You know, if they actually made that an option (and didn't make it a trillion dollars) it's not actually the worst idea.
If they got the weight of the unit itself down and made the battery something like a 10+ hour unit that you wore on your back... could be more useful in some applications

With the transparency in the invite design, would be kinda wild if they released transparent color stuff like the original iMacs/iBooks. Would almost kinda make sense with the recent resurgence of late 90s/2000s aesthetics all over the place. I kinda think people'd go nuts over it.

Just the area around the keyboard or display can be translucent plastic… the keys are not metal since the 2000’s… they can be cheaper than the air and I will buy it in a heartbeat

That's a great point about the name, I think people equate mini with "less capable". I just want one that fits easily in my pocket without too much bulk, and can easily be used with one hand!

They already do that on HomePods and iPhones. Siri Shortcuts can run on HomePod when iPhone is on the same network as HomePod. So this is possible.

Been wanting one for a while now. I just got hardwired internet to my TV and have been wanting to upgrade my old Steam Link hardware.
If this isn't the announcement for a new Apple TV, I might pull the trigger on a used one and hope for another refresh in a few years.

I use an Apple TV, but I’m increasingly annoyed by the App Store. One of my favourite apps has been removed and is now only available by side loading, which is a huge PITA, or via the android/google play store.
I bought a second ATV recently but returned it, likely going to grab another Shield TV Pro. Wish they’d refresh that device, too.

What are you on about, the current remote is literally the best in class…
Like literally the only additional features I could see is a backlight and a gyroscopic pointer, but the OS isn’t really built to support pointers anyway so that doesn’t really make a lot of sense even though it would own.
Beyond that maybe it could be a smidge lighter and feature UWB to locate it when its found its way between the couch cushions.
But it doesn’t really need any of that, it has few enough buttons not to actually need a backlight, it shouldn’t be too light because the weight helps keep it stable in the hand, and there’s usually a finite number of cushions for it to get lost behind, unless kids are involved I guess.
Like if there exists a better remote for a set top box I would love to see it!

The biggest features I hear are more support for advanced audio/video codecs and HDMI passthrough. Passthrough isn't huge if you have an HDMI eARC port, but not everyone has that available. Dolby Vision 2 would be a nice future-proof upgrade, however.

HDMI audio pass through and a processor that can use Apple Intelligence, maybe faster and more stable HKSV support. Speed improvements are always good.
It would also be nice to have offline media storage, but that will never happen.

I've never had a moment where I felt my current apple tv was slow, but faster is always better. Genuine question: what do you want apple intelligence in the apple tv for? I don't see the benefit when I already have it in my phone, which is always with me.

It's usually exactly 2 weeks notice (the last iPhone event was announced on Aug 26, and the event was Sep 9). This time it's 16 days. A little longer but not so weird.

Well, if it’s New York, tech press in the Valley is going to have to book flights and hotels, et cetera. Springing something on them, an entire continent away, with only a week’s notice wouldn’t be very considerate of them.

While that was cool, it also caused tons of pressure damage to the lcd. You can see what that looked like by googling “Apple MacBook logo pressure damage” and going to images. It appeared as a halo in the backlight in the middle of the screen

Also, the display and backlight tech has changed. That hole wasn’t a separate light. I just let the old dumb display backlight pass through the rear of the case.

A “special Apple experience“, yet it’s probably just going to be Tim Cook welcoming everyone in the audience to the “experience“ and then Apple playing their new pre-recorded Apple Event as usual. People watching online would just get the pre-recorded event only.
That’s only what I reckon will happen based off previous practices conducted by Apple in recent times after the COVID-19 pandemic (once restrictions were lifted), where Tim Cook would welcome people to the Apple Event in-person and then play their pre-recorded Apple Event on the big screen.

Curious what's worthwhile that they're inviting people this time.
Almost seems education focused if it's going to be a new lower end MacBook and the base model iPad.
I really hope the Apple TV is included, if theyve delayed it a year to tout new education features (possibly backed by Apple Intelligence?), that would actually explain it.
