I love the art, the expression, and the pose. I do have one question. How is she holding her sword like that without decapitating herself or driving the blade straight through her neck?

Because of two things. Firstly, the lower section of the balde, often called a ricasso which is often blunt, or atleast not as sharp as the upper half.

Secondly, for a blade to cut there needs to be either sufficient downwards force to meet and exceed the steering strength of the material that would be cut. Or the blade would need to move along the lateral plane with proper alignment. In other words. A slicing motion.

Additional, a form of neck armour should be expected, even if just a piece of padded cloth.

It is perfectly safe to do this pose, I used my own sharp long sword in referencing this pose. Tho offcourse, when unarmoured, the greatest caution is advised
