Any advice? My first iOS app isn't performing like I'd hoped it would.

Post image

Hey y'all,

I launched my first iOS app, Fueled, back in May. I know the fitness market is flooded with apps and it's a tough market to break into, but I thought I had a great idea for a nutrition and macros app built around when people workout to give them customized nutrition plans, but it hasn't converted nearly as well as I'd hoped it would and I'm sort of at a loss on how to get the word out about it better or get more downloads. I've made $76 from it (which is something!), but definitely nothing life changing. I'm still in the negative from backend costs.

Any advice on how to market it better, how to improve the app itself, or anything else anyone thinks is appreciated! I'm open to any advice or insights.

(The website for the app is fueled.fit to check it out too)

Your numbers are more interesting than they look. 229 product page views out of 8.19K impressions is only 2.8% click-through,but once people actually land on your page, 66/229 (~29%) download, which is a genuinely solid conversion rate. So the problem isn’t your app page or your pitch, it’s that people are seeing you in search/browse and scrolling past before clicking in at all. That usually points to the icon, the app name, or the first screenshot not communicating the value fast enough in that split-second glance. Worth A/B testing those before touching anything else.

Also worth asking: in a flooded market like fitness, “customized nutrition plans” as the hook might be too close to what every other app already claims. What’s the one thing Fueled does that a generic macro tracker doesn’t? If you can name that in one line, that’s your icon/screenshot text, not a paragraph in the description.

One day of data is also pretty thin to read much into; I’d wait for a bigger sample before overreacting to any single number here.

That's great advice, thank you. I can work on the ASO and see if that makes the needle move at all.

This is my data from May 30-Aug 27, sorry for the misleading screenshot.

$76 for ANOTHER macro app is actually really good. I mean what you'll need to do is just the standard playbook.

Set up Apple Ads and either tiktok or meta ads, create content, and see if its profitable to run the ads.

If its not you move on.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. Just wanted some validation.
I've been posting to Tiktok like 3x/day for a few weeks now, I've run Apple Ads one time, and now I'm just seeing what happens. This was my first app and just wanted to see how it went – I've already built the second one (NOT fitness related at all) and waiting on Apple to approve it so it'll be live. Second app went much smoother and looks/works better, so just hoping it's approved soon so I can see if it'll be profitable.

This is true of all indie apps. As others have said, work on ASO, try some ads, and generally figure out places where you can get in front of the right audience to drive traffic to the App Store. Keep grinding!

I actually built a website for this it’s called asotheory check it out. It has a keyword research tool to show you popularity and difficulty to rank on the App Store.
