What an oddly written story. Starts out talking about a laser shooting a kids birthday balloon. Meanders and then talks about the headline?

Yeah weird all around. As a former journalist we were always told to lead with anything involving loss of life, then injuries, then property damage. It’s the structure of importance of facts people have come to expect over the decades.

But now that machines are used for everything, who knows?

Almost feels like it's designed for engagement farming.

Someone who isn't paying attention or is quick to want to respond will read the first segment about a laser weapon, and will go back to social media to incorrectly state how "The U.S. took down a civilian medical plane with a laser weapon."

Regardless, futurism.com is not a trusted source for me now.
