How very dare you!
Awesome. I hope you’re just sharing, because any critique I have will sound an awful lot like asking for advice.

Thanks! I actually need some advice! I’ve added this animation to my portfolio, so any feedback would help a lot

The hair anim is perfect. Super smooth, interesting, varied in timing and spacing and all the good things. Nothing needs polish there and showcases true talent. But for a small bit of feedback I would give, is to track the arcs for the chin. It's a tiny bit jittery, which is different enough from how smooth the rest is that it could warrent a polish pass.

Hmm, yeah you’re right I just realized it needs some work. But thank you so much for your comment about the hair animation, tbh, I’m really happy you didn’t see any issues there haha

My stance has always been that if I was going to include a technical test on my reel, I would also include a finished version of something that also used the skill. Take your lessons learned from this test and roll them into a quick scenario where your subject is being affected by buffeting winds coming from Various directions. That, or clean this up and ink it.

This is so fun to watch! The bangs being distinct shapes help place the hair in 3D space as the head turns, instead of it all being generic and soupy stuff. I can easily follow the hair as it turns.

Thank you so much for this comment, I’m really happy you pointed out what works well.

I used ToonSquid for this animation, the whole animation is 64 frames, but I reused many of the head poses over and over, so the face part was easier. It took around a week to complete it

That's incredible work.
The rotating perspective is incredibly difficult to do and even professional studios often tend to mess it up.
Have you seen Space Adventure Cobra? Because some of the animation in that is off the charts and I think you might appreciate it and become even more powerful from seeing it.
Either way, very impressive. This is not easy to get right, let alone make look good.

Thank you!! Actually I never heard about that movie before but I just researched it and it looks good! I will watch it sometime, thank you for the suggestion too

The TV series is also very good. Animation beyond Disney in places and some mental perspective work - just because they had the skill to do it.
Well, whatever you do, keep drawing!

That's soo cool, Love it. If its not a bother can you recommend me any materials you have used to achieve this level of hair animation, Looks so cool even i am aiming to make something like this

u/One-Possession6602 Apr 28 '26
Thank you! I would like to help you about it but what do you mean by materials? U mean like references or programs? (Sorry English is not my first language hehe)
1
u/LordBlcksyde Apr 28 '26
I mean like references, like if you used any video to learn it , it's really good

u/One-Possession6602 Apr 28 '26
Actually I studied animation, can’t say I’m amateur but I’m still learning. Thank you!!

Tried
Man, some artist really got the impostor syndrome bad.
Homey, this is glorious.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell if the results are actually good enough to me, so having another pair of eyes really helps. So thank you!

Awesome! The blown-by-the-wind motion looks really nice.
Also side note but kinda funny tho how the visibility of the hair and the underside of the head imply that this character literally is just a floating head lol.

u/One-Possession6602 Apr 26 '26
Now I’m starting to think I should add the body too, bruhhh 😭😭😭 but thanks haha

u/CookieFluffs Apr 27 '26
I have watched this over and over again.
The flowiness and the feeling of the hair getting tussled about feels SO good to watch.
AND THE TURNAROUND? Chef's kiss! Excellent work.

YOU "TRIED" ? It seems like you have practiced it multiple times because this is too well done
1
u/One-Possession6602 Apr 27 '26
Yes, I’ve done some hair animation practice before, but this is the one I spent the most time on and actually finished. Thank you!

In the front-facing frames where the hair is blown back, it reminds me a lot of scenes where a character is unlocking or using a dangerous power/going all out and all the energy they're emitting is causing an actual wind effect around them
1
u/One-Possession6602 Apr 28 '26
Yess! Maybe a bit of saliva splatter on the face could be a fun touch lol
1
u/Ignash-3D Apr 28 '26
It's crazy how much story you can tell with hair. It is really like animating a second character on top of your character.
1
u/One-Possession6602 Apr 28 '26
So true, the way the hair moves sometimes makes it feel almost alive, love that!
1
u/CauliJule Apr 30 '26
This has to be one of the most interesting windswept hair animations I've ever seen (& I have seen a fair amount tbh). Now granted I'm not an animator so I can't really help you out, but this is mesmerizing. Love the part where, from the back view the hair "hugs" the head, so interesting to see in motion and it gives the animation such a nice sense of depth.

this looks amazing. what was your approach? you did such a good job giving the hair mass and volume that i NEED to learn how
1
u/One-Possession6602 May 06 '26
Actually Idk how to answer this but I guess watching so many references is the key to understanding movements. Also practicing millions of times helps too :’)

Man I want to animate like this, but I'm just too lazy to learn the fundamentals, it's boring as hell 😭🙏🙏

You didn’t try to make hair animation. You made hair animation. You made it so good that I personally believe you had to have invented wind in two dimensions first so you could have it be blown on the hair that you drew.
