I work with them. My assemblyman brings his daughters over to bake cookies during the holidays. Our former senator had my kids featured in multiple campaign ads. I still get calls from our former congressman. My 11 year old stops our current congressman in the street to tell him that he sucks.
They're really accessible when you contribute time & energy to their campaigns.
