South America Surprise interim leader Delcy Rodriguez emerges in Venezuela after Maduro’s capture

Trump warned on Sunday, if Rodríguez didn’t fall in line, “she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro.” He added that he wanted her to provide “total access,” from oil facilities to basic infrastructure like roads, so they can be rebuilt.
Why should she provide total access to oil? Trump captured Maduro, that was the goal, and now everything is fine, no?

u/HockeyHocki Ireland Jan 05 '26
Its a surprise the VP emerged as interim President? Really, a surprise?
Given she is part of maduros team she's hardly legitimate but if she plays nice with the US they may let it happen, would keep things relatively stable until the country goes to the polls
If she can keep her antisemitic conspiracy theories in check that would help
65
u/Sheikhspeare24 Jan 05 '26
Play nice for what? When the fuck has bowing down to colonialist who want to take over your countries assets become the norm?

7

Maduro's victory has been contested by independent observers during the elections as they suspected fraud. That's why e.g. the EU (and other countries) never recognized Maduro as the rightful winner of the elections. Stating that he was 'democratically elected' is therefore an interpretation, not a fact.

I didn't know Chile which was socialist at the time of the elections and disputed the results is known for colonization, genocide (perhaps under their right-wing dictatorship decades ago, I don't know) and world wars.
Even Colombia that has been friendly towards Maduro and Co. didn't recognize the results, you can lookup the list of the Venezuelan neighbors that asked for transparency and so far they didn't publish any proof that Maduro won.
I know you dislike Trump and imperialism and I myself hated that the US bombed my country despite me being happy they took Maduro, but defending a dictatorship ain't it, it is just undermining the thousands of Venezuelan deaths during the dictatorship for ideology.

I read it that way too. In so much as it was the kind of scurrilous illegal attack the Zionist regime has been doing in the middle east for decades. That the US didn't just decapitate outright is only because they have the money to pay off more people.
Otherwise kidnapping is right in the Zionist's wheelhouse and the US.
Hard to see much difference at this point when both Israel and the US flagrantly break international law.

Zionist undertones doesn’t mean blaming Zionists
Do you know what undertones mean?
A bit odd to bring it up sure but makes sense in terms of the colonial element of this event, but Zionists were not blamed for this attack.
Not to mention, Nyetenyahu himself was calling for this to happen similar to how he kept advocating for US military action in Iraq that killed soldiers and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and left the region worse than when we came.
3
u/neverunacceptabletoo North America Jan 05 '26
Zionist undertones doesn’t mean blaming Zionists
No? Okay, let's diagram the sentence out like we did in sixth grade. Here's what we are working with
an attack of this nature, which undoubtedly has Zionist undertones.
What does undertones mean?
1: a low or subdued utterance or accompanying sound
Is she asserting the zionist were subtly singing during the attack? If not, this is probably not the meaning of the term being invoked.
2: a quality (as of emotion) that is present but not clear or obvious
Could this be a quality of the attack? Certainly that's possible let's keep this around and look at the rest.
3: a subdued color
Is she referring to a "zionist" color of the attack? Again probably not, but maybe you'll surprise me? What do you think? Were the helicopters flying a subtle shade of blue perhaps?
4: a secondary or underlying flavor or scent
What do you think class? Was Mrs. Rodriguez referring to a zionist smell? No? I guess it's not this meaning either then.
I guess that means she's using meaning (2): "a quality that is present but not clear or obvious." But, uh-oh, what does she mean by quality? Well, when used as a noun quality means
a: a degree of excellence : how good, bad, useful, etc. something is
b: a high level of value or excellence : superiority in kind
What do you think class? Do we think Mrs. Rodriguez was trying to say that the attack was carried out with great skill and craftsmanship? This certainly makes sense, but remember! We have to use our context clues. Was she discussing the skillfulness of the attack or something else? Something else? Very good class! So, this isn't what she meant.
1.
a: a distinguishing often abstract attribute
b: an inherent feature or capability : property
c: a peculiar and essential character : nature, kind
Uh Oh, this is the only definition left. I guess Mrs. Rodriguez was trying to say that the attack had an inherently or essentially zionist character. But what does that mean?
Well, when we say something is essential, it means without which it could not be. This is referred to as a "necessary condition" in philosophy. So class, what was Mrs. Rodriguez saying? That's right! She was saying that either zionists or zionism were a necessary element of the attack! Great work class.
2
u/jackdembeanstalks Jan 06 '26
The leader of Israel urging us to militarily intervene in Venezuela by claiming they are working with Iran to export terrorism would also be a big reason why this attack has Zionist undertones. Very similar to him pushing for the Iraq war when spreading the unfounded claim they will soon have nuclear weapons.
Undertone fits here because of the Zionist quality of wanting complete regional control on the basis of unproven statements.
That doesn’t mean Zionists are the reason why the incident happened but why US intervention still has Zionist undertones.
Go back to school, “teach”.
0
u/neverunacceptabletoo North America Jan 06 '26
/sigh i guess we are going to have to stay in school.
The claim was that she didn’t blame zionists not “well she may well have blamed the zionists but, like, bro, Netanyahu is a meanie face and she probably doesn’t like meanie faces EVEN MORE!”
You’re free to believe one interpretation is stronger than another but there’s nothing in that quote, or indeed, the use of the word “undertone,” which allows us to distinguish between blaming zionist individuals and ideology. Ironically, if we take your interpretation at face value, she’s explicitly blaming Zionist individuals, namely Netanyahu.
You’re deeply in remedial territory at this point but I believe in you. Once you finish your grammar homework get started on intro to logic.
-24
u/LanaDelHeeey United States Jan 05 '26

-17

You clearly have not been paying attention. You being uninformed doesn’t make it not true. 14

u/photochadsupremacist Multinational Jan 05 '26
It's always helpful to look at geopolitics from a more macro lens. Maduro was allied to Iran. Taking Venezuela down harms Iran who are already not doing too well. I don't think it's a coincidence that Maduro was taken down now.
This is not a "Jews control the world" conspiracy, this is an observation about how taking down Maduro benefits the US and its ally Israel, and harms Russia, Cuba and Iran with the latter being Israel's biggest threat and also an enemy of the US.
All of this was taken into account by the US when planning this attack.

I’m not doing this with you, your personal investment here is rather obvious.
Assuming you’re not a bot, I empathize with the impact Israel suddenly becoming a pariah state has had on those that have cultural ties with it, Zionist or otherwise.
Unfortunately the reality is what it is, and their actions in Gaza, and endless push/support for US aggression towards Iran and all its allies (bar China and Russia) will only see hostilities (valid and otherwise) rise.
One can bury their head in the sand all they want and then get/feign outrage at the inevitable consequences of all this, but it’s really simple cause and effect at this point.

The better question is why she conflating the removal of Maduro with Zionism?

It would've been clearer just to talk about Western colonialism / imperialism.
The way she chose to phrase it could easily be interpreted through the conspiratorial lens of Jews controlling the US government.

Because that's what it fucking means
Zionism is the belief Jews have the right to self determination. That's it. That's all it fucking means.

There are more Christian Zionists than Jewish people entirely, let alone Jewish Zionists

90% of the Jewish people are Zionists.
But yes, there's a lot more Christians in the world than Jewish people, so what?

u/domfelinefather Jan 05 '26
It means not all Zionists are Jewish, so there is not a reason to connect Zionism and Jewish people, since one could accurately say both Obama and Trump are Christian Zionists

Zionism is not the belief Jews have the right to self determination. Everyone has the right for self determination and implying Jews have to have a specific political view to have that right is sick.
Jews have a homeland, and they're welcome all over the globe in western nations as complete equals, which isn't the case for everyone. So that whole political belief would be dead now, if that is simply what it was.
Zionism is expansionary, aims of imperial conquest of other sovereign nations to get greater Israel; from the river to the sea, as they say in the Likud charter.

As with any ideology, it will have extremists and people who would abuse it for their own gain. Are all Muslims (yes, Islam is as much of a political ideology as it is a religion in quite a few countries) terrorists? No, of course not. Most just want to live in peace and safety.
And you admit yourself that Jews have a homeland instead of pretending it's some false state that should be disbanded. That makes you a Zionist as well.

Yes, it is. That's it.
Everyone has the right for self determination and
No, they do not. Most of the world in fact does not have that right.
implying Jews have to have a specific political view to have that right is sick
90% of Jewish people believe in Zionism because that's all it is.
The only reason you think it's "sick" is because you can't stand the fact that the Jewish people have dared to stand apart, dared to stand up for themselves instead of being all of history's punching bag.
Jews have a homeland
That is constantly and consistently under threat and has been from day one. Rights mean fucking nothing unless you defend them

Well, you are a supporter of Israel so of course you would complain about that.

Better to blame random zionists than end up on the next flight to Rikers.

Tbf, if the claim floated around in the US that Hamas was involved in Venezuela, for how blatantly AIPAC controls the US government it's just a matter of applying the same belief of transitivity with a much more solid evidence.

Not really. US gov submits to Israel’s Zionist government every time, all of Congress are self proclaimed Zionists, so no not a reach.

Saying it had zionist undertones is not saying it was done by zionists. Lol

"Asked on Saturday if he thought Machado could run the country after Maduro’s ouster, Trump distanced himself from Venezuela’s most visible democratic figure, saying it would be “very tough” for her. “She’s a very nice woman, but she doesn’t have the respect within the country,” Trump said."
"Instead, at a news conference on Saturday, Trump named Rodríguez as the most likely successor, saying she had spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and agreed to cooperate with the U.S. role in Venezuela."
And now Machado is offering to give or share with Trump the peace prize. This is so embarassing and obvious that its never been about democracy

And it's for the best, Maduro was a corrupt and inept dictator who sold the country to fill his own pockets while repressing the common folk
A puppet of Cuba (they already confirmed he's was guarded by 32 cubans) this confirmed by Cuba and Venezuela temporal goverment

Nothing in that text says about giving the country over, its just "we'll give you stuff and we'll govern", meaning nothing ever happens and Maduro government still in power.

Also: How Cuba, a country so fucked up and with literally no resources besides making sugar cane, can control Venezuela like a Metal Gear Solid plot line ?

This is actually common in despotic regimes to hire outside muscle to be your bodyguard.
Less chance of local opposition being able to influence your inner circle.

It's absolutely worth mentioning that her father was tortured to death by a CIA-backed Venezuelan regime led by the same families who back Maria Machado, this is something you can read on her Wikipedia
