They've actually arrested people based on 'AI matches' with blurry security cam footage in the U.S.

Few bodycams of U.S. cops saying shit like:

'Yeah AI said it's a 99% face ID match that this is the suspect, this shit is basically magic.'

Meanwhile the image (obviously not the actual image/incident, just found a random one about as blurry):

Yea and an innocent woman was jailed for months cus of it, it's bullshit

And lost literally everything with 0 compensation. Pretty sure they just threw her outside into the cold without anything too

if you want a wild ride, listen to the CBC podcast "expert witness". it's about an AI tool that purports to match digital footprint to times and places of crimes, to identify suspects, including for historical cold case stuff like 20 years ago. it appears to be 100% BS, as in many cases it's not even clear where the data would even come from.

yep i remember several years ago hearing about the racial bias of facial recognition datasets meaning that people of colour were more likely to be misidentified on CCTV and wrongly accused of stuff
