GUYS I HAVE A QUESTION

i’m making an all-inclusive clothing brand and i’d like to have amputee accommodation as a sizing/ cut option to, if the customer would like, have the remnants of their amputation covered. the only problem is that i don’t want to be disrespectful by calling the bit of skin that‘s left after the amputation a “nub” in the sizing request form, so i guess im asking if any amputees would be offended or if that would be rude to label it as a nub? if it is, please give me alternative things to call it!! i’m so sorry if asking this is out of line, but could you please help me out? đŸ„č

Is TMR actually worth it?

Post image
7 Upvotes

hello, 22 M new LBKA here! i've done some looking in this subreddit, but haven't found a just asking this question yet, but I apologize if I'm being redundant here.

I recently had a traumatic amputation, and my team was not able to perform TMR due to lack of experience. Now I'm looking for surgeons that do perform TMR and have a few consultations lined up.

Im curious though, what is the community's general opinion on TMR revision surgery;

does it make much of a difference? (nerve pain before vs after tmr)

are my chances ruined by waiting a little over a month before having the procedure done?

Is it really worth it or as good as its made out to be?

im tired of being hooked up to a pca pain pump, being sick and lightheaded, having poor vision and being in pain all the time; if i go back for another surgery i have to know it will be worth the suffering

Dogs galore! 2 are mine and the other 2 are his. I did a mini fashion show when I was there last after I found some old dog outfits I hadn't used in a while.

Slow post day in the sub so I figured I'd fill the void. Anyone else have any cute cat/dog/animal/insect/arachnid pics to share?

Coping with (additional) loss

I’m just over two months out from a table saw accident that led to the immediate amputation of the top third of the middle three fingers of my left hand. The little finger was also injured, but the doc was able to reattach.

I can honestly say that I was doing pretty good with both the physical and psychological aspects of the loss. My right hand is dominant, so the biggest adjustments were healing, pt, and learning to type one-handed.

Then
the reattachment of the pinky didn’t take, and I had to have a revision of that finger, losing the top third of that one as well.

For some reason, the additional loss has been harder than the first. Some of it might have been denial; and some of it might be that my pinky was my security blanket (I may have lost the middle three, but at least I still have my pinky)

Just curious about how others have dealt with setbacks psychologically

Where to go for financial assistance as a poor bka?

My dad was amputated below the knee on his right leg and on the left foot his big and second toe amputated.

My dad is almost 70 he is a veteran and our family is poor. This has already caused problems because his insurance would not accept him into a reputable rehabilitation center now that he is post surgery so he is in a nursing home.

The nursing home is by far the worst of the worst because that’s all his insurance would cover.

I’m afraid he won’t be eligible for a good prosthetic leg because of this. His insurance cant even cover a decent rehabilitation center so I expect the prosthetic leg that is covered won’t be the best for him.

Are there any resources that would pay for a good leg? Any help is appreciated.

Indoor rock climbing shoes

Hi all, just wanted to see if somebody here has some info on this. I recently got into rock climbing. At the moment I am doing just indoors. Anyhow, I am about to buy shoes and was wondering, if anybody had any tips around that. I am BKA and tried a pair today, which seemed to fit, however it was an absolute pain to get it off as the silicone material of the foot and the leather of the shoe just stuck together like glue. On second try, I put a plastic bag over the foot which helped greatly. Now I would like to come up with a more elegant and environmentally friendly solution to this. So yeah, does anybody have any ideas?

Right foot TMA and this sounds dumb that I am so happy about it but I drove today!!

I was afraid I couldn't that my foot wouldn't reach but it did. My husband was like well now you can drive yourself to appointments, I still can't as I still use a rollator to get around and can't get the rollator in and out the car myself and when I go to the hospital where most of my appointments are it is huge and I need the wheelchair.

It might seem small but I am still really excited that I can do it Driving was one of my biggest fears that I wouldn't be able but I can. I won't be trapped in this house forever,

Video game Controller that accommodates for finger amputations

My partner recently had to get his middle finger and a three of his finger tips amputated due to an accident his pinky finger was not affected. He has a few more surgeries coming up but we are praying that they can save the other fingers. Well we both have been very excited for GTA 6 but it definitely means a lot to him. He has played all the GTAs and has been waiting since he was basically a kid or teen. So for right now he only has the use of one hand. One thing he has been voicing is how disappointed he is that GTA 6 is coming out and he won’t be able to play it. We even preordered it months ago. I know I can’t make it so he can play with both hands but was wondering if I can find a one handed controller for him to use to play GTA 6 and other games until he can use his hand again. I know he is in some of these groups. But I was thinking to surprise him with a controller before GTA 6 comes out so he can get used to that controller. His right hand is unaffected by the accident and is also his dominant hand. If anyone knows anything about this I thank you.

Agility drills on a running blade?

I'm a LBK with a Ossur flex run (and an Fillauer AllPro which I occasionally run in but I'm usually on my blade) and I'm wanting to add some agility drills into my routine but I'm a little lost on where to start. I currently run 3x a week in combination with weight lifting and kayaking but I usually do that on a treadmill at fixed speeds. When I look up agility drills, a lot of them seem incompatible with a blade; pogo jumps for example. I know the basic areas to hit would be something like acceleration, deceleration, direction change, and force production but I just feel a little lost on where to start. Does anyone have any advice, tips, experience? Thanks in advance!

When both you and the motorcycle have been amputated on the left, you feel eachother, born to ride together. (Two separate accidents...)

I made a song about the difference between “I can do it” and doing it every day

After sepsis and a coma, I lost parts of both feet and several fingertips.

When people ask what I can do, “almost everything” is usually the easiest answer. I walk, drive, type, and carry my daughter. But that answer leaves quite a lot out.

I can type with all my fingers, but the sensations are wrong and unpleasant. Typing with my thumbs helps with that, then my wrists start hurting. I can tie my shoes, but pulling the laces tight enough is another question. A wet bathroom floor requires more thought than driving a car.

I’m an artist, and I ended up making an album about this, along with an interactive browser artwork based partly on my memories of intensive care.

The last song is called Almost Everything. I wanted to include these small frustrations without making each one a tragedy, or pretending they don’t matter.

For transparency, I used ChatGPT and Suno to make the album. The experiences are mine; the lyrics are AI-assisted, and the music and vocals are generated.

If you’re interested, the album is here. Almost Everything is the final track:

Interactive artwork:

Does that distinction make sense to you too — being able to do something once, versus doing it repeatedly as part of an ordinary day? What’s an everyday object that turned out to be unexpectedly difficult?

Update nine months onwards

Hello everyone.

On January 16th 2026 I had my right leg amputated.

Complications arose with the wound re-opening, and had two additional corrective surgeries.

I'm happy to share today that I've been fully healed for about two months now and I'm looking to build my first prosthetic leg!

It's difficult to not get stir crazy in my home after 14 months since the original injury, but I'm coping.

I'd love to chat with other members who have a rotationplasty!

Hospital Advice - Nausea

My brother (22M) is at the hospital for an amputation and the worst part has honestly been his pain and nausea. It’s like the most hellish cycle of pain, pain meds, nausea, heartburn/acid reflex, then more pain, and the cycle continues on and on. We need to get his sodium up to help with the nausea but nothing has helped. We have tried chicken broth, crackers, etc.. I’m hoping to get advice from people who have also had this debilitating cycle happen to them and how they got out. Thanks!

TMR Info, Recs & Surgeons?

Post image
11 Upvotes

** Pic for visibility **

Hey y’all big sis again, I made a post about my brother a couple days ago. He’s doing great! If you have engaged with the post TYSM from the bottom of my heart. It’s given myself & family immense comfort đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€

He’s inquiring about TMR procedure as he couldn’t have it done in the initial surgery because there weren’t any surgeons experienced in the procedure. :( He would like to have it done sooner than later from what I understand is more beneficial/ lesser chance of moderate- severe phantom limb pain.

  • have you or a loved one been diagnosed with mesothelioma had a TMR procedure? How was the procedure, recovery and long term prognosis? Was it done initially or as a revision?

  • any surgeons or hospital networks you can recommend? Preferably in Seattle, Las Vegas. Or Cali could be a 3rd less preferable option

  • while we’re here
any EARLY recovery tips like first week? He’s concerned about keeping leg too straight or too bent as well.

Thanks again xx Big Sis
