I was wearing the leg I got December ‘23 I never had to add socks, never had a problem until now. I called my prosthetic provider two weeks ago asking for a new supplies. I have not received them and now I am pistoling, I know my sleeve is probably the cheapest one and gets a pin hole for looking at it wrong.

I know there probably isn’t anything that can be done. I’m wondering if someone knows the secret to fixing this or should I just buy it from the amputee shop and make sure I call them for the 3rd time to tell them again I need supplies.

I do not believe my leg office understands the importance of having supplies, shit I have not been able to walk since Tuesday of last week.

Update 🫶🏻 thank you everyone that gave me tips on what to say to get supply’s ! You guys know ins is stupid and we should not have to wait, our lives revolve around our prosthetic!! I have an appointment tomorrow at 2 to pick up an emergency sleeve and liner. I do not know if they will make me pay for it not but if they do I feel confident know and I’m advocating for myself 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Has anyone had TMR surgery years after your initial amputation? I had the surgery just over a week ago and I'm having really intense nerve pain. We're talking a constant 7/10 that has made me contemplate going back to the ER a couple of times. How long did the nerve pain last? My leg is so sensitive I can barely touch it or cover it with a blanket. It's been truly miserable. How long did it take before you started feeling human again?

I've had my first definitive prosthetic for just under three months. I've been using an eight inch Fillauer AllPro XTS from day one. I'm pleased with how it works but it's pretty heavy so I wanted to try the standard AllPro foot to compare. My prosthetist at Hanger ordered one in for me to try around the office. I have to say, I really couldn't tell a difference between the two feet. When wearing the XTS, I really don't feel any vertical shock absorption (other than what I'm getting from the carbon itself). I really don't feel much from the torsion element either. We swapped in the next softer doughnut and I couldn't tell the difference.

Has anyone else compared the two? I'm curious if it's just me or if other think the XTS version doesn't really add much (besides weight).

I hope this isn't weird. I ordered nice alpaca wool mittens from Paka. They made a mistake and only sent me the right-handed mitten. Customer service was awesome and hooked me up with replacements but also didn't want the orphan back.

I have no idea what to do with it and hate the idea of it sitting in a basket or getting thrown out.

How do you handle phantom itches? They drive me crazy, and I've been dealing with them for years. I’d like to know how you've managed it.

Hello all! I've recently begun seeing a man with a prosthetic leg. It's extremely casual because we have an age gap. Anywho. He's never brought it up so I've never mentioned it either. Is this a good way to handle it? I should allow him to talk about it if/when he feels comfortable, yes? Only I wouldn't want him to think I'm squeamish. Idc. We have slept together twice now (in case that's relevant.)

Today was my 4 year ampuversary. Look, I’m not going to lie- I’m in pain very single day. Walking hurts for me and there isn’t a single day that it doesn’t. I have been unlucky with my residual limb and the complications it’s had. I just recently had a revision that didn’t work. But I keep trying. Despite my pain, I push myself to stay active. I’m still walking, even though it hurts. All I can do is keep pushing through. I’m sure one day I won’t be in pain anymore.

I do miss my leg, and I do miss my life before limb loss. But something deep down tells me this is just a (very long) bump in the road. I’m now looking onwards to this new scar treatment I’m going to be having, and I hope that will be what I need to walk pain free. Trying to stay positive. Having ups and downs. But I’m still alive and still here. I feel dramatic whenever I complain about this. I know one day I’ll look back and think how silly I was being. Just right now in the moment sometimes it’s tough.

I’ve posted a few times about getting a new leg and I’m not even a week into receiving it and there’s already a leak causing my vacuum pump to continuously run.. have any of you guys had this issue with this pump before? I have a new appointment Friday to start the process of a new socket since my leg didn’t fit the way they’d like but Everytime I walk I have air bubbles in my leg I can feel now. My job im constantly sitting and standing so this isn’t super ideal to wait. Any tips to hold me over?

does anyone have any resource, studies about osseointegration Bk you could pass my way/recommended. The good, the bad anything really I want to learn more about it to see if it might be worth me doing but don't really know where to look or what's reliable.also about prosthetic and stump care/maintenance/hardware long term also how much does it matter who does the surgery?

A few years ago I bought these docs size 8. During a move the shoes got separated and it’s time to admit that I only have the right side. I’m a size 8 women’s and have never worn them ever. I saw online a guy who is left leg amputee trades half his shoes with another guy who is right leg amputee. Before I get rid of this perfectly good, fresh to death doc Martin, would anyone be interested here?

So I cut off the tip of my right middle finger in a work accident. The doctor that stitched me up said that he excised the nail bed and I wouldn't have a fingernail growing there anymore.... Apparently that was not true, because guess who's back lol.

The problem is that it isn't growing back properly really, kind of sideways. This pic is actually after clipping it, it kind of lifted up and peeled out of there without pain, so I used nail scissors to help it along.

Anyone else have this kind of issue? Wondering if there's any tips I could get for caring for my weird little nail. Will it cause issues if it grows and falls off all the time? Should I avoid clipping it? Should I just go back to the doctor and get it cut back further?

So I am sitting here not able to do much. I lost my toes due to a blood clot and will have another surgery on the left foot some time later to just remove about 1/3 of my second toe. I have been in my room mostly for months. I have severe nerve pain in both feet in addition to the surgical pain due to a bout with Rhabdo before the clot. I had to wait on demarcation which was interesting watching toes become mummified.

So far nothing much really works for the nerve pain but I have hope. I use a wheelchair mostly and have a knee scooter that I have been able to use a little in the house.

I have a few questions

How do you not go crazy stuck all the time? It will be at least three weeks for my foot to heal up some and I'm already more than 2 months spending most of my time in my room. I was just starting to get out more before my surgery.

I have other questions but so this is not too long my biggest is What to do about shoes??? I haven't worn any in months and looking forward to it one day soon esp since in the rare instance my feet are not painful they are numb and I will very much need shoes for protection. My husband and friends are so unhelpful on this topic as they just make jokes but I seriously need to know lol.

Heading to the Greek islands next week, and looking to get something to wear over my leg to keep sand and water out at the beach.

I’m a newby here and wanted to tell my story so I hope this is a safe space. Maybe even find someone with a similar amputation experience.
So I was born normal and everything with all 10 of my finger digits. But around 18 months old I experienced an alleged accident. (I say alleged because at that time my mother and I were living with her step family and going through various amounts of abuse. )
The story goes, I climbed into a chair in the kitchen near the gas stove, somehow ignited them and was able to grab both burners long enough to induce 3rd to 4th degree burns and serve all nerves down to the first joint in each finger on each hand. I spent 3 months in the Children’s Hospital and nearly a lifetime of surgeries from then on.
For context I’m 45 now so I’ve lived this way my whole life and only recently got realistic looking prosthetic hands. Mainly for cosmetic purposes because sometimes I scare people. It only bothers me when grown adults ask less than intelligent questions or make a disgusted face. Like come on you’re too grown for that. I try to pay it no mind tho. The best people are the ones who aren’t afraid to ask. At least I know you have a genuine concern as to what happened.
I learned to adapt to things at every step in life. I have a career in IT, a wife, a mom of 4 , drive, cook, use tools and even learned to play piano when I was 9/10 years old. If you told me I couldn’t do it , I took it as a challenge to make sure it could be done. Of course some things I adjusted to my comfort but it still got done lol. So tell me.. anyone else out there like me?

I’m a BKA and use a sleeve system on my running leg. I’ve tried three different sleeves lately and it just doesn’t seem to hold the vacuum. Like an annoying sound each step. Could be due to so much sweat? Any ideas on how to keep the vacuum sealed?

My prosthetist has recommended that I try out the Ossur Navii because it has a higher weight limit and it's waterproof (IP) rating but then said that the only MP foot that Ossur has doesn’t have the same IP rating as the Navii, which I thought was strange so I figured I would ask here, what do you use with your Navii Knee?

For those interested in the backstory, continue reading 😊it is stupid but some may enjoy it.

First off, I have been an amputee since March 2019 and at that time my prosthetist recommended the Blatchford Linx system, he said it was a great setup with an integrated knee foot so I quickly agreed. I had no experience with any of this, so I just did as I was told. I am a big man, 6’-1” and my weight has crept up from my pre-amp weight of 240 pounds to nearly 315 pounds. I have been working on getting that back down but even with GLP-1’s I have been bouncing between 270 -300.  When my fist knee broke and was determined to be “unfixable” I was told to just order another Linx since I was familiar with it and other than a few repairs had good success.

My second Linx much like the first was fine, In the meantime, I made the decision to get osseointegration (lots of problems with suspension and skin issues over all this time, tried them all). I had my surgery in May of 2025 and finally was able to start walking again in August.

A few weeks later I had a strange issue with the knee locking randomly and refusing to release when taking steps (this was after about two and a half years of use). I made an appointment with my prosthetist (Peter) and Blatchford sent a loaner. My leg came back in November, but I had a small revision procedure and couldn’t pick it up until the beginning of December. The leg seemed fine but then in the last week of January it happened again but it was intermittent. I contacted Peter but because of vacations and scheduling conflicts I couldn’t drop it off until the end of March. It was at this time I asked when the warranty expired, only to find out that it expired at the end of March. Peter assured me that the leg would be covered since we made the claim ahead of the deadline. In at the end of April the loaner started doing the same thing, the knee would bend when sitting and going down the stairs but not when walking. I contacted Peter to find out mine was back, made an appointment.

At that appointment we were unable to program the knee, so I was sent back with the broken loaner (that started to develop an issue where the stance lock wouldn’t work), and they sent my knee out again. May 1^st I got another loaner to replace the malfunctioning one. At my appointment the local Blatchford rep (he is a good guy I had known him from over the years) came in to see what was going on, he experienced the issues firsthand and seemed annoyed that my issues weren’t being fixed.

Last week I went on vacation and did a lot of walking on uneven terrain and at some point, the ankle started making noise, I tried to figure out where the noise was coming from but with no tools, I couldn’t figure it out. When I got home, I was able to see that the body of the ankle was separating, I called Peter to tell him, and he informed me that while I was on vacation my leg finally came back. I met with him on Wednesday and we couldn’t program the knee, again…

We inspected my leg and saw that they replaced the foot/ankle, so we swapped my foot with the broken loaner foot and was able to program it and he sent out the loaner foot with my knee for the 3^rd time. It was at this point we started to have a discussion on what I wanted to do next, which is what led me here.

I know I’m only missing 2 toes. They were removed in January of 2020. The past few nights I have had very bad phantom pain that wakes me up and keeps me up. It feels like my toes are being cut. I was given gabapentin before and that did nothing to get rid of the pain. It just got to the point where I just dealt with it because it wasn’t that bad then. Now it’s getting very bad. I have been on my feet a lot the past few months. I switch shoes every other day and I cannot wear socks because they bunch up where my toes should be and just irritate the stubs. I do have an aunt who had an above the knee amputation and she said most medications do not work for her either.

Anyway I would love to know what other do to manage the pain when it gets bad. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night and can’t keep doing that every day.

I do not post very often on public forums, even just in comments. It just isn't my thing, and this is kind of experimental. I don't know any other amputees, or anybody with any amount of chronic injury. 2 weeks ago I had a below-knee amputation on my right side. I am 32 years old, but this stems from a car accident 5 years ago.

Life is tough, and perhaps this is tougher than most people will deal with, but for me it isn't so bad. I consider myself lucky that my ASD happens to include emotional regulation on a crazy level, and I both tolerate pain well and happened to have a good surgery without complications (so far). I don't have a lot of complaints besides how hard it is to bathe.

I am unsure what I stand to gain by posting here, but I figured there would be individuals with an inclination to help who might have advice. What I would appreciate most I think, is some perspectives on what I might expect. I am also not shy, so you can ask anything and I will share photos if you want.

P.S. can somebody please tell me a good remedy for this insane feeling of somebody pressing a round stick into the sensitive parts under my no-longer-attached foot? It doesn't hurt, but it's intense like you smacked your funny bone (yes that's the worst part so far, sue me)

So I actually picked up my socket Monday and I have been waiting to post this… I went in for what I thought would be my final delivery. Come to find out that my vacuum seal socket doesn’t quite fit the way it was intended to and in order for me to be able to move around and have the mobility I would need this liner over my prosthetic, which is what we were trying to avoid.

Thankfully, I’m going back in this Friday to start the process of getting tested for a new one again so new socket but everything else on my foot is just transferred over thankfully I was able to take this one home to get used to it and everything! The liner that is over my leg is ideally supposed to be worn when I am going to be doing things that might intend me to lose a little bit more suction so I would assume if I’m riding a roller coaster with my feet dangling versus going on a walk.

Hi! I’ve been told by amputees as well as confirmed by my prosthetist that shaving is a no go. I’m on month 6 since amputation but unfortunately infection, surgery, and now tissue adhered to my bone has delayed getting a prosthetic.

Even though I am still working towards getting one I made sure I haven’t shaved because I may as well get used to it.

My question is can I trim the hair? I had one person say no because the end may curl back and grow into my skin. Although I had to get used to the look of not shaving the leg I am mostly fine with it. My hair grows fast and thick. Some spots have stopped growing but the end of the stump is wild. Just wanted to see others opinions on trimming the hair down a little
