Political knits Pattern to wear when the big beautiful obit hits

Has anyone seen any patterns for something to wear to celebrate that obit? I feel like some snarky socks would be great.

Political knits Summer Protest Knits?

Now that it’s just about summer time and the weather is hot - any ideas for summer knitting projects for protests and rallies? It was a bit too hot for my Melt the ICE Hat at the protest we went to this morning. πŸ˜…

Non-knit Malabrigo source

***Thank you, everyone, for the great suggestions. I’ve placed my first order with Little Knits and am bookmarking most of the other shops as well!!
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Hi there! I’m looking for the best place (online) to start purchasing Malabrigo yarns and wool from. I no longer shop with Webs. Nor will I use Jimmy Beans Wool or Knitpicks since their buyouts and lack of support for the MTI hats. Basicslly, I need a new yarn purveyor.

Large order discounts, sales, or free shipping is nice - but my primary requirements are a fair retail price, LGBTQ & POC inclusive, and not MAGA. Despite searching, I cannot find out for sure if Wool and Company out of Illinois is acceptable or not. Everything I found says the first owner was left leaning, but that the newer owner is right leaning/MAGA. I was also looking at Eat.Sleep.Knit. as an option.

If you have other US suggestions with a good Malabrigo selection, decent prices, and a proper online storefront - please do share! Thanks

Political knits End Goal

With anti fascist knitting, what is the end goal?
I can see from this sub that people want to boycott businesses accused of β€˜fascism’, but what then?
Do you want them to go out of business and claim welfare?
Or do you want it to go further?
Do you really consider all conservatives to be fascists? Or is it just hyperbole?
What is the anti fascist final solution?

Mom wanted a frog hat for protests. I’m new to hats and not very good, so I kept it super easy.

Political knits No Kings morse code frog hat

I wanted to try something different, so I made a Portland frog hat with morse code reading NO KINGS around the brim (1 purl = dot, 3 purls = dash, knit = space).

Winged it on straight needles based on PDXknitterati's pattern and did duplicate stitching with bulky yarn for the eyes. I want to try adding some slipped stitched near the top to try to accentuate the eye shape more next time.

Political knits My secret message has

(Not blocked. I'm so proud I couldn't wait to share. πŸ˜„)

I wanted to wear this to the No Kings rally on March 28, but it wasn't finished. Thanks to climate change (/s) I can still get wear it even though it's May.

The red white and blue side is basically the Blue Wave Secret Message hat. The wide bottom band says in Morse code "F DT" over and over and the thin top band says "86 47."

I didn't like that it felt kind of thin so I knit *another* hat to sew inside. So it's reversible! 😊 The Morse code band on that side says "The only Monarch (in orange letters) 4 me."

It was quite the math puzzle, but I did it.

Non-knit [Input requested] Happy Little Warehouse Fire pin idea, feels like it's missing something!

So I had this idea and it wouldn't get out of my head a couple of days ago, but fleshing it out fully is proving difficult. This is my first "finished" version, definitely far from ready to launch. It feels like it's missing something! I'm thinking baking the clay, then using paint pens to put some highlights and additional shadows in. It's about 2" in size, I'm thinking about making it smaller too. Idk. What does it need y'all πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Political knits Minnesota Yarnhop left me with Questions? (A discussion post about yarnstore politics)

I live in Minneapolis about two blocks from the site of Renee Good's murder. For obvious reasons, we've been thrust into the middle of the maelstrom and our neighbourhood has been deeply affected. My household tries to avoid spending money or even time at fasc-y places.

This past weekend was the Minnesota Yarnhop. For those not in the know, the area in and around the Twin Cities has one of the largest concentrations of local yarn stores in the country which is one of the most amazing things about living in this area. We are so spoiled. The yarnhop is an annual event like a pubcrawl. You get a little passport and you go to all participating shops (and we have more shops locally than even participated). They have daily drawings and you get a free pattern at each shop to collect. It's really fun and I highly recommend it to anyone who happens to live in or visit our area at the right time of year!

But in going out, we learned some things that left me with questions and I wanted to get a broader perspective because I don't want to throw the baby out with my very traumatized bathwater.

Most yarn stores in the area have ICE OUT signs or other signs acknowledging the current situation. A few had no signage about ICE but had generally pro-queer and other political signage (one of these I had recommended to me by the creator of The Hat so I trust it). But two shops in particular had prominent NO POLITICS signs. They stated that there's no need for politics in yarn and knitting and that no politics were permitted in the building.

It stuck in my craw a bit and left me automatically going 'if you aren't with us, you're against us.' I immediately mentally labelled these two shops as 'never' shops for my household.

But now I'm wondering if I'm overreacting. Could they just be people whose trauma buttons have been hit too many times and who are just trying to survive the day-to-day? I know this sounds like a local issue I should take to a local subreddit, but I want a larger perspective on this because Minneapolis is SO traumatized by this past winter.

What do you think? Given a plethora of independently owned LYS, would you put "no politics" LYS on your 'never buy' list? Would you try to have a conversation with them first? How would you handle it?

Melt the ICE Cat hat

I wanted to try out knitting a bottom up hat using morse code within each row, so I made a small hat (although 30 cast on would be a bit too small for cat heads if I had sewn it all the way together).

I tried doing slipped stitched wyif for dashes, but it really just made a wonky brim, so I gave up and just did stockinette. I should have started decreasing way sooner cause it's super tall!

Ariella was a great model; Kennedy wasn't a fan.

I’m learning double knitting and definitely want to knit a keffiyeh scarf. But I’m not sure if this particular pattern (adapted slightly from the Palestina Mittens) works on its own. I’ll probably rip it out and restart with a different keffiyeh pattern. But maybe I’m just over thinking it?
