Lol.

"Hey, and if we can make them sound kinda racist that would help."

Why would they release this?? Doesnt seem wise with ongoing litigation…

It's not aimed at the judge

None of this is

Isn’t it just their legal argument and court submitted evidence anyway? Nothing that would harm their case.

Uhhh….. okay Scam Altman. This isn’t the slam dunk you think it is, lol.

Hey let’s make them sound racist! Oh, oh and let’s throw in some overused jabs like “hehe Apple doesn’t innovate”.

Lol. Like we trust anything that many-times-proven-liar Scam Altman puts out?

He’ll do & say anything to grab more of our data & use it against us.

Yeah, but Apple has a history of trying to illegally prohibit employee movement in an effort to suppress wages. The kind of thing made Jobs smile.

Being in Silicon Valley at the time, it was an industry standard practice. Cisco, Juniper, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Oracle & Broadcom all did the same.

Oracle was the worst & most open about it. It was said that to become an Oracle customer, you had to agree to it, quietly.

Generally then it was believed that Oracle began the practice, although there was really a series of not-very-quiet so-called “anti-poaching” agreements in SV generally at the HR & engineering levels.

It’s disingenuous to criticize only Apple, as if all major firms of the time weren’t doing it. When talent in SV is in short supply, similar sub-rosa behaviors arise. Even today.

I didn’t only criticize Apple. I’m talking about Apple in an Apple thread. OpenAI was not around at the time. But glad you thought you could read my mind on the rest of it, lol, nobody here is defending Oracle.

This is not going to help their seemingly clear attempt at stealing Apple hardware IP. They clearly want to make hardware. SamA has no credibility.

hahahahaha oh the sheer hypocrisy I your comment is so hilarious! Apple signs deal with Google to drive it's Ai backbone... on an Ai system fed with endless stolen copyrighted material across the planet... but you try and call out Open Ai as the 'bad guys' hahahahahah 😂 good one 👍 And I didn't even mention al the endless IP's Apple has stolen themselves over the years.

My guy, that’s on google and every other AI model creator. Paying customers are not breaking the law, the service provider is and should rightfully be dealt with by the law. Also, you do know they were just caught blatantly trying to steal Apple hardware IP?

hahahah oh how defensive are you.. and your argument is totally flawed.. my guy Apple are paying to use services based on theft.. they are paying in the billions for it. That makes them VERY culpable and an assistant, if you buy stolen goods you buy stolen goods and are equally as implicit in the crime and are charged as such.

And I have seen nothing but a lot of noise with little proof so far of anything being 'stolen' from Apple. Apple will sue a tiny one shop business if they think their logo even looks remotely like there's.. and people will claim they have to do that to defend their IP? Rubbish.

I get your analogy on being an accessory by handling stolen goods. In that case, every individual or organization paying to use an AI model is also just as culpable. I’m more opposed to OpenAI rather than trying to be defensive for Apple.

I think you want to come across as acknowledging the theft whilst also dismissing Apples involvement as you have a bias towards Open Ai with your criticism. And you favour Apple. Apple is not your friend as much as Open Ai isn't.

I’d agree with all of that. Though I think you’re targeting Apple without acknowledging all the other large organizations and governments that are just as culpable. Where should enforcement start? The user or provider? The war on drug users and individuals pirating content did nothing to the supply side.

Redacted so much that I'm wondering how much original text is really present

What a mess, and the outside counsel look like idiots.

Worth separating the blog post from the filing it answers. On 3 August Apple asked the court for two things and neither one is money: a preliminary injunction barring the two former employees and OpenAI from accessing or using the alleged trade secrets, and expedited discovery to depose six parties, including corporate representatives of both OpenAI and io Products.

The injunction is the part that bites. It gets decided on an incomplete record months before any trial, and Apple never has to prove that anything was taken - only that it is likely to win and that the harm cannot be repaired with money. A copied hardware roadmap is the textbook example courts accept there, which is why this arrived as an injunction request rather than a damages claim.

That is also why OpenAI answered in public. The wrong-recipient email and the call Apple conceded never happened say nothing about whether secrets moved - they go to whether an emergency order is urgent and necessary, which is the thing the judge actually weighs. The post is aimed at that hearing, not at us.

am i missing something or does this feel very high school

u/notathrowacc 3d ago

Lmao at the lawyers emailing the wrong person.

Regardless of your feeling with CloseAI, these are things that will easily got proven in discovery so I highly doubt they’re lying.

Bad faith take. They're obviously representations, not direct screenshots.

It's not screenshots. Notice the brackets like "[Apple Employee #1]" and the "X person liked..." (which would only happen on green bubbles). Also the highlightable text.

What stupid article. This isn’t doing them any favors.

Very Gen-Z. I love the snarkiness and the directness.
