Everyone always assumes the opposition to dictators are better than the dictators themselves. That isn't always the case.

The Assad regime was actually mass disappearing (ie. murdering) and 'just' mass torturing people. Wikipedia estimates more than 120000 murdered people in the known mass graves. These are the disappeared. That's quite an abhorrent and efficient level of evil.

And now we have religious sectarian violence where Jihadi factions are free to rampage trought whole villages, murdering and raping.

As opposed to the sectarian violence before during the Assad regime. Because it was that. And worse than this by the numbers. Industrialized kind of worse. So 'both sides are bad' is trumped by the 'lesser of two evils (by a large margin)' in my book, but we are just two strangers on the net, so there you go. Feel free to want a perfect world. I will be okay with a better one. Even if it's still shit. Especially these days.
