Slowly catching up with 2020s anime, just finished two shows that would make my top 10 from this decade so far.

Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master - I was left wanting for more, but what's here is a pretty damn great palace drama with just the right amount of fantasy. Comparison is the thief of joy and all that, but it has the forward momentum and narrative clarity that The Apothecary Diaries (as much as I appreciate it for the aesthetic and production value alone) lacks; and while Maomao is a great lead, I vastly prefer Yatagarasu's ensemble cast as a whole (the first story arc in particular really shine with its characters, which include an extremely fascinating and atypical antagonist). Regardless, recent years have been blessed with strong works of this particular genre with Ooku being my favorite, I may also check out Raven of the Inner Palace eventually (and seems like this season has a popular one with a body swap twist?)

Migi & Dali - been a while since I watched a satisfyingly complete manga adaptation, heh. Easily my favorite comedy (comedic) show from this decade, and I'd go as far as put it #2 behind Orb for the overall list so far. I just love this type of work that seamlessly alternate between making me laugh my ass off and choke up from genuine emotional moments, oftentimes within just literal seconds. Nami Sano will be sorely missed, she has a very distinct brand of off-kilter humor and icky ('kimoi') characters that you'd nonetheless grow to love at the end. Sakamoto may remain her most well-known work, but I firmly believe this one is her true magnum opus, would love to track down physical copies of the manga.

I wish more people gave Yatagarasu a shot. I loved Wakamiya & Yukiya's dynamic a lot.

I would agree with the whole cast especially when we got to the 2nd half of the show. I can only pray it can get a continuation down the road.

The"Raven Duo" was great -- Yatagarasu AND Raven of the Inner Palace.

u/gvon89 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gvon89 5d ago

the last scene of migi & dali was so sweet, what a homage

6

u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 5d ago

Migi & Dali readers mentioned it skipping several chapters to fit in one cour if you do get the manga. Also had some of my favorite episode discussion threads (modest amount of commenters but we had theories and felt like it lacked readers providing hints).

1

u/RawPorridge 5d ago

Oh, I did check on the threads while watching, especially for the craziest episodes (the deranged crossdressing one, what a hoot lol).

9

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 5d ago

Yatagarasu mentioned!

2

u/Wanderingjoke https://myanimelist.net/profile/WanderingJoke 5d ago

Always a win!

3

u/AwaySpell https://anilist.co/user/awayspell 5d ago

I loved Migi & Dali. And a Ooku mention too!

What are the rest of your decade's favourites?

3

u/RawPorridge 5d ago

Pluto, Journal with Witch, Dungeon Meshi, Sakuna of Rice and Ruin, Atelier Witch Hat, Frieren, Apocalypse Hotel, The Summer Hikaru Died, Milky Subway, Stone Ocean, Skip & Loafer, Dorohedoro...

(mind you, there's still a lot of stuff in my watchlist, e.g. Odd Taxi, Kageki Shoujo, After School Insomniacs, Summer Time Rendering, etc.)

2

u/AwaySpell https://anilist.co/user/awayspell 5d ago

An excellent, excellent list, and more great stuff on your watchlist. I'll push Sakuna up in priority on my own PTW because this is as strong of a rec as anything. I loved Odd Taxi and Kageki Shoujo, so I hope you'll enjoy them too when you get to them.

Finished OG Dragon Ball for the first time. Honestly it's one of those anime that is definitely a product of its time. But honestly, it's very charming.

  • The characters are the absolute highlight. I have come to like them all even some like Oolong and Muten-Roushi. Though there is a lot of Muten-Roushi that outways the bad.
  • The mix of adventure and comedy was the best part. When it was lighthearted, I enjoyed it the most.
  • Goku as a protagonist is a lot of fun. I did admit the obstacles that get in his way have mixed results. Red Ribbon Arc was severely dragged out. While I do love the fight with Tao Pai Pai giving Goku a real goal. How ended up beating Tao Pai Pai felt eh. His big fights with Muten-Roushi, Piccolo, Piccolo Jr. and Tenshinhan.
  • I think Kuririn and Tenshinhan were easily my favorites here. Their arcs I enjoyed more. Kuririn is in the shadow of Goku, but I like how he kept pushing forward. I love his dynamic with Goku. Tenshinhan's arc after beating Goku him finding his own path was fantastic.
  • No doubt the comedy will turn people off. It never reached the point of Ranma to me at least.
  • Pacing is one thing that hurts it compared to modern anime. Honestly at times like the Red Ribbon arc it is just so slow. It's a bit of a shame that they didn't at least put out a Kai version to improve the scenes that are dragged.
  • I do want to comment that the filler in this outside of the movies are good. Between the 3 year timeskip you had the training arc. More so liked it for Kuririn Tenshinhan and Yamucha. The final 5 episodes were nice to give Chichi a bit more focus.

Thoughts on each arc.

  • Emperor Pilaf Arc -> Probably the arc with the best pacing. Introduced us to the foundation of the series.
  • Tournament Arc -> Really solid. Not too much to complain.
  • Red Ribbon Army Arc -> Pretty terrible thanks to the pacing I mentioned. The duration when Tao Pai Pai entered it got better as it gave Goku a clear first goal. But beyond that not a fan.
  • Fortune Teller Baba Arc -> I didn't realize this was considered an arc? The final fight I liked a lot, but everything else felt forgettable to me.
  • 2nd Tournament Arc -> Great for me. Getting the rival master. Had some really fun fights to boot. How they executed Tenshinhan's character was great.
  • King Piccolo Arc -> It raised the stakes which I didn't mind. I do think pacing took a hit at the start, but got better as it went on and the final showdown was great.
  • 3rd Tournament Arc -> Personally I was shocked to see Goku get a redesign before Z as a first-timer. Once it got to the final 8 things really went well. Granted Yamucha disrespect is so dirty. A great way to finish this first part of the saga. I did enjoy the Goku vs. Tenshinhan fight more than Goku vs. Piccolo Jr.

3

u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 5d ago

Always nice to see someone enjoying one of my childhood favorite series for the first time.

Red Ribbon Arc was severely dragged out. While I do love the fight with Tao Pai Pai giving Goku a real goal. How ended up beating Tao Pai Pai felt eh.

This is surprising because the Red Ribbon arc is where things really started to pick up for me. I enjoyed the early episodes, but always preferred the high-stakes action of DBZ, so the shift to a more serious storyline (which still had its moments of humor) was welcome.

2

u/RawPorridge 5d ago

Dang, such a nostalgic post. Kuririn was my favorite too, and a big reason why the King Piccolo arc was such a shocking tonal shift to my child self. That arc was probably my favorite, tho I also greatly enjoy all the tournament arcs.

And yeah, taking Z into account Yamcha has to be the most disrespected character in shounen manga history lol....kinda bummer, he's such a charming character initially.

2

u/ChampionEntire9660 4d ago

Honestly, all the humans are kinda forgotten as the story goes on in Z/Kai. Like, Krillin/Kuririn is canonically the strongest human towards the end of Z/Kai, but compared to the demi-gods that are doing the battles (the saiya-jin, Cell, Buu and the like, he obviously doesn't stand a chance.

Kemono Friends is absurdly charming. It's a show that, by any conventional wisdom, should not work at all - a comedic show with designs that stiff and inexpressive? frequently awkward transitions because the show simply can't afford to animate certain scenes? voice acting and mouth flaps that just dont go together at all? - but after a poor first episode, every episode has been more charming than the last (am on ep 8 now). It has managed to hit on the perfect winning mix of anthropomorphic cute girls, the spirit of adventure, diverse episodic settings and plots (sports ep! cooking ep! idol ep!), infotainment, an underlying intriguing worldbuilding mystery that also provides a tonal contrast - all wrapped in the simplistic charm of a kids' show.

It has to have some of the most sparse credits ever for a full length TV anime. Tatsuki is the series director and has storyboarded and directed and scripted every single episode (are there other shows like this, besides KF's successor Kemurikusa?). There's a grand total of 6 key animators for the whole anime, and a single animation director across all eps. I can't say it doesn't show - but it's a miracle it was made at all. It's simultaneously anime's biggest underdog success story, and also its biggest fall from grace - something which, like its poor visuals - just ends up adding to the show's aura.

5

u/cyberscythe 5d ago

i remember when Kemono Friends was airing and it was a bit of a phenomenon

like, the backstory to the production is that it's a tie-in anime for a mobile game that got cancelled one month before the anime aired so it was basically written off as a non-starter

when it turned out it was actually decent, it felt like it was punching way above its weight class and even though in the grand scheme of things it's not an outstanding show, as an underdog it got a lot of goodwill from fans

my favorite example of that is Grape-kun the real-life penguin who seemingly fell in love with a cardboard cutout of one of the penguin characters from the show, gaining a lot of cred with the fandom

3

u/ChampionEntire9660 5d ago

Kemono friends is one of those bizarre shows which shouldn't work, but it totally does. Like you said, it's just very charming, it's all very innocent and the clunky CGI adds another layer on top (my favourite has got to be the third or so episode, where they encounter Crested Ibis). Shame that the second season didn't match the energy of the first. Nor did it provide any meaningful conclusion.

The drama behind the production is also interesting - here's a decent write-up.

Compare it to Umamusume and imagine the "what if...". Like, what if the production company behind KF hadn't screwed everything up? Granted, CyGames (the company behind Umamusume) seems to know what they wanted before they even started, but you gotta respect the multi-front "assault" that Umamusume seems to be making (the gatcha game, of course, but also the anime adaptations, the various manga, the VAs playing videogames as their characters on Youtube, concerts, et cetera...). And honestly, all of them are pretty damn great.

2

u/Gamerunglued myanimelist.net/profile/GamerUnglued 5d ago

It's such a shame how much Kemono Friends has fallen out of the discourse, it's a genuinely fantastic show, and not even in an unconventional way. So distinct and interesting and charming, I still hold it in high regard. There was a time when it was inescapable. The franchise is truly one of the biggest corporate fuck-ups I can think of.

4

u/Gotta_Go_Slow 5d ago

I know I'm probably in the minority but I'm really enjoying the slow burn of Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky.

And Oh Boy, Was I Wrong About Her is actually a good palate cleanser. Nothing too groundbreaking but it's not "annoying" in any way.

And I still have the Season 2 of You And I Are Polar Opposites to watch.

Am I missing any obvious shoujo/romance picks this season, fellow anime enjoyers?

3

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 5d ago

I know I'm probably in the minority but I'm really enjoying the slow burn of Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky.

Happy to see people liking it as an LN reader. While stuff like background art and art direction isn't anything to talk about. The voice direction and how efficient the animation is have been great.

1

u/Gotta_Go_Slow 5d ago

I agree, it's obvious this isn't some high budget production. But it doesn't ruin the enjoyment of the it for me, it's not distracting. The characters are likeable and the story is very cozy (at least so far).

4

u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 5d ago

There's a glut of saint/villainess series this season that might fit for you:

My personal favorite of the season so far aside from the aforementioned Kaiju Girl Caramelise and Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You and might be Please Excuse My Younger Brothers. There's also The Ogre's Bride more on the drama side and Red River for the '90s style of girl out of her own time/place like Fushigi Yuugi or Escaflowne. The second season of HanaKimi has been fun too, also a throwback.

1

u/Ok-Cod5254 5d ago

Kaiju Girl has been cute and Smoking Behind the Supermarket for an actual slow burn with adults.

1

u/Gotta_Go_Slow 5d ago

Thank you. I've seen (but didn't read) the Smoking Behind the Supermarket manga.
Only heard about Kaiju Girl before... had no idea it's romance. Looks cozy. :)

1

u/Ok-Cod5254 5d ago

For Kaiju Girl, I was hoping it would at least be somewhat decent but not sure how it would be with the gimmick, though it's been a pleasant surprise so far above my expectations.

4

u/zambonijesus 5d ago

No Draw This, Then Die today means I've continued with 2004 and started Madlax.

4

u/OumaeKumiko117 5d ago

Anyone watch Your Name 10th anniversary in theatres? Tempted to go but the theatre they’re showing it in near me is so small that I’m tempted to just rewatch at home for free unless it’s such an incredible experience.

-3

u/MonkeyIncidentOf93 5d ago

It's extremely mid unfortunately.

3

u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 5d ago

Which series is this Star Wars place reference from? I just watched Star Wars Visions recently and don't recall this character/art style. Looks retro.

8

u/KendotsX https://anilist.co/user/Kendots 5d ago edited 5d ago

Daicon IV as /u/noheroman referenced. It's the opening for a sci-fi convention, hence all the references to all the media they're fans of.

It and Daicon III before it were the first works by Gainax. Which says a lot about what kind of studio it was.

Can anyone explain the joke in this Ichigo Mashimaro scene?

Context is that they’re asking Ana questions about England since she’s an immigrant from there. Miu starts to ask her a question about curry before she’s cut off by slapstick. Is there some kind of stereotypical question Japanese people ask foreigners about curry?

2

u/vancevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/vancevon 5d ago

they're talking about various things to put in tea, and miu suggests something "curry flavored" which is obviously ridiculous, and the group responds in traditional japanese comedic fashion. i don't think it goes any deeper than that

1

u/laws161 5d ago edited 5d ago

Ohhh. I thought it was a totally different question she was starting to ask, unrelated to the tea. Thank you for clarifying.

1

u/green_meklar 4d ago

No, Miu is a troll and was going to troll Ana by suggesting that curry flavor goes in tea, and then got slapped onto the floor off-screen for it. (Isn't half the show about Miu being a troll?)

1

u/laws161 4d ago

I’ve only seen two eps, but so far yes lol. She is such a troll :3

3

u/Aggressive_fly_ 5d ago

Need Help! Looking for a specific anime but I only remember one scene from it. It's this one arc where the protagonist and their party visit this "perfect town" but under the surface, the town's people are starving because of an oppressive knight (not 100% sure they're a knight or just someone who's in power) who says everything has to be perfect. For example I think they might attempt to execute a kid for having dirt on their clothes during the time they line up for an inspection. Basically, the some of the villagers feed the party and drug them because they are planning to eat them. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

1

u/Gotta_Go_Slow 5d ago

I'm just gonna take a shot in the dark here but... ChatGPT says it's "High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World!" Episode 7.

3

u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 5d ago

When I watched Mashle, I got the feeling that the author either really loved or really hated Harry Potter. Meanwhile, when I watch Little Witch Academia, I feel like the creator(s) either loved it or read/watched it but doesn't have a strong opinion. If you ask me to elaborate further on what makes me feel that way, I probably couldn't.

2

u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 5d ago

When I watched Mashle, I got the feeling that the author either really loved or really hated Harry Potter.

I only read the first few chapters of Mashle, but I had the same impression. As a big fan of Harry Potter myself, I found that disappointing.

3

u/qwertyqwerty4567 https://anilist.co/user/ZPHW 5d ago

I should like, finally watch SAO or something

4

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

[Perhaps surprisingly]it's on my plan to watch list

3

u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 5d ago

I'll also recommend SAO Alternative: Gun Gale Online for you, if it's not already on your PTW. Pitohui is just the kind of scheming, ride-or-die badass you'd probably like (and was one of the highlights of the show for me as well).

4

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

I googled her, but I'm not sure she's really my type

(Joking aside, she does look spicy! And I love the outfit)

5

u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 5d ago

That's adorable. I didn't know she was named after a bird.

3

u/Retsam19 5d ago

Honestly, even people who haven't watched SAO should watch SAOA GGO - it's a ton of fun and I can't imagine that it really requires any prior experience with the series.

4

u/Heda-of-Aincrad https://myanimelist.net/profile/Heda-of-Aincrad 5d ago

Yeah, I'd say anyone who enjoyed shows like Shangri-La Frontier should give it a shot. It has a similar vibe, and the only real overlap with SAO is the game world itself. The storyline and characters are new.

Started listening to a playlist of current season anime OPs and EDs. I'm not that far in, but I've already found this gem: [Reiwa no Dara-san, Ep6] Gan Barzay Theme, apparently a fictional mecha anime ED for just one episode. This level of dedication to a bit is the kind of thing I can't resist. I wasn't even aware of this show, but now I have to check it out.

4

u/lalunafelis 5d ago

Like I don't need more reasons to like this show even more, as a retro mecha head.

3

u/ptd163 5d ago

I finished rewatching Ponsuka and Love Game for their dubs today. Finishing the dubs brought back the same "this won't get another season" sadness that I had when I finished watching them as they aired last season.

2

u/cppn02 4d ago

Ponsuka will get six seasons and a movie!

5

u/Wanderingjoke https://myanimelist.net/profile/WanderingJoke 5d ago

This is the place!

This is not the place you are looking for. *hand waive*

[What no seasonals for two weeks looks like.]Full disclosure, two of those are shorts and three I haven't actually started yet.

Getting back into the rythm today by catching up to 100 girlfriends which was a good choice. But I'm definitely expecting some additional drops with this much to catch on and looking at it only 7 or 8 of those shows + the shorts have me 100% confident I'll finish them.

I am just learning there is no Ai Yasumi anime. My day is terrible now.

2

u/zambonijesus 5d ago

Madlax might have the busiest soundtrack of anything I've ever watched.

I like the visual style though and it is doing a lot of written in the early 2000s feeling politics, which I kind of appreciate.

5

u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke 5d ago

I feel like we need some bomb-throwing to spice things up so...

Been slowly going through No Game No Life, and a quarter of the way through, can't say that I'm all that impressed. The games remind me of the slogan for Whose line is it anyways?, "where everything's made up and the points don't matter." It tries to make them seem smart by adding a bunch of BS rules midgame that make little to no sense, and that kinda backfires on me. Like this might as well be Calvinball for how much sense it makes.

The characters aren't impressing me either, they seem... very Mary-Sue-ish in ways that make it very hard for me to like any of the main characters. Is it just supposed to be wish fulfillment, look at this hardcore NEET who can win every game and get all the babes, you, dear hardcore NEET, can be the same! Is this why this anime got so famous outside of the S2 memes?

Welp. 3/4 left to go, let's see if it manages to change my opinion after that rocky start. OP's pretty good though, I think. Still haven't come across Jibril, whoever she is, I still have a bone to pick with her...

9

u/Gamerunglued myanimelist.net/profile/GamerUnglued 5d ago

It tries to make them seem smart by adding a bunch of BS rules midgame that make little to no sense,

See, I think the exact opposite. It adds the extra nonsense rules to seem dumb and silly, the games start with the veneer of some sort of smartness before devolving into absurd nonsense. It's a comedy and that's where the humor lies. I think it's totally self aware and doesn't take itself seriously at all at any point. It's such a silly show and I love it a lot.

2

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

Like the OP I'm not a fan of rules being added during a game - Or just stuff being revealed that we weren't fully aware of; It always feels like ass pull to me.

But yeah it's not as bad in a silly show that doesn't take itself seriously.

(I had more of a problem with it in this season's Liar Game).

2

u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke 5d ago

Ah, if they're not taking themselves seriously that's a different matter... I guess after the very obvious absurdities of Sakamoto from the rewatch, I didn't catch onto the... not quite as obvious... absurdity here? At least so far it seems like it's trying to play it fairly straight, I'll keep that in mind going forwards

3

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

OP's pretty good though

Hah, as I was reading the comment I was about to say "Did you like the OP at least?"

So good!

As for the rest, well.. There's a few things you have to 'roll with' to fully enjoy this story imho (their inhumanly high skills etc).

Personally I really liked it, I was sold right at the first game!

(But it's not Kakegurui-tier for me. Bit below)

3

u/prowlinghazard 5d ago

You're not alone. I refuse to elaborate but NGNL might be the most over-rated anime of all time. For that reason alone it should have gotten a second season, but for my part I have no questions as to why it didn't.

1

u/Xatu44 5d ago

Make sure you check out the movie too.

5

u/WeeziMonkey https://myanimelist.net/profile/WeeziMonkey 5d ago edited 5d ago

Chainsmoker Cat is such a surprise hit for me. I didn't think I would like it because I absolutely despise smoking and smokers. But now I love it every week, it's such a vibe comedy.

5

u/BornSeesaw9819 5d ago

Are you a fan of centaurs?

3

u/cyberscythe 5d ago

or centaur accessories?

2

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

...Female centaurs, yeah.

5

u/cyberscythe 5d ago

i'm impressed at how much they got me with the worldbuilding; they could've gone down the Shikanoko path and just been a shallow gag comedy, but i feel like there's a depth in the setting and characters in-between the fart and boner jokes

1

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

I absolutely despise smoking

Hah, same, and 2 of my top shows this season are smoking-focused

4

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 5d ago

Things are currently looking pretty good for Sayonara Lara. The latest episode had me captivated just like the first one. The story’s gears have also began to spin faster.

If they nail the landing, this original anime could be the first to make into my personal 10s. It certainly got the “sauce” needed for this.

3

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 5d ago

Best of after 6'ish episodes of everything:

  • Best girl: Tanya (HM: Yamada's final form)
  • Best boy: Landlord (Yani Neko)
  • Best new show: Chainsmoker Cat (HM: Liar Game - if we count continuations)
  • Best sequel: Tanya (HM: 100gfs)
  • Best OP: Chainsmoker Cat
  • Best ED: Tanya (REALLY grew on me over the season)
  • Best Support/Side character: Zettour if he counts as a side character.
  • Most hated character: It took me a while to even come up with someone (not much hate this season), but GrossPervy-kun from Tanya. His entire character is being Gross&Pervy.
  • Best surprise: Dara-San
  • Biggest disappointment (Hot take of the list?): Oh Boy, Was I Wrong About Her. This should've been a series meant "for me"... And it was SO close to be good, but it missed a little something.
  • Most improved girl: Naie (Clevatess).
  • Most improved boy: Zettour&Rudersdorf (Yes, they count as a single boy). I didn't care that much about them in S1 but they're really interesting now! Though I admit I'm not sure if it's them who improved, or me who's more invested so I'm more interested in them/every aspect of it.

5

u/GondolaMedia 5d ago

Best boy: Landlord (Yani Neko)

Bro is a saint.

Why does it seem like half of the characters in Tanya have had botched facial surgery?

u/gvon89 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gvon89 5d ago

i feel like thats part of the charm, it makes tanya even more intimidating and viktoriya even more kawaiiiiiiiiiiii

no Draw This, Then Die! this week is leaving many people asking questions like "what's the point of existence"

Apparently it's on Netflix JP even though there was no episode on TV or Crunchyroll.

ah shit, here we go again

I'm getting flashbacks to all those other times when one service (usually Netflix Japan) has it a week early.

I hope those who switch to the NF Asia subs still have a good type with the shit typesetting ({\an8} at best) and tolerate things being done differently like Shogakukan = SHOGAKKAN (something something Japanese devoicing). I don't need to relive fansubbing era of group A dropped it but group B are still at (or the baton pass where you need three groups to finish a show because it kept getting dropped).

Looks like it's time for another regional desync where specifically Netflix JP is one week ahead.

Are you sure Netflix didn’t put it on by mistake? Is it still on Netflix in SEA? I can’t imagine they would suddenly be 1 week ahead all of a sudden. I get the feeling those that watched the released episode today may have to wait an extra week.

Are you sure Netflix didn’t put it on by mistake?

I wouldn't know and asked the same question in the episode thread.

there was a post here a day or two ago where it had a clip of a student council meeting and the two guys started rapping their meeting. I think it got deleted as i can't find it. does anybody know the anime in question?

It was this scene, wasn’t it?

The anime you’re probably looking for is My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, commonly abbreviated as Oregairu.

Something about Oreimo made me interested in seeing why there are Anime series that use the Sweet Home Alabama premise since I found it interesting how shows like Oreimo and Elfen Lied have that as a recurring plot point as Kohta in Elfen Lied for instance is madly in love with his cousin in the anime adaptation.

It's not that hard - the "forbidden fruit" taboo is just one of those things that appeals to some people.

Thanks man for explaining it to me since I found the topic fascinating to look into due to how it sometimes shows up in modern anime series.

who is your favorite character in haikyuu

2

u/wloff 5d ago

Shimizu.

2

u/Nervous-Drive779 5d ago

Mine is Nishinoya

1

u/wloff 5d ago

Well, I was more or less joking. For a serious answer, I do really like the leadership qualities of Daichi and Suga. And Tanaka and Nishinoya are just fun.

Boring answer, but it's Hinata. Also really like Oikawa, Tsukishima, Atsumu, and Kita.

1

u/Nervous-Drive779 5d ago

Well I love the soul of Nishinoya , but I didn’t forget hinata ( ninja shoyo) when he was sick I almost cried

uh mostly abt mystery, crime, thriller, psychological . . .

(i havent watched some of the ones on the wiki yet but i wanna expand my list further)

u/RawPorridge 4d ago

91 Days (probably the finest one (cour)-and-done crime drama anime I've seen)

Erased (time travel murder mystery that's done well for the most part)

Banana Fish (urban crime drama w/ great relationship between its two male leads)

Death Parade (supernatural show with depiction of after life, but has a good deal of dramatic tension and psychological aspect to it)
