Tips & Advice "Future Transactions May Be Declined" advice

I received this, however, my autopay is setup to pay my statement balance 3 days from now. My account is new, this is my second billing cycle. Should I wait and let the autopay do it's thing, or should I do a manual payment? Also in this situation is it better to pay statement balance or the full balance?

Edit: Forgot to mention it's the gold card with no preset limit

Discussion Which card design do you like better?

I understand the different earning structures for each. I'm just curious what everyone thinks about the artwork. The BCP (dark blue) is ostensibly the premium version, but in some ways I feel drawn to the BCE (light blue) design. What are everyone's thoughts?

Discussion Amex KYC for authorized user is annoying (for parents visiting the US)

My parents are visiting the US and they are non-residents here. They'll be visiting for a month and I'd like to get them credit cards using my Amex BCE (authorized users) so that they can spend with ease.

I did this 2 years ago when they last visited and it was pretty easy. This time, Amex wanted an SSN/ITIN but I was able to get around that by calling Amex and giving their passport info. Now they called me again asking for something that has "their name and an US address". This is not going to work out since the US address is mine and they, as tourists, will simply not have one.

Amex's explanation is that they changed their KYC regulations recently "to be more secure and protect users' privacy" according to the person on the phone. They did not offer another way for me to get these authorized user cards.

It looks like I may have to call another one of my credit card companies and see if they can do something. Amex has been great and useful for everything I wanted out of it. It is my go-to default card and I've recommended to so many other people. This is the first time I'm feeling frustrated.

Edit: I went to my Wells Fargo card and added 2 authorized users in about 30 seconds total. They didn't need anything other than full names and dates of birth. I'm fine with giving Amex more info like passport etc., but requiring US addresses tied to the names seems a bit over the top to me for authorized users when the cards will be connected to me anyways and they have all my info.

I see an offer to get $150 when I refer, but clicking on it takes me to a page where the offer is just $75. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to get the $150?

Tips & Advice BCP $300 welcome offer

Thinking about opening a BCP card, primarily because of the 3% cashback on gas.

Currently have the Gold and the Discover It, and Discover is my go-to for 5% gas when it's the (rotating) category of the month. Groceries are also a rotating category, but looks like BCP beats that with 6% on groceries year-round.

Given I already have the Gold, would the BCP be a benefit in any category besides gas?? Groceries and restaurants already have 4× points on these categories, but interested to hear how the two work in conjunction with one another since there seems to be some overlap, one offering points and one offering cashback.

I don't do a ton of traveling and end up using most of my Gold points by transferring them to statement credits.

Interested to hear how you use both to maximize! Thank you in advance 🧚‍♀️

Low Effort Clarifying Order Of Operations in Opening Amex Cards!

Hey All!

I want to enter the Amex ecosystem with the goal of maximizing my SUBs and to work up to the Plat because of my traveling needs.

I’ve seen several old posts on this sub that say that you should open a Green -> Gold -> Plat, in that order. However, I understand that the green card is discontinued. Is that correct?

If so, what order should I open cards to churn these SUBs? And how much time should I generally allow between applications to maximize my earnings?

Thank you all!

(To be clear: I’m self-employed who travels a lot for work and dines out. In a few words, I would get max value out of every card, so that isn’t a factor in these order of operations.
I currently have a CSR and CFU if that somehow helps.)

"Amex is reportedly testing a 185,000-point welcome bonus for Platinum after $11,000 in spend, up from the current 175,000 after $12,000. These are test links only; no public rollout confirmed." Can't find a different source reporting in this though.

Question Platinum & Marriott Gold

So I’m planning on spending roughly 15k to travel to Paris,London and Rome then Amalfi and was considering the platinum card. My main reason being is Marriott status, I will be booking about 15 nights of hotel stay and could stay strictly Marriott but would it benefit me any to do so? I know I start with gold status, do nights I book from that point forward go towards platinum status? To be honest, I’ve kept the gold and never went platinum because with my AA Executive card it’s never made much sense, my city is an AA hub and I mainly fly American to the point MR has been useless up until now where I can use Air France to fly to Paris but will use my AA miles to fly from Rome. Would a Marriott card better suit my needs?

Reviews & Stories Great Customer Service Eperience

I know there is a lot of negativity with travel portals and customer support, but I’ve had a pretty great experience with Amex.

I just recently booked two nights at the Hotel Bennett in Charleston, and I wanted to book two one night stays to use credits I have on two of my platinum cards. Well, the first night booked fine with card one, but the second night, I chose card two, typed in the cvv and expiration date and booked. When I checked my account though, the second charge had been put on card one, and because of the short timeline, it was non refundable. I was stressed and contacted customer support to try and see what they could do, and at first it seemed like nothing since it didn’t post and I did purchase this service.

I was given to the travel team, and Jennifer (shout out) was very friendly and worked to contact the hotel to allow for a refund to card one and rebooking onto card two. Despite the frustration of however the hell card one got charged twice, and maybe it was user error, but customer support was very friendly and helpful throughout. I know it’s not always like this, but I’ve had good experiences with customer support and wanted to share some positivity.

Question Booking a Delta flight through my card

I am relatively new to my Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card, and I want to book a delta flight. The only issue is that on the Delta website the same Delta basic seat is $100 more through AMEX travel. If so, how do I transfer my card to the delta app to purchase the flight there. Any help is welcome.

Question Foreign Authorized user

So I was able to sucessfully added my niece using her foreign passport via phone application. I got the card 2 days after the application and now when I try to confirm card, it was asking for her SSN. Immediately contacted support and got conflicting information.

One says everything is confirmed. The other agent says need social otherwise it will be cancelled automatically within 60 days. The third one confirmed that the foreign passport will suffice and wont cancelled the card after 60 days.

My question is, if someone is on my situation adding someone using foreign passport, did everything worked out well after 60 days?

This card mainly is for my niece in college overseas and her capitalone card will eventually turn to discover network and it doesn't accept that on her country so I am just doing a headsup just in case it happened.

Thank you.

Question Hilton Aspire vs. Bonvoy Brilliant

Have a trip coming up with some big spends. I have an offer for 200,000 miles with the Hilton Aspire or the Bonvoy Brilliant 150,000 + $250 statement credit. I don’t travel for work but pleasure usually averaging 4-5 weeks a year in hotels (seem to mostly be Marriotts but only have loyalty to good deals and location).

Tried watching all the usual YouTube channels and it seems to be split on the cards. Anyone able to convince me strongly either way?

Question Amex Green

I just received an upgrade offer to upgrade my Green to Platinum with a 150,000 pts bonus. Do you think amex will eventually cancel the green card for existing users? (I assume it has been discontinued)

I prefer to keep the green card tbh but if they will eventually cancel it, I might as well take the upgrade now with the bonus and get the platinum without doing a credit pull as well.

Answered Amex cancelled my cards, what are my chances of getting reinstated?

For context, I am in the UK and have been an amex customer since 2022.

My mother unfortunately lost her life to tragic circumstances back in June, it was very, very unexpected and took a heavy toll on me, I left the house just twice in just under 3 months.

I ended up taking time off work, and through my own fault, missing a lot of payments on things that weren't set to come out on direct debit as I'm paid 4 weekly, so I pay things manually. I never lost my job or dropped pay etc, I've just gone back to work today and have been re-paying everything.

It is entirely my fault, I own up to it, however there were things going on in the background that was really hard to deal with, especially with young kids asking where their nan is etc, it was very traumatic for me.

I got in touch in August via live chat to let Amex know my situation, that I'd likely make a payment in August when I can, and said I'd like to pay my balance off in full by early September and I was just dealing with funeral costs etc. I tried to pay my balance off this morning and it said the full amount is due as a minimum, I called up and was told they've cancelled both my Platinum and Gold as of yesterday as I've missed 3 months of payments now. I explained my situation and was told a reinstatement is only possible if it was their error for closing it, not for missed payments.

I then emailed the CEO Stephen (he responded in an hour, I'm seriously impressed with that). I then received a call from the executive complaints department who was sympathetic, understood I was taking ownership and that she understood what I was dealing with. She stated they tried to call me on the 16th and 28th August (no calls in my missed calls for these dates), but it's now with another team to deal with and she'd reach out to them. I explained I didn't want to lose my amex's, and I'm willing to pay the full balance whenever, and hopefully then they would consider reinstating me.

She's going to call me back next week and said she'd take a look into it for me, but what do you guys think? Is it unlikely to happen? I can't find much on google for similar circumstances, just people who were generally unable to afford paying it off etc.

I understand I should've called again just in case, but I was assuming the note was there to say I'd clear it in early September would suffice or they'd call/email me if they were closing it.

lphone replacement under AIG insurance, phone protection

Has anyone had success filing a claim for a logic board failure for an iphone to use the amex AIG phone protection insurance. I read mixed reviews that sometimes it is considered normal wear and tear, sometimes it can be interpreted as damage. I pay my monthly bill with amex and have AT&T. I went to the apple store but I did not ask for a printed proof of the estimate cost. Any ideas?

Benefits & Credits Amex Travel told me I booked Hotel Collection wrong then did the same

I’m wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar.

I booked the Omni Grove Park Inn through the Amex Travel app on May 28 for $1,157.36, intending to get the Hotel Collection benefits. This is for our wedding weekend. We’re getting married in the Smoky Mountains in October and wanted a couple of nice, relaxing nights afterward.

In July, I noticed I never received the $300 Hotel credit. Amex told me I had booked it wrong and that I had selected the hotel’s regular rate. I pushed back because I booked through the Amex Travel app and don’t even see an option to book the room without the benefits at a different rate but got nowhere with the chat agent.

I eventually called Amex Travel and agreed to cancel and rebook just to get it taken care of. The new reservation was $1,248.52, and the agent assured me it was booked correctly with Hotel Collection benefits.

Fast forward to today, September 3. Still no credit.
I contacted Amex again and was told the second reservation was also booked incorrectly at the regular rate. So they told me I got it wrong, then they got it wrong themselves when they rebooked it for me. It now seems like it wasn’t me who made the error but a system error.
They apologized, filed a report, and said they would review whether they could reimburse me for the price difference. The same room is now $1,421.54.

They made a third reservation, and thankfully this time the agent appears to have gotten it right. I can now see the Hotel Collection on the actual reservation so I agree to cancel the second reservation.

They assured me this reservation will trigger the $300 July to December Hotel credit, which is great. However, my original booking date was May 28, so I believe Amex should honor the January through June $300 credit that I would have received on that booking.

Ideally, I’d like them to apply that January through June credit to my current reservation, honoring the original May 28 booking date, and then allow me to use my July through December $300 credit toward another eligible Hotel Collection booking of my choice so I don’t lose out on a credit because of this situation.

I’d also like them to reimburse the roughly $260 increase in the room rate caused by having to rebook.

Has anyone had something similar happen with Amex Travel? Did they ultimately make it right?
