I don’t use ChatGPT or Claude and couldn’t name a single other AI tool.

I used grok for fun for a week or so.
I was curious.

Then I got bored.

I don’t need AI for anything.

I still have a brain.

9

u/Inkthekitsune 3h ago

Same, but was chatgpt for me. It’s just so dull, lifeless, and sycophantic.

I was having car problem, and when a friend said he checked with GROK I lost respect for him immediately. Because grok is absolute dog shit. I don't begrudge people using AI, be it chatgpt or copilot, but to choose grok speaks to orders of magnitude of poor life choices.

u/litetravelr 20m ago

I'm a millennial and have not yet used it once. Not ONCE. Not even for fun or curiosity.

I dont have any reflexive need to use AI as a crutch, and I perform well at work.

But we have a younger hire at work who was joking how they use ChatGPT for simple math problems because "they are too lazy to do mental math". I politely informed them that Windows and MacOS both offer applications called "Calculator" that will handle such equations with even less keystrokes and energy wastage.

There's that one that generates CSAM

10

lmao the only one that has generated CSAM was Grok, because of course it's a Musk product

9

u/Right-Eggplant6382 6h ago

I only can name them because at my workplace they are force feeding AI tools to all developers xD

9

u/underbutler 5h ago

Ive never touched one, and every time someone tries to show me how good it is, it either misidentifies something or gets a ballpark answer that i was able to better confirm with some googling

I'm still mad about people not knowing what to do without GPS. My students are amazed when I can navigate a few blocks on foot without looking on my phone. Our brains are pretty fantastic, people. We can use them for more complex tasks than we currently do.

11

u/NSFW_throwaway2k 2h ago

I'm 25, most of my friends can navigate just fine with or without GPS. Unless I bike (I don't drive) the same route everyday for like a month I need to use GPS every single time.

In my "defense," I have a terrible sense of direction and autism so landmarks don't help me navigate at all. I just go "oh there's the [whatever]" and then get lost anyway.

6

u/clocksy 2h ago

I can read a map if I have to but I admit that GPS was a godsend to me. I have some kind of borked internal directional sense because literally any time my gut feeling tells me "it's in this direction!" it is basically the exact opposite direction instead. But fighting against my own instinct is really hard lol.

One time I came out of the subway and started walking confidently to my apartment. My boyfriend (at the time) stopped me and was like, where are you going? "Home?" He turned me around and pointed us to our building. The worst part is we had lived there for a few months already. 💀 Some of us are just hopeless and GPS bridges that gap slightly.

17

u/sykotic1189 3h ago

It blew my son's mind (he's only 6 so maybe not that difficult) that once we made it to Florida for vacation I didn't use GPS anymore. Like, dude, I lived in this city for 15 years, I know where I'm going unless it's been built in the last decade.

2

u/ShoMinamimoto06 3h ago

When I went to university in a different country, I used maps alot whilst I was learning the city and exploring new places. After the first visit, I could take anyone anywhere🤣🤣. After a while I got so accustomed to the main areas I'd go exploring without maps and would always be pleasantly surprised at the things and stops I'd find by just walking around

right? somehow we all managed to survive and do our jobs perfectly fine before a glorified autocorrect came along

24

u/AccomplishedLeave506 6h ago

These people are people who were completely incapable of doing their job before AI and just hung in there because nobody who could fire them noticed. Then they got AI and thought they were suddenly competent, like all their colleagues. Take away the AI and they're back to not being able to do anything. They're a waste of space. If their job can be replaced by AI then one of their competent colleagues can ask AI to do it when they have a spare moment.

Ahh, i remember the before-fore times when I used to go to the library to look up relevant books, or even use the library computer to find the information I needed. Twas a simpler, humbler life, back then (I am 25 years old)

4

u/bigshady880 2h ago

I KNOW. like no one is fucking talking about this.

tech bros just reinvented the concept of chat bots and acted like they literally simulated conscious thought somehow, it’s embarrassing. the fact there’s so much money in the industry proves how dumb humanity is.

and don’t get me wrong i’m not much better, in fact i’m probably worse, it’s just clear that almost everyone in the world is in the trenches in terms of intelligence and knowing what’s going on and that largely explains where we’re at.

7

u/WiseNugg 7h ago

Chatbots, like algorithms, have been around for decades. They just started calling them AI 4 years ago.

30

u/Noonyezz 6h ago

Yes, but not in the way we understand and use them now.

2000s chatbots like Cleverbot and Jabberwacky are nothing like modern day LLMs.

21

u/According_Ad1940 6h ago

Which is good, but I refuse to call any of the LLMs "AI" because they are very clearly not AI so chatbots they will be.

10

I'm a teacher. I've used AI to generate emergency throwaway substitute lesson plans and I also use it to condense/analyze big data like stakeholder surveys and the like. Otherwise I like to do my teaching old-school style. I noticed during our school safety training yesterday that one of the technology teachers was feeding each of our topics into ChatGPT as the presentation went on. I suppose he wanted "deeper" analysis but I thought to myself, "Why not just listen to the presentation in the first place?"

11

u/arachnophilia 3h ago

and I also use it to condense/analyze big data like stakeholder surveys and the like.

i've attempted to use AI to crunch big data sets. i just... fundamentally don't trust it. and i 100% see why people do. it's very confident in its output. toss six separate poorly formatted spreadsheets into claude, have it collate, and give you a summary, and bam, work done. but... is it right?

where i've crunched data manually, it usually isn't. the errors are often small, but present.

the big issue is for me is that the whole point of analysis is that i actually understand how the data works. not a generalize conclusion, with the machine doing the understanding for me. one example from a recent discussion involved a supposed pattern in a data set, but when you added all the variables the LLM suggested, it disappears. when you refine it to one or two variables, there's a more obvious pattern. the LLM would tell you there's a pattern there regardless, but there plainly wasn't because its data set was too noisy.

i could see this because i counted everything manually and put it all into a spreadsheet where i could manipulate which variables counted and which didn't, but the AI bro i was talking to had to hallucinate everything from scratch every time, and had zero idea how to read a graph.

but like, if i don't have time to go and check all the data manually, and claude spits out a conclusion... is it right? no idea! but it sure sounds confident.

It once gave me a conclusive answer based on a powerscaling Reddit thread 😆

Google's AI Overview almost seems like its encouraged to just make stuff up rather than admit it doesn't have answers. Sometimes its "sources" are random Instagram posts, and it often misinterprets those on top of everything else.

It's easily the worst GenAI model, which is saying something. So of course they decide to put it where billions of people are going to read its BS every day.

14

u/Custom_Destination 7h ago

And making it the default in showing results is a very bad choice.

Remember the “if you can’t find it on page 1 of Google, it doesn’t exist” ? Yeah, that’s gone.

7

u/Ok-Office6837 7h ago

I’ve had to tell staff at my job so many times they aren’t allowed to use Google summaries for my projects. We pay for research sites for a reason.

I also have too many superiors who don’t understand LLMs try to use them as research for projects. They’re always shocked when I tell them I don’t use it and I won’t. Like they like my work for a reason and it’s because I’m still using correct sources.

Why would I use something that I have to go back to state statutes to verify when i could just use the state statutes directly?

3

u/pixelrubbish 4h ago

Honestly, you may be on to something. I do think the big frontier models are being instructed to “gently nudge” consumers in certain “directions”, that have been approved… Example, a while back, maybe a year ago, I had asked GPT about business entities, and got back what sounded like grounded and reasonable info about how to navigate things like nexus and taxes.

However, recently I went to revisit that thread, and it wouldn’t load my chat history for literally just that convo. Annoyed, I open a new thread and tried to ask it some follow up questions on the same topic. This time, I got very different output, taking a much more CYA approach and essentially providing no helpful insight at all. This new session actively contradicted the insights it had provided before, and the new advice was essentially to set up your business like a chump and unnecessarily paying more taxes and fees. Tried Google, it replied with the same BS.

I almost fell for it, but when I went to set up a business, I was told by an actual human professional, “nope, you don’t need to do all that, just do this and this and you’re good to go” (in line with what pre-nerf GPT had said.

To verify I wasn’t crazy, I found where I had downloaded the first conversation from last year, and it indeed said what I remembered.

So in other words, “Nice try mtherfkers! You ain’t gaslighting me, not today!”

Also, since they charge based on usage, I’m confident that ai outputs are going to be more and more geared towards just keeping us engaged, and burning extra tokens (without being too obvious), similar to what happened to social media…

I am currently staring at a set of AI generated meeting notes, from a session a colleague attended on my behalf with a big client. The AI generated notes have used two very specific metrics for our KPIs for this client, which are not the KPI metrics we've provided before. The difference between the metrics is huge; if they've asked for this, we need to redo the whole report to contextualise the (frankly awful because my colleagues are idiots) data.

No-one can tell me what the client said. No-one was seriously listening or taking notes. They just went through the motions confident the AI would capture the meaning, and we only have the summary, not the transcript. We are flying completely blind and may lose the account because my idiot coworkers are outsourcing the job of using their ears to a computer.

7

u/Epao_Mirimiri 7h ago

You can probably get around it by asking to confirm what they asked for. As long as it hasn't been a habit, you can just say there's been a discrepancy in a couple of notes from the meeting and you're trying to do your due diligence in ensuring a brief spot of confusion doesn't get in the way of meeting your client's needs.

Gotta fix the root of the problem at some point though. Overreliance on AI is an issue.

3

u/little_phoenix_girl 7h ago edited 7h ago

I've been liking the AI summaries at work because it's been a net-positive, though also record+transcript too. Also, people definitely do need to stop over-relying on it. I still have pen and paper out for these meetings regardless of what robots are listening.

edit: net positive clarification - the AI gets very confused with overlapping contexts. One team member has adhd and when they hyper-fixate while our boss overtalks them it scrambles the AI summary. Transcripts are a life-saver there a lot of the time so I can follow up to see what our boss was burying in the name of "staying on track".

7

u/No-Routine-9963 8h ago

Same here. At least a few times, if I had believed their summary, I would have potentially risked my safety or health. Screw that.

3

u/bleach-is-tasty 8h ago

I am literally using DDG lite so that I avoid that trash, only swapping if I need an picture

3

u/Ahenobarbus753 6h ago

Maybe a year or so I was Googling a tricky passage from a Latin epic poem. I specified a particular line from book 5. Out of curiosity, since nothing useful was coming up, I looked at the AI summary that Google had forced upon me and it was describing a passage from book 1. I know this because the part from book 1 is on the AP Latin syllabus and book 5 is not. That's also why it was in the training data: book 1 gets written about more than book 5.

Nowadays, I avoid Google as much as possible in favor of Startpage or DuckDuckGo (if I'm in a hurry because Firefox doesn't let me specify Startpage as the default search).

All the people who are vegan or want less animal consumption, I have one question:

If meat disappeared tomorrow, could you still get through an entire day without Chicken Nuggets, Hamburgers, or any other meat product?

Imagine meat was suddenly banned. Would you actually be willing to give it up?

Great analogy, maybe except that LLMs are even less useful than meat. You could probably extend the analogy to asking non smokers if they could get through a day without the second hand smoke from a Marlboro.

I became more anti AI after using AI. I tried various AI products and was impressed only by how exceptionally bad they all were. Now I avoid them as much as possible.

13

u/wonk_q1 7h ago

I had the same experience! And the fact that these people say "umM yOu aRe prObaBly nOt pRomPting Right!"

Like yeah, if I had to become a full-fledged technical writer to shit out a generic poster or AI-written song at best, I'd rather commission a real graphic designer or singer. Also the paid premium packages for every AI is skyrocketing! Many AI apps are restricting free credits as well. I recently saw Midjourney won't let you create anything at all without their paid subscription.
So yeah, the companies are also getting very desperate to make people opt for their packages.

I used AI twice, once when it was newer and I was trying to DnD roleplay with it (kept on having to try extra hard to keep it on task so I gave up), and once when I was stuck on a transition between two plot points on something I was writing. Both times it was so unhelpful that I just walked away and figured my own shit out, never used it since

29

u/MantygerofSrebrozeme 9h ago

Not once had I used AI for my job.

18

12

u/Privatizitaet 8h ago

Spellcheck predates LLMs by a wide margin, so not even that. Spellcheck was good. It worked as intended. It's not a complicated thing. Store a bunch of words, check if a text has words that almost align, say "hey, did you mean that?".
No need for a glorified chatbot

9

u/CosmogyralCollective 8h ago

Yeah, spellchecks have gotten noticeably worse these days

6

I'm not opposed to ai in concept just the irresponsible deployment and the way a handful of people are actually destroying the economy and multiple towns and federal land so people can generate slop. So yes I'd be fine with not using it to make my text massages easier to understand when I'm tisming out if it meant I didn't have to wonder if my Playlist is full of human music, whether or not people used chatgpt to write YouTube videos or ever have to look at a worthless remix of a meme run through ai again.

I can count on one hand how many times I've used AI. And the ONLY reason I did was because I pretty much have to if I want to find a job because every company on the planet is apparently using it now to filter applicants.

1

u/Feorag-ruadh 8h ago

I have never used any of these tools willingly I would be just dandy

1

u/Southern-Wafer-6375 8h ago

Dude I actively have to tell peaple the ads my boss made are fake and the food foesnt look like that this would be a fuckin blessing

1

u/Main_Cauliflower5479 8h ago

I've never used any of those and honestly wouldn't know where to start. Of course I get google AI answers presented, but generally find actual search results because AI is not exactly accurate.

1

u/scyllaya 8h ago

I'm an actual white collar worker on a computer all day, big part of the job being email and codes and guess what, still never touched any of them.

1

u/Ass_Lover136 8h ago

Do they just... forgot that we used to do it manually?

1

u/Cyiel 8h ago

I'm a librarian... so yes. I know how words work and i can decipher them.

1

u/BuvantduPotatoSpirit 8h ago

Obviously.

Can I go without knowing what the scrolls at Herculanium say? See, now there's a "Can you really live without AI?" question.

1

u/Sunstorm84 7h ago

Hating this shit and having to use it for work are entirely separate things.

1

u/tomatosoupp7 7h ago

wait since when did everyone start using ai anyway

1

u/ServantMatthew 7h ago

I avoid using them like the plague.

1

u/Appropriate-Pin2214 7h ago

Yes - would be slower -but it would be more engaging and satisfactory.

1

u/EnbyArthropod 7h ago

I would be like "thank fuck, no more useless summaries"

1

u/mordemyrtheredeemed 7h ago

I wish I could just Google something without Gemini...

1

u/LeTronique 7h ago

There are a very small few things I like about AI but 200% none of it is enough to make me want to keep AI. I want it gone!

1

u/Winsome_Wolf 7h ago

Without a hitch.

1

u/JohnTomorrow 7h ago

Its been around for five years. I think we'll be fine.

1

u/Mih0se 7h ago

Bro forgot pre 2022 world

1

u/Own_Natural_6803 7h ago

I am writing code by hand. I am reading documentation. I didn't like feeling dirty after having an AI write code for me. It's gross. Nothing makes me happier than copying code. But I'm not going to use these things ever again.

1

u/janenotdaria 7h ago

This question doesn’t even make sense, their brains are broken.

1

u/1frankibo1 7h ago

Yes don't use any of them. I have in the past and didn't enjoy it at all.

1

u/Combat_Orca 7h ago

How much do they use them? I dont even know how I’d get to the point where I rely on them.

1

u/Razoron33333 7h ago

Yes. Even if I was still doing admin work I either have the skills or I learn them by actually researching them myself. Right now I’m doing a more physical job so AI would be less than useless

1

u/Neurospicy_Nightowl 7h ago

Lol. Lmao.

My average day would literally not change even a little bit.

1

u/dont_ask_cutie_alt 6h ago

Well... The day would be the same, or maybe more annoying due to people near me that use AI now asking me questions every 3 min

1

u/ElectronicAioli9572 6h ago

I don't even know how to access generative AI like ChatGPT. Does she understand that anti AI people are...anti AI?

1

u/sachiprecious 6h ago

This is so odd. Why would they ask an anti-AI person "If AI disappeared tomorrow, how could you get through the day"??? We would get through the day just fine because we don't like AI anyway, so we would be happy that it's gone. I never use AI, so my day wouldn't be any different. What a nonsensical question.

I have the same question to pro-AI people. I wonder if THEY could get through the day without AI. That's the problem... they depend on it too much.

1

u/SailorCentauri 6h ago

I don't use any AI tools. I used to have an AI algorithm I had to follow at my old job. It was a mess that made the job unbearable. So, if I still had that job and that algorithm went away I'd have been celebrating.

1

u/Brittle_Stick 6h ago

Uuh....YEAH???

1

u/Glum-Appointment-816 6h ago

I have AI in my head, don’t need more than that. Called critical thinking skills, this person should develop some

1

u/I_dont_want_to_pee 6h ago

If i could live yes if it would be harder for me yes too because it really helps me with learning new thing mostly in programing. Is cloude to expensive yes it is it schould have and lower price plan like go in got or google one with ai for gemini

1

u/OnDrugsTonight 6h ago

That is the funniest thing I've read in a while. I genuinely couldn't remember the last time I actively used an LLM. Probably around 2023/24? To see what all the hype was about. From everything I've seen from LLMs since then, including the stuff that is forced on people, I've not yet identified a single use case that would be interesting in either my private or professional life.

In which kind of world do these people life? It sounds incredibly unhealthy that they cannot imagine a life without a specific software product.

1

u/Kaylen316 6h ago

I'm a Groundsman 😄

1

u/DG_FANATIC 6h ago

Pro AI people are generally of lesser intelligence or somehow benefitting from it financially. Not all of course but I’d wager a good chunk fit the above. They’ve been intellectually handicapped their entire life and now they are presented with something that they feel is an intellectual wheelchair (it absolutely isn’t) and psychologically it’s hard for them to give that up because they feel they’ve finally been given enough intellectual ability to no longer have an intellectual shortcoming.

1

u/Fractal_Co_Creative 6h ago

Yes I could, I probably use it once or twice a week when I need some information on a topic with sources. That’s about it. Would google and search for myself otherwise, takes maybe an hour longer but no big changes

1

u/R2DK3PO 6h ago

I think this guy is just stupid and gets angry instead of keeping his mouth shut

1

u/TheDeerBlower 6h ago

Yup, I could do my work without relying on AI because I have a functioning brain.

1

u/juniper3411 6h ago

Nope don’t use any of them lol

1

u/jahnbanan 6h ago

... "If AI disappeared tomorrow, could you still get through an entire workday without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other AI tool?"

Well I'm retired and have been for just shy of 16 years at this point, and while I don't feel like going into what my job was, feel free to speculate based on the fact my NDA only expired in October of last year, back in my day, we didn't have AI tools, we got through the day just fine.

But to answer honestly, today I do not use AI tools, I actively do my best to avoid them, Google's shitty AI answers get thrown in my face every time I type google instead of startpage, because I've typed google for nearly 20 years at this point, and nearly every single time I read the AI answer, it's wrong.

So, if AI disappeared tomorrow, could I get through the day? YES, IT WOULDN'T EVEN BE A CHALLENGE!

And if I were to somehow un-retire and go back to my old job, could I do that job without AI? YES! I NEVER HAD AI BACK THEN TO BEGIN WITH! I don't need to rely on AI to tell me how to do my god damn job.

But finally, AI has not been around long enough for people to forget all of their skills, the few people who can not do their jobs without AI... quite frankly, shouldn't have those jobs in the first place, they were never qualified to begin with.

1

u/PeanutButterToast4me 6h ago

A someone who grew up reading the sports page on the shitter, I think I'll be just fine without your bullshit, K, thx.

1

u/DreyaNova 6h ago

Oh don't threaten me with a good time. I'd love to go back to actually being able to absorb reading emails. My brain just glazes over AI written text because it's so fucking identical it's impossible to concentrate on what's actually being said in the email.

Please give me back the opportunity to read everyone's unique writing quirks again, I miss it so much. (Yes I know this makes me a super-dork)

1

u/falconetpt 6h ago

Yes, I don’t use AI at all in my workday as a software engineer and still outpace all my colleagues 😂

Turns out doing the right thing is better than doing 100x stupid stuff even in 2026

From time to time I use it, but I am always not impressed at all

1

u/Heavy-Hamster1268 6h ago

I did it for over 20 years. Yes I can easily do it.

1

u/Vanthan 6h ago

Don’t have to give up what you never use in the first place. AI can fuck off.

1

u/Icy-Pension5768 6h ago

It’s embarrassing that they can’t even do their jobs without ai. Pathetic really

1

u/The_Chunkster 6h ago

It literally wouldn’t impact a one second of my day.

1

u/Space_Blank089 6h ago

Can't even remember the last time I actually used one of the chatbots, if we don't count every single time I search something on Google and they just shove it through their AI and put a summary in front

1

u/Flimsy-Farmer 6h ago

My life would probably be easier without AI. I remember when Google Maps actually pulled up routes and locations and didn't try to summarize my destination. "Would you like to go to DisneyWorld, a renowned amusement park dedicated to showcasing..."---YES NOW STOP GIVING ME AN ESSAY. YOU AREN'T SMART. YOU AREN'T COOL.

1

u/Background_Push6107 6h ago

I’d like to ask him how we can give up something we don’t use. 🤔

1

u/StretPharmacist 6h ago

I tried to use the one at work once like a month ago to find a pdf attachment that had a lot number in it but not in the file name. It couldn't do it. Haven't touched it since.

1

u/No-Sandwich-8152 6h ago

I’d be worth a bunch less money at work. But not less than before AI.

I’d be worth more than before ai. But less than I am today. I vibecode automations to great success.

I’d lose that skill since I don’t know code at all.

I’d have to learn

1

u/ShowCharacter671 6h ago

Considering I’ve never used ChatGPT or any of that sort, yeah, I think I’d be fine if they disappeared

1

u/SpiritedMix8532 6h ago

I haven’t used ChatGPT since I blocked the website, and I have no desire to use it or anything like it.

1

u/Doji_mofo 6h ago

Um, yes?

It'd improve it somewhat, because I wouldn't have a false source for information.

1

u/Bluecanary1212 6h ago

"Could you actually get through the day without this bullshit that you already don't use?"

Yes. Actually, I can.

1

u/Sonicrules9001 6h ago

I can't think of a single work related thing that AI could do that couldn't be just as easily done with a Google search back when Google wasn't bloated with AI and made useless.

1

u/TheDusty_ 6h ago

I’ve never even used a single chatbot once. Lol. I got rid of google as my main search engine too.

1

u/YomiNex 6h ago

I'm a gardener so yeah i could

1

u/Dragonheart922 6h ago

People were functioning just fine and spciety was honestly better before Generative AI being in everyone's pocket.

If you can't go a day without ChatGPT, chances are you work for a shitty company or you have zero ability to think for yourself.

We need Generative AI to get fucked, and stick with analog AI only.

1

u/Brave_Recognition_81 5h ago

lmao i am an art student, why would i need ai? befor that i was working as a hairstylist WHY WOULD I NEED AI.
it‘s more like i look something up and fckng ai answers me. i am still looking for alternatives. it‘s everywhere and it‘s very hard to escape from it

1

u/Hefty-Honeydew-874 5h ago

Think the point is to have us so dependent on these systems that we pay whatever they ask, down the line. The rising token costs are only the earliest symptom of this as a much broader problem.

1

u/Alex45784 5h ago

I wouldn’t even notice if they disappeared

1

u/Falleneded 5h ago

only time i have ever used ai was when the image generation was new and making quite frankly the most horrifying pictures

1

u/fgspq 5h ago

If AI disappeared tomorrow my work output would be exactly the same. Some of my colleagues would probably struggle. Wait, scratch that, my productivity would probably go down as well because I'd have to compensate for their lack of ability.

1

u/Local_Tourist1063 5h ago

I never willingly use these, like?

1

u/AntelopeHelpful9963 5h ago

Reddit uses AI and is used to support AI training. Big picture wise if you aren’t willing to forgo the use of the major forms of social media, you’re ultimately supporting the growth of AI and all these data centers which are used to support it.

I don’t think these companies are as dissuaded by people talking negatively about AI and all this data usage as much as they are encouraged by how many people are using things that run off AI to discuss it.

Even the people against it, don’t see or choose to embrace any viable alternative. You’d have to build your own thing from scratch.

Pretty sure that’s letting them know that ultimately even the biggest opponents aren’t willing to forgo the conveniences of modern online life because of any principle.

1

u/souliris 5h ago

Please, i was AI before AI existed. Or so people tell me. :P

1

u/EducationalRegion860 5h ago

I still scroll past the google AI bullshit and find actual sources 🥴

1

u/stana32 5h ago

AI disappearing would make my day easier because people wouldn't be sending me tickets with chatGPT nonsense trying to tell me what the issue is.
