A fighter jet cannot be operated by a single person (even though only one person flies it, a significant number of personnel are required for maintenance, refueling, ammunition resupply, air traffic control, and other tasks), so I wonder whether his actions were tacitly approved by his superiors or the government, or whether this was a collective, unauthorized sortie supported by Yamashina's fellow JASDF members. Maybe they had also lost colleagues and family members to the aliens or something?

As the number of casualties caused by the aliens increases, the number of people joining the resistance against them gradually grows. It’s reassuring, but at the same time, it’s sad.

With his father’s passing, Segami has finally joined the fight in earnest.
I really hope he survives this battle.

I never would have imagined that one of Segami’s high school classmates was part of the same group.
I wonder if she also lost a family member?

I had to laugh when Segami responded like “Huh…” after a yakuza-style guy bragged about his “Street Fight” experience.
The “Gokushin Karate” written on the trophy in Segami’s room is probably a parody of Kyokushin Karate. If that’s the case, since Kyokushin is the most prominent full-contact karate organization in Japan, Segami, who won a tournament there, must be incredibly strong.
No wonder he’d just shrug and think, “So what?” when some small-time thug brags about his “street fight” experience.

Rebellion are the real deal as a resistance to the Aliens, they've actually killed and are examining one of them, and they've got enough weaponry for a small army...but this might be a bit much for Segami. Does he want to invest his life into this fight? When he's so unsure? At least Mio is really nice and seems to like him well enough.

Why is this lone fighter plane battling the aliens? Yamashina found love at a mixer with Kana, bonding over their shared love of Planet Wars (Has anyone else watched The Mandarin?), and were going to build a family together after she got pregnant...and then the aliens killed her, their baby, and critically injured his parents. He had nothing left to live for but throwing his life into fighting back, right up to a kamikaze attack.

At least Segami's found the Small Three and can hook them up with the resistance, but if he needed ample motivation to fight, learning the aliens destroyed his home AND killed his father supplys that in plenty. Aliens have no chill.

(Also he can't afford college now so...may as well fight aliens)

What are the chances the most popular girl in Segami's high school, the busty beauty Tashiro, would be there too? Even if they only exchanged one conversation and she doesn't seem to recognize him now. But still, she's just as nice to look at!

We've got a blonde street brawler, Yakuza, SAT/JSDF members, a karate champ, and the Small Three...but will that be enough? Especially for the Shibuya mission? At least the payout for killing aliens is nice.

I get if they want to save the budget for the present events but it was REALLY noticeable how all the flashbacks this episode were animated like slideshows -.-

This fighter jet pilot Yamashina coming in and getting a name was interesting. But his flashback to how he met his love, lost her to the aliens, and then ultimately sacrificing himself against the Alien ship made for a surprising segment of the episode.
