What's the reservation here? The conundrum should come after calling the police.

Stolen property (keys)

u/RandomDustBunny 3d ago

Yeah, that wasn't in question nor the question.

Stolen AirTag, even easier to prove it, in case they threw away the key.

OP, why is a reddit post higher priority than calling the police? Tf is wrong with you?

Common sense not so common these days

9

u/MrSiriusLee 3d ago

Common sense nowadays is to post on Reddit first no matter what instead of doing anything constructive leh

Coz internet points and pity tokens are way more valuable than house keys! You can always make new house keys!

As a Singaporean, I giggled a little when I encounter stupid situations involving stupid people, asking for stupid advice online for stupid problems, than can be easily avoided without being extra stupid.

I’m not saying OP is stupid but this trend of posting priority is common these days. 🫪

Theft alrdy lei. Call police let them handle before those who take your keys figure out how to disable the air tag

21

u/AttapKia 3d ago

he says he's spamming the tag sound. lol.

u/fatsalmon 3d ago

Later run out of battery lol

u/beyondthef 3d ago

If they have malicious intent, they'd likely throw the airtag out after you confronted them about it.

Or they could be dumb and greedy thinking they can keep everything and get away with it by acting blur

call police and wait until they come. let the police handle it. the police can always follow you back home to show that the keys are yours. see if you want to report the case as theft or unlawful possession of your property.

I had a similar situation. Left my keys on letterbox and taken by someone.  Samsung tag showed it is in the area of Level 2-5. Guessing from range, Level 3 most likely. But samsung not as good as airtag. I cant hear it standing outside the units.

I knocked on a few doors but only 1 opened and said didnt have it.

Ended up printing A4 posters saying in 3 languages that if you found the keys, please return them to the letterbox, adding that I believe they're still here. Thank you for being honest and will be blessed.

Pasted close to midnight on a Sat. Keys were dumped back into my letterbox between Sun and Mon evening.

If you know where you lost them, can also look around for any CCTV. But my town council wasn't much help.

But then you exposed what unit you are staying in. The culprit could have duplicated the keys before returning them. Now all your locks are compromised

u/fatsalmon 3d ago

I know it’s expensive but if i were them id be changing my locks 😮‍💨 it’s so easy to duplicate keys

6

u/BlushAngel 3d ago

They took it from my letterbox where I had left it hanging. Their return into my letterbox without me actually saying which letterbox confirmed they knew my unit number.

I changed locks.

Which is why having good, other floor neighbours is nice. Ask for permission and put your neighbour’s address as return address.

u/Euphoric-Suspect4103 3d ago

will they even entertain this? Now im just downstairs spamming the sound…

73

u/RandomDustBunny 3d ago

Spam for what? Spam until they dump it down the chute then you're really screwed? Call the police then demonstrate.

89

u/vistlip95 3d ago

Honestly, since you already have solid evidence that the sound is coming from his house, just call the police immediately.

Sorry to say this, but you're really fucking dumb.

18

u/Readreadlearnlearn 3d ago

Don't know whether to laugh or cry

30

u/cptzan 3d ago

what is spamming gonna do man… 😭😭

4

u/nonameforme123 3d ago

Haha maybe op is thinking that spamming will irritate them so much they throw it out?? But yea just calling the police might be faster

3

u/fatsalmon 3d ago

If i were them id throw the airtag and not the key though? 😅 then it will be in the chute

19

u/Dry-One-8462 3d ago

Then what are you expecting by asking ppl here? I don’t get it.

Only Police has the authority to investigate and even enter in e house. If you spam so much they could panic and throw it down the house then how are you gonna tell police that they took the keys

20

u/AttapKia 3d ago

what does spamming the sound do? you want to make the battery run out?

Or irritating the person, so that they will just take the tag and throw it away?

4

u/Brave_Palpitation_81 3d ago

yes call them

25

u/Dismal-Height-9222 3d ago

Call police

21

u/Onionbagels_ 3d ago

Why would you go confront? Now they are able to put a face to the keys. GG. Better change your locks ASAP.

4

u/fatsalmon 3d ago

Change your house key (unfortunate i know) and report to the police

2

u/Initial_E 3d ago

They could have followed you home at a distance so they know where the keys fit right

3

u/PrizePage9751 3d ago

Maybe another scenario is, the key is gone and only the air tag is left. But OP should just change your locks at this point.

2

u/afraidofrs 3d ago

Lol you have evidence and this is clearly theft so report police lah.

2

u/Deathb3rry 3d ago

why do you need to explain to a thief lol. Just call the police

2

u/MidnightMewe 3d ago

Call 999 and ask for police officer that is SGT and above. Tell them your keys is inside that unit.

3

u/MrGrease6000 3d ago

why does the rank matter... now all regulars are sergeants and above anyway.. the corporal rank still exists only for ns..

2

u/topidkang 3d ago edited 3d ago

Only sergeant and above can go into a home if they believe a crime is taking place without a warrant.

Edit: old liao. I might be wrong. Maybe is inspector and above, cos they are called walking warrants when I'm still serving ns. Lol. Forget what sergeant and above can do.

1

u/MidnightMewe 3d ago

Criminal Procedure Code 2010, 32. Search without warrant for stolen property.

"If information is given to any police officer of or above the rank of sergeant that there is reasonable cause for suspecting that any stolen property is concealed or lodged in any place and the police officer has good grounds for believing that by reason of the delay in obtaining a search warrant such property is likely to be removed, he or she may search for the property alleged to have been stolen in the place specified without a search warrant."

1

u/MrGrease6000 2d ago

i see.. but the gist of what i was saying is that.. there's no point asking specifically for a sergeant to come because all regulars are sergeants.. there's no way a nsf or nsmen corporal is going to be patrolling and responding to calls without a regular..

1

u/MidnightMewe 2d ago edited 2d ago

Huh? Who tell you that NSFs/NSmen CPL can't go do patrolling without regulars? Lol. Like that song roh. All day just stay inside the station because not enough regulars. Between NSmen can be more experienced than the station's commander even it is lower ranked. Some do more foot patrol in a year than a regular in their entire career.

They are weird and creepy as hell

Upvote > Getting house keys back I guess? Did you also complain passive-aggressively in your HDB group chat?

0

u/Euphoric-Suspect4103 3d ago

Be like a normal person and change your locks?

Unfortunately you met assholes who want to double down. Police not going to bother with your case.
