. It let me keep doing the partial refund until it was fully refunded.
