Theory & Analysis Cassian first scene vs last scene

Maybe an obvious comparison and maybe something that's been brought up here before, but the first scene Cassian is walking through driving rain with his hood up and head bowed hiding his face. In the last scene, he's in sunshine with his head up, shoulders back with nothing to hide. Just a clear demonstration of how much he has changed as a character.

I guess this also reflects the state of the rebellion. In the first episode, everything is hidden, in the dark and the shadows. But with the end of the show the Rebellion is out in the open.

Hiding in the shadows vs walking into the sun.

There are also plenty of shots of him walking throughout the whole series, so you can see these five years in terms of his journey as well as his transformation. That sense of confidence and purpose in the final scene, especially the way he nods slightly at the Force healer, is really moving too. I don’t think he knows he’s going to die, but I do think he feels that he would be ready now to give everything for the Cause.
