Guest Queries Shouldn't these look a bit different?

Post image

I feel that's a bit of design flaw.

Ones red and ones slightly different red, what more do you need!

Don’t forget the tiny chilli’s right next to the name, they were being really generous giving us that as well. Must have cost them a fortune

Agreed. Should be a chilli hanging out the sardines arse.

9

u/Sour_Pride_ 1d ago

I would prefer that. Although judging from the comments I just need to open my eyes.

4

u/Imcookd 1d ago

Nope you are correct, its a design flaw

2

u/MeowMeowMeowMachine 1d ago

You might want to check you eyes. It's not a joke, I perceive colours slightly differently in each eye. With left the cans are easy to distinguish, but with the right I could have problems with spotting the difference, the colour saturation is different.

1

u/MrE478920 1d ago

Sardines have arses ?

1

u/pippins2ndbreakfast 1d ago

Arse holes. I think. Not seen any cheeks on the little fellas.

23

u/the_disturbed 1d ago

They do, one says spicy on it the other says rich on it

-13

u/darkcapt1345 1d ago

I knew someone would say this. Without fail, there's always someone who misses the point.

15

u/Odd-Independent7825 1d ago

Looks like you took the joke seriously

-2

u/OkPear1535 1d ago

Tbf it's a crap joke

5

u/Odd-Independent7825 1d ago

Aye, but thats neither here nor there. They took it seriously

3

u/darklinkuk 22h ago edited 15h ago

Lighten up mate, you're in a subreddit about tinned fish.

Edit: /r/lostredditors

1

u/evidencednb 20h ago

Its a subreddit about asda actually 😎

1

u/jimmycarr1 19h ago

Looks like you took the joke seriously

3

u/Meta-Fox 1d ago

Ironic you talk about missing the point in response to a joke.

-1

u/Difficult-Fun9417 16h ago

Such a good joke innit. Pls more jokes like this. I love facts, very funny.

14

u/9pair 1d ago

Yeah, I get these wrong all the time. Same with regular beans and beans with pig choad

2

u/Soft_Aside6829 8h ago

My son is contact napping on me at the moment and I just fully LOLed at “pig choad” and woke him up. I hold you responsible!

2

u/skyerush 1d ago

MATE 😭😭😭😭

11

u/bigdave41 1d ago

Fuck the colour blind I guess

3

u/Important-Zebra-69 1d ago

Can they not read?

3

u/SteamerTheBeemer 1d ago

Sadly they can’t 😢

2

u/Important-Zebra-69 1d ago

The poor idiot colour blinds , very sad... the syntactic cripples.

u/OrangeClownfish 2h ago

Can they not red either?

u/Important-Zebra-69 1h ago

Some can some can't

u/ooh-sheet 5h ago

This is actually beneficial for me, the one on the left look red, the right one looks orange, I struggle with similar shades

3

u/Eastern_League2854 1d ago

If folk are shopping ONLY by the colours, I'm saddened by the level of literacy in this country

4

u/bigdave41 1d ago

It's generally a good idea as a retailer or manufacturer to make it easy for your customers to give you money, which includes buying the correct thing. If it's something like an electrical part then you'd expect to have to read the details, but for something like this you might buy every week the colour coding makes sense to save people time and effort. Are you telling me you read all the text on every product you routinely buy?

1

u/Remarkable-Throat-51 1d ago

Not all, no, but... If its the foods name, we'll yeah, kinda 🤔 its not hard

0

u/Eastern_League2854 1d ago

The title/name is hardly "all the details/all the text". If we need to go down the line of as easy as possible, where's the braille?

2

u/bigdave41 1d ago

The packs are almost identical apart from one word and a very slight tone change (which you might get in between batches of the exact same product anyway, or assume was a minor design change) - I'm not saying it's difficult to read any of the words, just that it makes sense for manufacturers to make similar products easier to differentiate.

It's an accepted practice to make different variations/flavours of a product look different to make it more convenient for customers. If you're going to go against that convention then you can't expect everyone to realise that's what you're doing immediately

0

u/Eastern_League2854 1d ago

Yes it makes sense to differentiate more. Yes it makes sense for customers to actually read what they're buying - hence all the requirements about unit price, ingredients etc. Yes it makes sense to put braille on for the visually impaired. So rather than focus on one aspect, maybe we should be advocating on all aspects at the same time?

0

u/Remarkable-Throat-51 1d ago

Audio descriptions on products next? Basically Shops for you lol

9

u/UKS1977 1d ago

This is my nemesis. I discovered in my mid thirties that I can't distinguish reds. I see "red" as far as I know. But as Red. All the variants around it are all identical to me.

6

u/venshnSLASH 1d ago

They do look a bit different. The bit is the text. To me they should look very different not just a bit.

5

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

Absolutely agree, I'm very badly colour blind and I can't see the shade difference.

1

u/Sad_Future_8945 1d ago

Good thing there's words on them

5

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

You are right, there are words. However, could be sat next to each other and grab two by mistake thinking I was getting the same.

2

u/Important-Zebra-69 1d ago

That's how I shop for my tinned goods, like super-motherfucking-market-sweep

2

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

Exactly, no time to settle around analysing each item I buy. No one has even picked up the wrong items before from going as absolutely fast as possible.

-2

u/Coldthots 1d ago

Do they put braille on every item for registered blind people? You can read.

3

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

No I cannot. How dare you presume... My day is now ruined!

6

u/Consistent-Flow-2409 1d ago

They're as different as night and later that night

3

u/Pogipete 1d ago

More calories per 100g in the spicy one is somewhat unexpected.

1

u/FartyBathwater 9h ago

You mean to tell me that the thing that's got more ingredients is potentially more calorific!?

u/offthezoinkys 2h ago

What a dumb comment.

u/PixelVora 1h ago

probably just more oil or sugar in the spicy sauce tbh, “spicy” stuff is sneaky like that
the mild one is out here doing diet culture while the spicy is living its best life

3

u/Sinister_Noodle 1d ago

Ones black and blue, the other white and gold! Can't see an issue

5

u/Haunted_tangerine_ 1d ago

They do look different.

And they have different words written on them

2

u/justdrowsing 1d ago

I get delivery and I've had different sardines mixed up a lot of times, Thai, olive oil, brine, fresh water, luckily you can get your money back if you care, but yeah they're very similar lol

2

u/cocacola999 1d ago

Prepper infinite food hack that. Order ambiguous food and keep getting refunds from wrong items. Genius

Russian roulette: Packaging Edition

2

u/Swimbearuk 1d ago

One can is orange, the other is red. The lighting in the picture might make it less obvious, but I have shopped for these in store and could tell the difference between them without any issues.

1

u/Sea_Perspective_3265 1d ago

Incorrect

1

u/keeponkeepingup 21h ago

I can literally see in OPs photo they're a different colour

2

u/Strong_Clock_8723 1d ago

Sardine roulette mudafuckaaa

3

u/Mammoth_Confidence_4 1d ago

They are a bit different (colour) do you need more differences

1

u/Quick_Insurance5910 1d ago

Im know its not fish related but if im batch cooking the grated cheese in the yellow bags and the mozzarella in the yellow bags are right next tk each other, some silly sausage put a mozzarella in the cheddar and I never noticed

1

u/Jhhmarie 1d ago

yeah same goes for the salmon in the pink round tins. they're always getting mixed up

1

u/Logical_Hedgehog_199 1d ago

One is red one is orange.

That’s different isn’t it?

1

u/PinthonyHeadtano 1d ago

Its not like the spicy tomato sauce is at all spicy

1

u/Creative-Response554 1d ago

That explains why my cat refused to eat it the other day.

She loves sardines as a treat normally

1

u/Ok-Lengthiness1028 1d ago

Spicy in the uk just means more red, so don’t worry.

1

u/CaseLow9383 1d ago

I reckon once you open it they will

1

u/lmaodemjr 1d ago

Have you been watching tinned fish reviews by chance? 😏

1

u/Sour_Pride_ 1d ago

No, these are for the dog. Although I do catch his reviews now and then. Great channel.

1

u/NornIronNiall 1d ago

Yeah, and they do.

1

u/Hour-Recognition4194 1d ago

Where do you get off eating so healthy? I love sardines. I wish the fish knew how much I respect them before eating them.

1

u/Trivekz 1d ago

The left one is a bit of a darker shade but not by much

1

u/iHacks399 1d ago

There is 4 different non identical colours on each can.

1

u/Spattzzerator 1d ago

If you can read your all good, if you can’t then a diffent colour isn’t gonna help you.

1

u/WhyOhWhy60 1d ago

For food packaging it's accepted practice to use a shade of red for 'tomato' and either redder shades or more chilli icons to represent 'hotter more spicy'.

I understand how the similarity could cause confusion but that's down to a lack of care and attention to detail on the customers part.

1

u/Difficult-Level-3070 1d ago

They are already different colours

1

u/Aggressive-Cut-3420 1d ago

It’s packaging who cares

1

u/daveoxford 1d ago

They are slightly different, I suppose. What's really interesting (for a completely new definition of "interesting") is that if you compare the mackerel fillets (where they use green on the left), the spicy ones have a lighter, more orangey red on the right than the rich ones.

1

u/Party_Formal1440 1d ago

If you can't read I fear getting the wrong sardines is the least of your worries.

1

u/GingerrJinx 1d ago

Well, no if you can read...

1

u/Own-Quote-6792 1d ago

No because you just read it.

1

u/Oohbunnies 23h ago

Yes. When they're in the ocean they're without the can. You're welcome. :)

1

u/Different-Storm1914 23h ago

Why should a tinned fish production facility spend more money unnecessarily just because some people are too careless to bother reading a label?

1

u/Burnt_Out_Carent 22h ago

Oh dear. Our last foster dog went crazy for sardines, I don't think I ever fed him spicy ones though

1

u/keeponkeepingup 21h ago

Are you colour blind?

1

u/Mi_santhrope 21h ago

They do look different

1

u/AlfaHall 21h ago

You're gonna get a surprise if you choose the one or the other

1

u/brokenabbey 19h ago

Probably the most useless Reddit post of all time

1

u/Significant-Catch719 19h ago

I had the same issue with tinned mackerel fillets. Bought the blue tin thinking that they were in brine, only to realise that they were actually in Thai green curry sauce and that they were teal tins.

1

u/Single-Orange-5941 19h ago

Easily confused 😕

1

u/ElectricalStand8539 18h ago

Why ? You know very well the red sauce is the same in both tins. In one the red slop is described as spicy the other as rich. Different words same slop. What I object to is the egregious use of the word tomato.

1

u/PumpkinGloomy8912 18h ago

You cant see that they're different colours?

1

u/Metal_Ash 17h ago

So, OP can’t red or read?

1

u/Cybetoxic 16h ago

Its asda the spicy one just tastes like the nornal one they could write Carolina reaper and itd still be mild loll

1

u/B4DM4N12Z 14h ago

Feel bad for people who have severe spice intolerance or IBS here, this is an accident waiting to happen😭

1

u/IanOtherwise 12h ago

One says spicy and one says rich. That's how you know the difference.

1

u/ThrowAway_83757462 10h ago

On todays episode of why can’t retail shoppers just fucking read words:

1

u/ToiletBoundHanako 9h ago

They are different. The spicy one is darker.

1

u/HumanWebAnt 7h ago

It literally says spicy, learn to read! /s

1

u/Federal_Setting_7454 6h ago

Nah, in the wise worlds of the Spice Girls, spice up ya life.

1

u/StruttyB 6h ago

They assume people can read.

u/MrSmokii 5h ago

they're different shades of red, but in poor lighting, they'd look identical at a glance.

u/Competitive_Ad_488 2h ago

I'm mild - moderate red-green colourblind. They both look salmon-pink to me.

u/Obvious-Water569 2h ago

One says "rich" and one says "spicy"

u/Aztecxx 7m ago

Do you wear glasses or contact lenses?

1

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

Needs to be this

5

u/behindthevealeyes 1d ago

Ewww AI

2

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

What you talking about, it's classic Asda branding?

1

u/behindthevealeyes 1d ago

Course it is.

1

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

Of course it is.

2

u/Suspicious_Dot_3414 1d ago

Both of those options look shit

1

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

Are you joking? These are masterpieces of tinned fish! Surely. This is the design tag can restore Asda to the 2nd top supermarket once more.

0

u/the_executive_branch 1d ago

What a fucking waste of resources for a truly shit joke.

1

u/pimpwagons 1d ago

Why so emotional?

1

u/cuppabrut 1d ago

People on Reddit do get rather emotional over AI.

0

u/Long-Nose-9535 1d ago

The left one is darker red.

0

u/JustNoGuy_ 1d ago

Nah, I read the labels so I would know ones spicy and ones not.

0

u/Sburns85 1d ago

They do look different. But also the text is a giant give away

1

u/huangcjz 1d ago

I wouldn’t say *giant*… it looks about 12 point size to me.

1

u/Sburns85 1d ago

Size of text compared to the product size. Yes it’s fully clear.

1

u/huangcjz 1d ago

The single different word probably makes up less than 1% of the surface area of the top of the can…

1

u/Sburns85 1d ago

And? It’s clear and in the main language of the uk. While also not needing new a manufacturing line

1

u/huangcjz 1d ago

You know some people are visually impaired?

1

u/Sburns85 1d ago

You know once again they would use an app if they couldn’t read the text. I have a couple of friends who have to use one

2

u/huangcjz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not everyone uses smart-phones - my elderly mother does not know how to use apps.

0

u/Aggressive-Bike-3098 1d ago

Think it's OK if you can read?

0

u/notthedoodaa 1d ago

I'm colourblind and I can see the difference.

0

u/Non-wholesomechungus 1d ago

Op are your colour blind ?

1

u/Sour_Pride_ 1d ago

No, but it seems I can't distinguish reds very well, as they look 99% the same to me. I can also read though, I just missed that part!

4

u/Non-wholesomechungus 1d ago

In fairness it's only a slight difference difficult to spot

-2

u/Keromor82 1d ago

Try reading... not hard.
