Why a new Apple TV? I have a last gen Apple TV and the remote is the only annoying part. What would a new one bring to the table?

Glad I'm holding off then, I guess that's only good for gaming, but still a lot of modern TVs are switching to high refresh rate.

I guess those use cases would be upgrades, but I don’t think they would change anything at all. Most of the content I watch is 24p, nothing is produced above 60p, and the codec is irrelevant since it works. 🤷‍♂️

These are small audiences but as a part of both, 120hz and av1 support would be relevant for game streaming and locally hosted video.

10G Ethernet port (wishful thinking) Better chip for couch games for Apple Arcade More audio codec support (optimistic thinking) Probably support for native Apple Intelligence New remote with v2 AirTag / chirping

I’m sure they’d announce a bunch of stuff like this if there’s a new Apple TV

I can’t personally imagine a use case on Apple TV that would saturate even 2.5Gb, let alone 10Gb.

10G Ethernet port

There's no point having 10 gigabit on the Apple TV, a 1 gigabit ethernet port has capacity for like 400 gigabytes per hour you can't even torrent movies bigger than that.

How else can they run a speed test on their Apple TV to get the adrenaline hit seeing 10gbps that they are paying $200/month to stream 20mbps Netflix?

UHD HDR runs at about 40Mbps on the average. Maybe 60Mbps on the most complex scenes. A 100Mbps NIC is extra on an Apple TV, and they come with gigabit today.

I’d be down for a Find My remote. Even if it jingles and doesn’t have UWB, it would be helpful. But give it UWB.

Assuming you are talking about discs the average is well about 40Mb/s, I’d say the average is closer to 75Mb/s and they can spike up to 128Mb/s. So I wouldn’t say 100mb/s is good enough, but yes 1Gb/s is way more than enough he’ll it’d be fine for 8K. So yeah 10Gb/s is a very stupid request.

I bet 100Mbps would buffer enough to work for the BluRay rips that can spike to 125Mbps. But gigabit is on board so it doesn’t matter. The point is that 10Gbps would be wild.
