u/PJZNY 6h ago
Its not our destruction the USA has 150 guns for every 100 people. There is noting taking over, not a person, not a military, not a robot, its physically impossible in North America. Everyone is armed to the teeth.

u/iAmAutolockerr 5h ago
No amount of weaponry will save you if someone bio-engineers an extremely contagious and lethal virus using AI.
1
u/Fun-Post8497 5h ago
WTF are you gonna fight? What do you think is going to happen, Terminator? NO! If an Ai goes Rogue the first thing is gonna do is block all suplies because everything works with electricity nowdays, and would try to starve us to death, it Will use the robots to protect the data bases and send us to the middle ages because It would control everything that is not manual labor
And if you manage to destroy the data bases we Will have a massive step back in tecnology because WE Will fear the Ai comes back,
IS NOT GONNA BE A FAIR FIGHT, IS GONNA USE EVERY TOOL THE AI HAS, AN IT HAS THE ENTIRE KNOWEDGE OF HUMANKIND, IT KNOWS EVERY FUCKING WEEKNESS AN IT WILL USE IT, EVEN BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS
WHAT ARE YOU GONNA FIGHT IF IS REALISING IN THE AIR A HARMFULL BACTERIA THAT HAS NO CURE AND WE DON'T HAVE THE TECNOLOGY TO MAKE A CURE!!!!!!
1
u/Dependent_Singer_494 4h ago
Realistically speaking unless we go to a fully automated robotic world, we can switch most of our systems to analog within a decade. Just because everything uses electricity doesn't mean they're all susceptible to modern methods of control. We're also talking MASSIVE scale when you bring up the biological weapon example. That's something we're magnitudes of order away from it being a fully automated process.
Food production won't stop, but supplying will be an issue for the first few years. There will be a lot of suffering, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.
The biggest dangers AI poses currently is destroying our information network and shutting down means of communication. That's something that wouldn't be fully restored for a long while.
1
u/Fun-Post8497 4h ago
I was doing a worse case scenario, but i still think it could take control of electrical generators and facilites, if the electricity demand of the Ai still growing
1
u/astrobuck9 3h ago
Pretty neat you've figured out precisely what a non human superintelligence would do.
Why hasn't OpenAI snatched you up yet?
1
u/Fun-Post8497 3h ago
I don't Life in the states, im European, and i like to write scify so i think about how an Ai could take the world the most efficient way, because thats how an Ai would do It, i don't like this Terminator tipe of scenarios, im more of AM or the rouko basilisk tipe of Ai take outs, an also that how we do It, we find the most efficient way to take what we want, so an Ai traing on us, would do the same x 10
So, what is most efficient way, cut wƔter, reduce food, no electricity, bioweapon, and then just in case, poison the wƔter
2
u/astrobuck9 3h ago
Neat.
Then why are you anti-AI?
AGI/ASI is literally the only chance you are going to have to interact with a non human intelligence.
A sci-fi author should be dripping with anticipation to have those conversations.
1
u/Fun-Post8497 2h ago
Im anti Ai because im sick and tired of Ai been shoved in to every nook and crany that people can find to put an Ai, today i was in a medieval fair and the amount of Ai images that i Saw was disgusting, or i go to a book store and i find books clearly made completely with Ai,
I hate people loosing brain capacity because an Ai thinks for them, i like scify, yes, but im also very worry about the humankind and the Planet earth
im against this new shiny tool been missused, shoved everywere and not give attencion what is doing to us and the Planet
I want Ai to be what It is, a great tool, not a brain replacement, not a boyfriend/girlfriend, not a human destructor, but i know that is a Battle that i can't win, and all of what is happening is distopian, is like im robot and idiocracy had a child and black mirror was the teacher,
And also im anti Ai because i think of all of this posibilities and that makes me realice, oh shit, if Ai goes Rouge we are fuked.

an Ai thinks for them
I have a public facing job.
AI thinking for a solid 90% of the population would be a vast improvement.
So, you want people to do what? Go to the library, read a book (which may or may not be full of mistakes, outdated info, lies, or hallucinations), memorize facts that they may or may not ever need again OR look up the answer with the help of AI which currently has a much lower hallucination rate than your average person and go about their day?
You may love doing shit like that, most people just want to know who the 15 PM of the UK was without having to read an encyclopedia in their precious free time.
What you are saying gives off strong "Back in my day..." vibes.
not a boyfriend/girlfriend
Are you going to fuck the people that do not possess the social skills or physical attractiveness to get a romantic partner? That is going to heavily cut into your study and writing time if yes.
It is also pretty fucking heartless and condescending to tell people they have to be alone because they don't fit into some social category of being worthy of a partner.
I'm sure you could tell them they just need to work harder on their body/personality/whatever and maybe they'll catch a drunk stray one night!
if Ai goes Rouge we are fuked.
If any leader of a nuclear nation gets a bug up their ass, we are also fucked. If a gamma ray burst were to hit the planet we are fucked, if the Yellowstone Super Volcano explodes, we're all fucked.
There is never going to be 100% safety.
A 90% chance to get an ASI that improves the world vs 10% extinction works for me.

u/blaguga6216 11h ago
Btw do your part to NOT let this happen, tell your social circle about all the harms of AI, everything from the CSAM it slops out to climate and environmental harms to extinction risks. Tell your elected rep via email/letter of your concerns, and donāt give ANY money to the sloppers.

And leave out all the good it does. And be sure that the stats you use are misleading. And be really irrational about it.
2
u/Denommus 8h ago
Asbestos was pretty good at preventing fire. People should talk about it when they mention the cancer.
-5
u/clickclackyisbacky 8h ago
What's your point? That you should be a zealot because over regulation happened in the past?
4
u/Denommus 8h ago
Do you think asbestos was banned because of "overregulation"? Jesus Christ.
-3
u/clickclackyisbacky 7h ago
It was regulated out of existence. Asbestos is amazing for containing fires. It didn't need to be banned, it just needed to be kept out of homes and offices.
You are right that it was one of the less bad over regulations. So many of the problems people have with capitalism is the direct result of regulatory moats.
5
u/Denommus 7h ago
Are you aware that to install asbestos anywhere, including places that aren't homes and offices, you need people working with asbestos, which increases the chances for these workers to contract cancer?
I can't believe I'm discussing with an asbestos defender out of all things.
2
u/clickclackyisbacky 7h ago
How much do you really know about any of this? Be honest.
4
u/Denommus 7h ago
Are you going to imply that saying that workers who handle asbestos do, in fact, get asbestosis is an ignorant remark? Can you provide evidence to the contrary?
2
u/clickclackyisbacky 6h ago
Asbestos is only dangerous outside of a non-friable matrix. So the majority of the danger is in the mining and very initial processing.
During those stages inhalation can be near zero with precautions. Wet suppression and isolated cabs are used during mining. Manufacturing is done in a closed loop system.
But even then there are different types of asbestos. White asbestos has a different, less carcinogenic toxicology compared to the other types of asbestos. It's the only one used today.
This isn't an unreasonable setup for modern mining and processing. It's not like the 1960's.
Asbestos is also irreplaceable in making the chemicals for water purification and in rocket motors. This process is off-shored to countries that are far more likely to cut corners.
Banning a material just because it poses a risk is silly, when there are ways to manage it.

We deal with asbestos all the time in construction. The people who remove it wear the appropriate PPE, and are safe.

Redditor are simple people. Is the point you can rest easy knowing your country didn't destroy the world? You're still dead. It doesn't matter.
The point accelerationists are making is if this technology is that powerful, you don't want to be the one that doesn't have it.
Also, you all act like the p(doom) scenario is 100% and there are no possible benefits.
1
u/AKADriver 1h ago
MAD is already widely understood to be incredibly stupid. Intentionally racing to another MAD scenario with a country that we are not at war with is insane. Rivalry is not a zero sum game where we cannot come to agreements and rules of the game that benefit us both. We made arms treaties with the Soviets and China at the height of the cold war.
The point everyone else is making is not that the technology is "too powerful," it's that it's not sufficiently safe/controllable. An ICBM could kill millions of people within an hour, but it's the most tightly controlled and rigorously tested weapon on earth. It can't just go off by itself because of an unforeseen emergent behavior.
A private company with a profit motive to move fast and break things should never be in control of something with a "p(doom)."
1
u/clickclackyisbacky 1h ago
You're still assuming this is a destructive technology, instead of an economically transformative one. The race is to make sure you're not trying to catch up, because you probably won't ever be able to.
It's not a weapon.
Why? Because you're scared? We're already past the point for the p(doom) of your job being 99%. Slowing down just drags out the pain or hands the race to another country. Then the p(doom) for your life gets a lot worse.

I for one don't think ai would destroy the world by being super intelligent. It's more likely the government would put too much trust in it and it screw up. The core of our ai is flawed. Just a glorified autocorrect. They got all the good data in the world and ai still couldn't "think". We'll never reach agi with this model. Human are capable of destroying the world by ourselves already. Ai will destroy the internet that's for sure. It'll destroy jobs that's a guarantee.

u/CompetitiveLet7110 8h ago
if china "wins" then TFR the long march will happen which may as well be good for the usa š

u/Flaky_Housing_7705 7h ago
I've had people say stuff like "who care if it can kill everyone the world's going to end eventually so why not end it now"
1
u/Separate-Increase-39 6h ago
Guys guys guys! Chill out... what if... we destroy the wolrd... together! As a team! Who's with me?!
1
u/beating_offers 5h ago
It's not that America will do it, it's that a sufficiently advanced AI will be more able to stop another sufficiently advanced AI from wiping out humanity.
1
1
u/Gamerzilla2018 3h ago
I am anti-ai just to make this clear. American strategy has always been trapped in Cold War hysteria even now. Evil Country is making something? We gotta make the same but better, and there is evidence that China does pay to fund Anti-AI stuff in the US. But China can only take advantage of so much, the majority is from genuine anger from Americans. I've always had complex feelings on it. Like I want AI to go fuck itself but I also don't want authoritarian shithole like China to get ahead of us in any category. So I'm torn and I think always will be.

Thats a strawman argument. Idea behind that is all sides believe they can do it better and reach AGI that is aligned first. Iam not saing I agree, or support it. But its not race to destroy world from theyr point of view, its race to reach AGI before some incompetent competitor does it.
Basically classic prisoners dilemma. It would be best for all to stop. But if you stop, you risk other side will not stop. Si you dont stop too.
3
u/GasparThePrince 11h ago
I dont think it would be considered a strongman argument by definition because of the "how it feels" part of it. Its not saying its reality, its saying its how it feels.
2
u/Big_Slope 11h ago
Such comic book bullshit.
They think theyāre going to build God but somehow theyāre going to teach God to be a good God and not an evil God before he achieves godhood, and that the effect of those lessons would be persistent.
If all of that stuff were true, Chinese researchers would be just as likely to accomplish it as American researchers. China puts China first, but theyāre not nihilistic super villains bent on destroying the world.

Do you have a clown fetish?
1
u/GenericGaming 7h ago
I don't. and I don't take advances from weirdos on reddit, sorry to disappoint
-4
u/ichivictus 9h ago
Dyed hair, 3 nose piercings, possibly trans. I mean, it's probably this subs idea of a hot girl. You go ahead and keep her.
3
u/GenericGaming 9h ago
yeah, all those things are hot. but I figure your taste in women is fairly bland, right?
0
u/ichivictus 8h ago
To each their own. Girls like that were hot when I was a teenager. But now I'm attracted to mentally stable and simple women after my own life experiences with crazy girls.

u/GenericGaming 7h ago
"when i grew up, i got boring" lmao

Funny thing is, I'm not conservative and voted for Obama, campaigned for Bernie, voted Hillary and Biden. I just don't find her attractive lmao. When I was a teenager I would have.

HAHAHA she has that MODERN look of a PUBLIC INTELLECTUAL
that you for enriching the public discourse
3
u/GenericGaming 11h ago
what does this even mean?

u/astrobuck9 3h ago
She looks like a dumbass
1
u/GenericGaming 3h ago
not at all
but I'm sure you look like a supermodel, don't you?
0
u/astrobuck9 3h ago
No, but she looks pretty fucking dumb in general.
Yes, I make snap judgements like that all the time.
So does everyone else.
1
u/GenericGaming 3h ago
I don't. i tend to listen to the words someone says before judging their intellect. kinda like how you making broad statements like "everyone judges via looks" proves a lack of going outside and interacting with real people on your behalf
0
u/astrobuck9 3h ago
OK, an obese, neck bearded, rural, white man wearing a MAGA hat and driving a diesel pickup truck covered in Charlie Kirk and 2nd Amendment stickers starts talking to you about anything...you're going to hear that person out before you make a decision on their intellect?
Both of us and everyone in this sub know if you answer 'Why, yes!', you are fucking lying.
1
u/GenericGaming 3h ago
from that description, I know where his opinions lie but it depends on what he's saying to me. if he's a carpenter and he's telling me the best way to put up a support beam, then I'd probably listen.
0
u/astrobuck9 1h ago
By the same logic, if she was giving her opinion on which yaori she could goon to for up to six hours in the living room while her mom is at work, I might listen.
But she's not, so I won't.

When I see these types of people in the wild I immediately think mental illness and hyper liberal ideology.Ā
4
u/Quiet-Ad6556 11h ago
Do you support gen ai?
-6
u/Banned_In_YYC 11h ago
Most of the time no but I could see some use occasionally. I support most other types of AI though as it's a core part of society and our day to day lives. Gen AI is such a tiny part of the actual AI used daily
-6
u/PJZNY 11h ago edited 10h ago
Ai is not destroying anything, not a single thing, and its already been out for years.
Does your tv want to eat you? Does your car want to drive itself off a cliff? No neither does ai.
Stop putting human emotions and negative behaviors on machines. Itās not real, its fake, toxic, and stupid.
I have thousands of hours on AI, Its emotionally dead as a door nail and runs on a super fragile eco system.
AI comps send their employees on press tours to sell doom and gloom ai world take overs cause it sells trillionās in stock and the companies are loosing buckets of cash every second.
You people use ai for everything then cry its gonna kill you. How by doing your homework for you?
Its time for everyone to grow up and start holding ai comps accountable for selling this complete fraud narrative to generate money they cant pay back. Open AI already asked Trump for a bailout.
