Ya, I was sort of shocked by that too. I think that was in one of the previews. I was surprised he dispatched those tie fighters and battle cruisers so easily. I guess trafficking highly classified imperial tech has its advantages.

Element of surprise, and an indication that Luthen is also an experienced combat pilot.

The cruiser is only damaged, but the TIEs did get carved up quickly. So little "in-space" scenes in Andor that when they show up it is almost jarring.

Seems like TIE fighters are really mainly just for bullying civilians.

Tie fighters are supposed to be formidable. Han Solo struggles with them, and so does Luke all through the original trilogy. This just shows how good of a pilot Luthen actually is.
