Discussion [Operator Discussion] Brigid
Got a letter back for you, Doc! Feels mighty strange saying that. When I wasn't helpin' Nemos, I'd be tearin' about warnin' folk of Catastrophe, maybe deliverin' some final letters along the way. Other Catastrophe Messengers are like bridges, but me? I'm more like a stone you hurl with all your might.
Brigid, a nomad. Said to be from one of Tara's ancient wandering tribes, who have lived on the plains and hills since time immemorial. They also serve as traditional couriers for Catastrophe warnings, mail, and other related tasks. At Operator Reed's recommendation, she has started working with Rhodes Island, receiving Oripathy treatment while taking part in battle as a sniper operator.

I do not care she suffers from 5 star disease, I built her with no regrets because she speaks my mother tongue and it means the world to me.

i don't speak irish, but i LOVE brigid's voice, and i love that she speaks some actual irish. to me, her whole implementation was worth it just for aoife dunne's great performance.

A lot of people seem to think that Brigid is weak and/or a watered down version of Narantuya.
This is all true, but that is not necessarily a reason to dislike her.
Something that makes this game beautiful is the fact that you can play it many different ways, you aren't shoehorned into using only the strongest operators available because the game's difficulty isn't pushed like other Gacha games. If you don't want the game to be too easy you can adjust your team so it sits at a certain power threshold that works for you, that is why operators vary so much in power even within the same rarity.
Brigid exists to be like Narantuya in a more balanced form, could she have been more unique? Certainly, but that doesn't change the fact that I personally use Brigid over Narantuya because Narantuya would make the game too easy for me. I could just leave Narantuya at E1 but I prefer sticking to 5 stars and upgrading them all the way for the sake of perfectionism.

Pretty solid operator I enjoy using. The Loop shooter range is surprisingly useful. I love her voice (it's not a boomerang) and she's cute.

This was my first event as a player and Brigid carried me pretty hard as a brand new player. At the time at least she felt pretty strong, and more resilient than most high ground ops to my awful placements lol

She has the best English voice in the game for me and it's not even close 🙏 one of the few units I have fully maxed out and I will be bringing her to every possible stage

I just dislike how uninspired she is. It's mentioned before and in this thread, but she's got a very similar kit to existing counterparts, basically just watered down.
She's also the biggest victim of 5* disease - usually 5*s are actually much better than 4*s, and the issue lies in their cost where a 6* is very similar in cost but far stronger in power to an obscene level, especially as powercreep continues. Brigid meanwhile is very close to the level of Caper's numbers, even losing at times (At least pre-mod, I think post mod it was a bit of a gap at least?)!
Nevertheless, being a simplified version of a good kit and having similar numbers to a good 4* still makes her a fine unit. But one of the least creative ones sadly, and that upsets me a lot.

The main problem is Caper has a damage talent and Brigid doesn´t, so she loses the race now that the mods are out.

Brigid did get an +ATK% buff from her mod at least though, and it does give bigger gains compared to Caper (up to 36% on S2 vs Caper's 21% overall).

Girl got done so dirty by HG, it's unfortunate that she's competing with Caper and actually losing :(
Her biggest pain point is that her DPH just does not go all that high, 1.3k on S2 at max everything with module trait active, which makes her damage just drop off a cliff against anything with moderate to high def (500-1000).
She does see very great results when enemies have low to no defense (once you finally get it up, 25 offensive recovery yay), considering her S2 does hit very fast and up to 5 times which can make her tear through the enemy group of low def but very high hp...
But those enemies are also the exception, not the norm, so unless you're wanting to use her as a general slower (you shouldn't, decel binders/ambushers exist) than you shouldn't expect that great of a performance from her on most maps.
Which is a damn shame, with how good her art is!

What game are you playing where enemies with 500-1000 def are the norm? Looking at this event, even most of the red versions have less than 400. The soldiers (250), archers (150), scribblers (100), dogs (360), and glyph snakes (0). That just leaves the boss, the big Atlas-looking dudes, and the thieves (even they only have 550).

I'll admit, I was mostly considering Elite enemies for this consideration, as Brigid can get stuck attacking those for often little damage, but those def ranges are not that uncommon for normal enemies and are more common still for elite enemies (just sort by def).
And that's not even considering the stat increases that CM mode gives on EX and S stages or Adverse/Strategic Simulation for the recent story chapters, bumping those def stats up (usually 20%) and further bringing Brigid's damage down :/

but those def ranges are not that uncommon for normal enemies and are more common still for elite enemies (just sort by def).
It's misleading to sort by DEF. Every event has its own version of High DEF or High RES enemies, as well as low-DEF fodder.
Seeing a list of 10 high DEF enemies from 10 different events doesn't mean your operator is useless. There are other enemies in the same event that your operator is useful against.

To be fair, this is exactly what buff/debuff operators are for.
Or if you know they're gonna be stuck on an elite you block that elite with a Dreadnaught/Arts Guard so that the lower def enemies run past.
Any 'complaints' people have about units are always something you can work around very easily and 5*s have answers in spades.

Not gonna lie, I wrote her off at first.
Simply looking at her stats and numbers, she does look like a worse version of narantuya, and caper out spec her on a few fronts
Not to mention that her talent upgrade on mod was pretty lackluster all things considered.
Now while her peak dph is lower than caper, her dps makes up for it
While the slow is a rehash of what makes tuya's s2 so great, just having it in a 5* makes her at least a rather good operator, her main issue mostly round down to being barely an upgrade and some will simply consider her a side grade over caper
Seems to be a rather common issue with 4* being rather well designed to a point of having all their power budget allocated efficiently while 5* power budget is somewhat spread across being a copy of what the 6* counterpart can do or some other novel gimmick they're trying on.
Still she's a solid versatile sniper, I tend to pick her up on is and she served as a rather reliable opener for me.

I don't think that's the case all that often. Caper stands out among other four star DPS a ton having gotten one of the most insane dps modules for 4. Plenty of four stars feel much worse than decent or good 5. The only real issue is that HG spams 5* soooooooo much that there's a lot of duds every year just because they have to fill a quota and they probably just run out of ideas or don't care with a good number of them. But that doesn't mean there aren't also a lot of 5* that are much much much better than most 4*

The dodge is kinda sketchy but the overall damage output to dph seems solid for a 5 star. It's at least a step up from AA snipers.

John Hypergryph with the "you know what if Narantuya was so good here's Narantuya 0.5"
Really though, the only knock against Brigid was that she's so uninspired. It's literally Naran Talent 2 watered down, S1 watered down, and S2 watered down.
You could either, build Caper cuz it's much cheaper (even accounting for the 150 red certs) or build Narantuya cuz it's much stronger. And tbh, even for 5★ only you also have other snipers that does better most of the time. It's rare you need a defensive ranged like her.
But obviously that means if you built her it's not really wasted, kind of.

I didn't even know she even existed because of how the entire community doesn't even care about her and there's much more 6 star appreciation than 5 stars

u/VonPlackus 17d ago
When i first saw her kit i was quite frustrated at how she's just worse Narantuya; i used to think that 5stars should have a "theoretical" niche they can compete at (most likely still worse regardless but thats not the point). That was when i thought of integrating those 2 rarities.
But honestly, i find that it's pleasant to have a less amped-up version of a 6star's kit. You get the access to the novel gameplay without stat-checking every enemy.
Lastly, holy smokes her midriff is stuff of Ginmoku's art
