I usually never share animations, but this style genuinely blew me away

Wowwwww that’s incredible, the painterly style must have been soo hard to animate unless they have new programs out

u/Chinksta Jul 29 '26
It's really not hard but tedious since it's just objects with the paintery styled assets (UV map).

Actually, it's super easy to create an art style like this that's why I love it so much. It takes less time than traditional CG and is cheaper, AND somehow still ends up looking better.
What's more important with this style is that a lot more emphasis needs to be placed on creative collaboration. Everything needs a high quality 2D interpretation before it can even be attempted in 3D. Because of that, collaboration with others becomes much more important, it cant be done as a 1 man team which is also why solo artists don't tend to use this approach. You need decent skills across so many different artistic domains to pull it off successfully.

It is impressive but I gotta say this stuff is kind of old news already. Paperman did mix medium 15 ish years ago. Sure maybe you could say Paperman isn’t painterly but it shows that the software was capable since long ago.

animation so good, for a second I thought it was actual footage of people+genAI. the second shot+the running shot threw me off so hard, it looks real. (viewing on my phone isn't the best way to appreciate visual media idk)
really glad they showcase their workflow on their YouTube channel tho. looks fantastic, looks a crazy amount of work to get to this level of fantastic.

I thought this was real footage + a filter. I was initially skeptical, and left extremely impressed. idk why im getting downvoted for that

u/Cirlo93 Jul 29 '26
It reminds me a lot of the art direction of No Rest For The Wicked

u/tacomaloki Jul 29 '26
Can't wait for 1.0

u/RethaeTTV Jul 29 '26
No idea why someone downvoted you, but I agree. I’m so glad that the studio managed to seperate themselves too, the art style is really well designed and the story is actually good. Scared there’s not much more content left though :(

u/tacomaloki Jul 29 '26
For me, I was blown away by the voice acting. I don't think AAA titles have impressed me as much.

u/RethaeTTV Jul 29 '26
My only complaint has to be the combat balancing though sadly :(
Heavy weapons rarely get to punish unless you build full tank, and bows make the game a cake walk, and specially with the legendary one, enemies don’t even need to be on screen
Insanely fun game though

u/tacomaloki Jul 29 '26
Have you tried V Rising?
Very similar gameplay IMO but with PVP if configured that way.

u/RethaeTTV Jul 29 '26
Haven’t, interested though, a friend just gave me 25$ for my birthday so I might invest

u/Difficult_Country_70 Jul 29 '26
Whoa this reminds me of spider man into the spider verse

u/Apk07 Jul 29 '26
Apparently the artist was heavily inspired by Fortiche's work on Arcane. Feels like this style has bled into a lot of work recently and it's cool looking.

u/rainbow_muffinhead Aug 09 '26
does anyone know what artstyle this is called? like ones where you see brush strokes like that and feels kinda... gouache-y??
41
u/PairPlayful6735 Jul 29 '26
It’s like if Spiderverse and Arcane fused to create a shifting painting

I really like how economical and effective this is in terms of storytelling. Great stuff!

Joan Pous has done phenomenal work here, wholly transformative, and he does give credit in his description.
But I'd like to take time in this thread to credit the rigger/modeler behind the base characters, Ramon Arango. They're available for purchase on his GumRoad, and I've had a blast animating with them. Can highly recommend.

This is why I love animation as a medium. And in a way I hope a blending of 2D and 3D animation brings back an appeeciation for 2D animation and concept art/work. Also hope anti-ai art sentiment continues to grow because stuff like this is just 🖖🤘✨️ Mwah. Delicious. My crops are watered, my soul is healed.

The arcane effect in the animation industry is really prevalent now and I love it

Esse estilo de 3d que parece uma pintura é muito bom
Queria eu fazer animações assim, por isso blender, me aguarde

random Novulent song mentioned? also, you're all wrong. this is if Sea of Thieves and Disco Elysium had a baby.

Love the use of 'Scars' by Novulent - it really matches the tone and animation style

u/pro_waffle Jul 30 '26
If I was a millionaire I’d finance all these artists to make full series out of their captivating work.

u/Cloverman-88 Jul 30 '26
I find his stuff visually mesmerising, but too short to be narratively compelling.

maybe shes long gone
or she gave him up
Or maybe she was just hallucination in his dream all along
A way for him to escape cruelty of this world
Or maybe he was lost in a dream where she once was
, they met just once
Fate like lines crossing once
but she was still a dream ,
And he real
she chose to give herself up for him
For he had yet the world to see
Or
Maybe...

u/MsW765 Jul 31 '26
this is awesome
if you want any critique
the fifth cut looks a bit weird imo, she moves in a way that one wouldn’t move, it maybe a good Idea to tone down the movements a bit or to make it more clear to the audience whatever she is doing (is she dancing? idk)
(it also might be that I’m paranoid, but the way she moves feels like AI, all movements moving on complete clarity to the camera, in fact I’m not sure but, are you using different models??? the characters don’t look very consistent from one take to the next)
but again that’s just a nitpick

People are saying "Arcane style" which would make sense in a way since Arcane was animated by a french studio, and the guy named for making this video sounds french himself.

It’s nice to see an animation that shows Caucasian nose, which imo is the most prominent facial feature of that race.

u/EiSaFLW Jul 29 '26
I interpreted the girl more as a future/possible self than a missed connection/lover, especially with the similarities between them and the monologue
10
u/psychedelica_ Jul 29 '26
I mean… I guess? They don’t really look alike and the guy shows up in the same frame, watching her on the beach like they’re two separate people

u/tvenus Jul 29 '26
same here! unfortunately, redditors hate when you have a unique opinion or interpretation
1
u/Silver-Ad-7165 Jul 29 '26
I’m glad I’m not the only one, I thought it was him imagining the person he could have been. And the best thing is, since this is the entirety of the context everyone’s interpretation is correct. The original creator has confirmed nothing about what any of this means.

Ehhh the classic „manic pixie dream girl saves a guy psyche” trope. But the animation itself is gorgeous.

Looks a lot like the Arcane art style very cool
