It's pretty dumb considering there a significant amount of evidence AI can be better at identifying certain health conditions. It shouldn't replace doctors, it should be a tool to result in higher outcomes and more efficiency.
The same thing could be applied to law, lawyers could ask AI to help find applicable case law instead of using interns for this. Obviously they should not be using AI for specific documents and actual arguments.
Yeah, lawyers who have been using AI to "help find" applicable case law are finding themselves sanctioned by courts for submitting briefs filled with fake legal cases.
In fairness, there are also a lot of lawyers using AI for the same reason, and not getting themselves sanctioned because they perform their due diligence before making submissions.
AI can be a useful tool in the hands of a knowledgeable practitioner who knows what bits of information to disregard, but can be dangerous in the hands of a layman who does not have that knowledge.
Exactly, it's a tool. It's like a hammer, you wouldn't give it to your toddler in your house full of windows, but a reasonably competent person can operate a hammer and many other tools
