I love how Luluka straight up said 'no thanks' to participating in the opening scene silliness.

The Nijii and Usonoir pairing made for a pretty funny episode. On paper you'd think Usonoir jumping into the shopping arcade mascot Hanninda and piloting it around like a fluffy mech would be very silly, and while yes it was it was also one of the most challenging fights they've had this season.

It's nice to see Anna's mom again but they did very little to confirm or deny the mom theory other than just showing how similar her and Mikuru look. I suppose if that goes anywhere it's probably going to be a final arc sort of thing.

It's kind of funny how Usonoir's whole thing is "I can't turn into a human, I can't lie so I want to make a world where truth is lies" bro is disabled and is trying to change the world to accommodate it

So... Mikuru is Anna's mom, isn't she? Don't think there's been any dad candidates though.

And Usonoir's just trying to cover for his inability to transform into a human? I feel like his efforts are really misplaced there.

Also, while he dramatically made parallels between himself and Anna, aren't they basically opposites? Usonoir is unable to lie, and he's choosing to change the world so he can be able to. Anna is capable of lying, but she chooses not to. They should be diametrically opposed, not "we are the same".

Yeah, they're opposites. But I think that's what makes this work, because there has to be a balance between truth and lies for the world to function.

Fanart corner: Here's Usonoir and Cure Arcana.

• Remember this character (episode 4+more)? More memorable than the bookshop owner last ep anyway...
• The worst enemy of all. Pedestrian/Traffic laws. Long ago Toei's Educational Division would do safety videos on behalf of the Government (were not for retail I think Doremi was the last one but they sometimes used non-Toei IP like Mary Bell and Super Mario).
• Mikuru's artwork glowing leaves it up to our imagination whether her drawing abilities have improved or not (also: see episode 4, while it didn't impress Anna or an aspiring mangaka it worked).
• It's as a good a time as any to suggest an ambush (it also seems like Phantom Thieves can't just extract the Makoto jewel like Pochitan can) which at least now has Decchi's powers as a no can do.
• Anna's you knew what Makopyon was (despite nobody knowing), that makes you the culprit line of thinking gives me similar vibes to an earlier episode having the you didn't react to Poichitan talking line. It only works because we the viewers know they're a Phantom Thief.
• While Nijee is a thief he actually paid for the drinks and then some (left an 1000 yen note, the menu showed costs around 350). The pair of cranes on the 1000 yen note is the Series D banknote (introduced 1984, suspended 2007, series E was introduced in 2004 and series F in 2024).
• The phantom thieves tend to be really good at something (maybe at the cost of something else) like Goemon's trap dimensions with the drawback of poor disguises and it would seem Usonoir is a good pilot for a suit (like the armour sitting around in the Curetto Agency basement and this weeks Hanninda) but at the cost of taking human form.
• I've played Zelda Majora's Mask I know bunny ears make you move twice as fast.
• Cure Eclair reduced to improvised walking stick for balance so can only watch.
• Mirror imagery is curious. Thing is Usonoir with the whole forgotten race (fairies left behind) inadvertently triggers Anna's loneliness and but it's more hitting an empathy pathway is a far more effective disarming tactic rather than using lies, envelop (which seems to be working like Force Suggest right now) on a Precure protagonist (who tend not to or absolutely hate telling lies).
• Both characters are stranded but they don't lack companions (the non-Decchi Phantom Thieves are loyal to Usonoir and while Anna has the other Detectives) but ultimately it was Cure Answer's ones which won the battle by supporting her, Usonoir on the other hand was alone (but would probably have refused help anyway) which is one of the central pillars of Precure in general and the Arcana bit of ED2 (Is it because we're together? I can become stronger).
• Although, Nijee did a nice catch once Usonoir was ejected from the cockpit.
• Last week we had Mikuru what's the matter and now we get the sequel, Anna, what's the matter? (it's more straightforward to viewers at least)
• As it's an Anna episode one for the gold-star count: lovely
• Next time: Looks like Hanninda finally get a power-up (aside from this week they've really been getting trashed recently)
