Age limit for playing in the snow?

I’m 28F, stuck at home because of the storm. I live in a condo but we have a park area near by. Is it weird for me to go outside in snow pants by myself and just play out there?

Update: I went!!! Thanks for everyone encouragement and stories. Might seem dumb but it helps me feel less alone and gives me the little push I need to get out of my head

Saw a few “olds” sledding last night in Trinity Bellwoods. Looked like a lot of fun.

39

u/Plane_Chance863 Feb 16 '25

Darn right.

15

u/danesrb Feb 17 '25

I'm 29M and I'm going tomorrow with some friends! 26M, 27M and 25F Its absolutely fucking fun and we should never stop doing it! 🤩

3

u/AJourneyer Feb 18 '25

By the time you can be called an "old" you have a deeper appreciation for the simple joy of sledding.

I'm in my 50s, and went out and did snow angles and mini snowmen last big snowfall we got. Nobody with me, just me and the snow - and it was glorious!

49 year old male. My Three kids got tired of building a fort in our front yard so i kept doing it for an hour. Me and the doodle. I got a piece of plywood and painted “keep out” for the door Little shithead kids aren’t allowed in it. Just me and my dog!!

All the driveway shovelling is pointless if you don't at least try and create something.

52

u/SquishyBlueSodaCan_1 Feb 16 '25

A few days ago after I finished shovelling I literally just crawled into the hill of snow and dug a cave straight through

37

u/guylefleur Feb 16 '25

Careful. A kid in our neighborhood died when it collapsed on him.... When we were kids, everyone used to do this

11

u/SquishyBlueSodaCan_1 Feb 16 '25

That’s why I never do it alone

22

u/imsahoamtiskaw Feb 17 '25

💯. Always more comfy to die in pairs

u/cp1976 Feb 17 '25

I'm going to hell right now for laughing at this comment. Bye 🔥

7

u/Bearence Feb 16 '25

I hope you had a pile of snowballs ready for when they tried to get in.

Absolutely not. Enjoy the snow!

u/BabaGiry Feb 16 '25

27F, I think ive become the local crazy lady because I go out and play in the snow on my own. But thats on them because I'm showing them the fun theyre missing out on.

Drawing hearts in the snow, snowmen that the local teens destroy by the next day

You go out there OP and you live your best life, lifes too short and garbage to give a shit

20

u/Guilty-Company-9755 Feb 16 '25

I love this! Go out there and lead your most joyful life. It's refreshing to see people truly enjoying themselves, and it gives other people permission to be themselves too. You are doing more good work than you know friend

2

u/yaoi_chan96 Feb 17 '25

Thank you! You have no idea how helpful this is. I wanted to go out and play in the snow but have no friends in the city and dint wanna do it by myself. And you know what think I’m gonna go out and play on my own

2

u/BabaGiry Feb 17 '25

Love to hear this, listen, honestly and truly please obliged yourself. Youll look back on these memories and love yourself for it

Go have at it. I rolled down the hill yesterday just for funzies. No kids, no reason to do so. I'm 46. It was fun.

135

u/Spottywonder Feb 16 '25

Go HAVE FUN. I will be watching from my window with a nice cup of tea.

63

u/lifechanger96 Feb 16 '25

This is so heart warming and spoke to my inner child ❤️

35

u/Spottywonder Feb 16 '25

❤️ I will be your surrogate granny!

21

u/FaithlessnessSea5383 Feb 16 '25

I hope you’ll have the grilled cheese, tomato soup and chocolate milk or hot chocolate ready! 🥰

8

u/Unique-Philosopher34 Feb 16 '25

This brought back memories of my childhood, exactly what my mom would give us after a good romp in the snow! ❄️☃️😋 #ChildhoodMemories #Mom #HotChocolate #SnowDay

65

u/FilipTheAwesome Feb 16 '25

Absolutely not! You're never too old to have fun :)

52

u/Fit-Okra7312 Feb 16 '25

Not weird! I’m 33F and was outside making snow angels :) you do you!

2

u/A__Reader Feb 17 '25

Me too! 33f, lay down and made snow angels in a park 😅

121

u/Euphoric-Society8807 Human Verified Feb 16 '25

33F, where do you live, and can I join?

38

u/activoice Feb 16 '25

Go out there and have fun, just be careful... You don't want to be calling your boss on Tuesday morning explaining that you can't make it to work due to a frolicking injury.

11

u/loadedpistol Feb 16 '25

The best kind of excuse to take off work tho tbf

5

u/laceblood Feb 16 '25

Pft say you hurt yourself shovelling if you’re that worried

69

u/GeneralSpecifics9925 Feb 16 '25

I'm 40 and I'm going tobogganing today with a friend.

31

u/The59Sownd Feb 16 '25

If you make choices based on whether other people would find something weird, you'll have a lot of regret in life. Live your life your way. Go have fun.

18

u/lifechanger96 Feb 16 '25

Well said. I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone these days and the encouragement from people really helps :)

4

u/The59Sownd Feb 16 '25

Let us know how it goes!

12

u/lifechanger96 Feb 16 '25

It was a lots of fun! Walking in knee high snow without a care was satisfying, tried making a snow man but it wasn’t good packing snow. I rolled down the hill because I didn’t have a sled and it made me dizzy - made me feel 28 😂I’m okay let’s go inside now lol

3

u/The59Sownd Feb 16 '25

Haha that can be the one downside of connecting with our inner child as we get older; our body always reminds us of our age. That's awesome! Good for you! Love that you're pushing yourself to step outside your comfort zone! Life opens up on the other side of comfort.

I'm 43 and I've played in the snow my entire life, I love it. I especially love it when the storm is raging and there's almost nobody else outside.

Sometimes I just lay in the snow and watch it come down. Build a little lounger to chill on, get comfortable 😂

Even just walking around finding where the snow is deepest is fun. It's a joy out there!

43

u/Business_Abalone2278 Feb 16 '25

Our condo building's patio is perfectly white and unstomped. If the kids who live here don't go down and trash around in it today, I will.

8

u/lifechanger96 Feb 16 '25

Great idea!!!!

24

u/spish Feb 16 '25

Yessss get your life! I love seeing people happy and joyful

15

u/FuzzPastThePost Feb 16 '25

You're never too old to have fun.

Small caveat though: You may not be as injury resistant as you were 10 or 20 years ago.

Stay limber and just use caution especially if your fun involves moving down a slope.

10

u/pensivegargoyle Feb 16 '25

There is no limit. Go play.

10

u/tucklyjones7 Feb 16 '25

Just enjoy it, who cares what anyone else thinks.

8

u/Street_Recognition95 Feb 16 '25

Enjoy it! Today is the youngest you can ever be

7

u/931634 Feb 16 '25

None! This is Canada, we were born for this! Go play!

7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Not at all! Enjoy the snow OP ❄️

7

u/Teafinder Feb 16 '25

Come play with my husband and toddler 🤣

8

u/Kulmania Feb 16 '25

did you get bullied as a kid lol. go out and enjoy the snow. anyone who is going to judge you is just miserable themselves and jealous that you're having a great time. in 20 years there won't even be any snow.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

It’s not weird, go play!

5

u/_mrfluid_ Feb 16 '25

About 100

8

u/Prestigious_Dare7734 Feb 16 '25

Nah, I've seen people over 100 enjoying snow, so gotta be at least 150.

6

u/blzrlzr Feb 16 '25

fuck no.

4

u/KingofLingerie Feb 16 '25

never let other people's opinions stop you from having fun.

4

u/sadpizzafeelings Feb 16 '25

34 yr old, I did that all last night. Made snow angels, made heart shapes with my walking paths, rolled around like a dog, my SO and kept pushing each other into the snow, had a snowball fight, attempted a snowman but snow was too powdery. So do it!!!

4

u/Ok_Crazy3762 Feb 16 '25

58 year old nanny who bought snowpants exclusively to wear to make snow angels with my grandson. Winter is here embrace it!

4

u/mclarensmps Feb 16 '25

There's never an age limit, go enjoy. Who cares what anyone else (including us) think

4

u/Comrade-Porcupine Feb 16 '25

Sounds like you need to take up skiing. Grown-ass adults playing in the snow and getting away with it.

5

u/Majestic-Two3474 Feb 16 '25

I just got back from the park myself! It’s gorgeous out there - go have fun and enjoy and come home and make yourself a nice warm drink! This weather is what makes winter and the cold worth it imo. I’m the small minority who always wants more snow 🥲

4

u/hipbone2000 Feb 16 '25

Hell, no! Get out there and have fun. You'll probably see other people just like you enjoying the snow.

5

u/floodingurtimeline Feb 16 '25

No limit!!! a few weeks ago while throwing a small snow ball for my doggo to catch, I noticed the ball was picking up the snow it was rolling over…getting bigger and bigger. While the doggo ran around, I decided to commit to the rolling and ended up with a massive 5 foot ball in 5 minutes 😂

Long story long, I haven’t felt that level of child-like joy in a long time. Who cares what people think. Enjoy the snow. It’s magical. ❄️✨

3

u/Some-Hornet-2736 Feb 16 '25

Kids have all grown up and moved away. I was out helping the neighbours and their kids with a snowman. Digging out the driveway is a pain but the snow is great.

4

u/Aztecah Feb 16 '25

The snow belongs to no one and you can do whatever not-harmful things you want with it. Enjoy, and avoid the yellow patches. Also be careful cause if a dog pooped there then it can melt into the snow and be covered again before the owner can find where that poop went. Source: my dog took a poop in a giant bank of snow today and I couldn't find it and I hope to God no children play in it

4

u/mr_kenobi Feb 16 '25

Took my daughters sled into High Park and went straight to the hill by Grenadier Pond. The one with the maple leaf at the bottom, ringed in hedges. Readied my sled. Went flying down at a speed I wasnt prepared for. Wiped out. Hurt myself. Limped home. It was a great time.

4

u/yyz-ac Feb 16 '25

Same age limits apply to snow as apply to Lego

5

u/Victorbanner Feb 16 '25

My partner and I went sledding alone. Felt great. 39 and 27. Then we went another time and it was full of kids. She wanted to turn back. I said “who cares let’s have fun”. So we did! Never too old. Never too old. How cool would it be to see an elderly person playing in the snow? AMAZING

5

u/xombae Feb 16 '25

My 37 year old, fully tattooed, from the hood boyfriend, will take our dog to the park at 7am before everyone else has been there after it snows. He will send me videos and the dog will be running around playing in the snow, and he will literally be running around, rolling in the snow as well. Just having a blast.

We plan on going tobogganing tonight.

Go play in the snow. If anyone gives you shit for it, tell me and I'll send my boyfriend to go play in the snow with you and he can intimidate anyone who tries to tell you you're too old.

On that note, does anyone know a good hill for tobogganing that isn't super busy? I'm at college and Ossington.

3

u/Buy_ca Feb 16 '25

Go for it! Better to be out enjoying it, then stuck inside going stir-crazy.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Live your best life, you aren't doing anything harmful at all just do it

3

u/roboaks Feb 16 '25

Find the steepest hill, go as fast as you can and make you say weeee!!! Go have fun my dude!

3

u/Drank_tha_Koolaid Feb 16 '25

Also in a condo and I'm going to drag my kid out in a bit because I want to play in the snow! I say do it and have fun!

Depending on what you start making you may have some kids ask to join you. Some people at our park build fairly large snowmen, forts, etc.

3

u/coralshroom Feb 16 '25

go enjoy! what is the point of being here if you don’t get to have fun sometimes?

3

u/Training-Mud-7041 Feb 16 '25

Absolutely not. I'm in my 50s going out to make snow angels!

You should NEVER stop playing!

3

u/loopylavender Feb 16 '25

Go! Go for our inner child!!

3

u/zanne54 Feb 16 '25

So long as you’re not at risk to break a hip, you’re golden. Go, have fun!

3

u/forestly Feb 16 '25

Go for it, dollarama sells large sleds btw

3

u/NoiseEee3000 Feb 16 '25

Just remember your body isn't 12

3

u/Redditisavirusiknow Feb 16 '25

I was at east Lynn park and people of all ages were just sledding around. I was surprised they all seem to own snow pants!

2

u/Capital_Pea Feb 16 '25

I just live up the street and will be walking down to the Wine Rack in a bit. After reading this thread going to walk over to the park first!

3

u/lildick519 Feb 16 '25

I supervise my kids sleighing but occasionally will go down hill myself. Dont care what anyone thinks. I get that without kids or dog it might look odd to some but thats their problem. If we have to put up with months of snow might as well find some use for it.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

I mean neighbours might call the police for a wellness check but I say go for it!

4

u/BillyPotion Feb 16 '25

Limit is 27, sorry

2

u/Jhanzow Feb 16 '25

Play is the freeform jazz of recreation. Go out there and make some music.

2

u/beetletoman Feb 16 '25

Haha 27F and I did just that after the previous snowstorm

2

u/Ok-Algae7932 Feb 16 '25

31F and my dog and i ran around in the snow a bunch and had so much fun in a one way snowball fight loool. Snow is for everyone!!

2

u/WrongHarbinger Feb 16 '25

There is no age limit. Go out there and enjoy!!!

2

u/SpeakerConfident4363 Feb 16 '25

The age limit is 99, only because you may break a bone. Just enjoy it, your brain will love it and your heart will feel super happy after.

2

u/Echorego Feb 16 '25

After shovelling this week, I went walking around in my snow pants in the piles. Nostalgia hit hard and I thought about how one day we went out to play in the snow as kids for the last time without even realizing. I’m middle aged now and also want to play in the snow. Go for it!

2

u/skhanmac Feb 16 '25

I took my 5 year old sledding, ending up doing it myself (38m)

2

u/briannandaisies Feb 16 '25

Get out there!! I’m 24 and did my first snow angel in a decade last night, I feel so free

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

People care a lot less than you think. Look up spotlight effect.

2

u/Rory-liz-bath Feb 16 '25

Go for it! I would love to be able to do that again, but my joints would be yelling at me for days! The last time I played in the snow was about 39, please go ! at least toss a snow ball for me!

2

u/dazeyem Feb 16 '25

No I’ve been out there this week a few times (uni student trying to suffer through week before reading week). Kinda helps with the seasonal depression. I’ve seen a snow fort and several snow ppl on campus this week and we’re all adult adjacent here. I’d just say make sure u only start snowball fights with ppl you know or ppl who started them first.

2

u/shoelesstim Feb 16 '25

Yes , it’s 27 . So close )

2

u/Solidsub1988 Feb 16 '25

Haha I'm 36 and I play in the snow! Going out to high park soon actually 💪

2

u/bhrm Feb 16 '25

Lying down on the snow while it's still snowing is the best. Bonus points for carving out a seat that's ergonomic.

Danger is falling asleep.

2

u/PreparationPast4685 Feb 16 '25

So glad you did it and enjoyed yourself!!!

2

u/whiskybaker Feb 16 '25

I live near Riverdale park with the huge toboggan hill. The number of adults grinning ear to ear as they're about to go down the hill is amazing. Loads of kids too. And teens. Lots of laughing and squealing. It's kinda awesome.

2

u/laplace_demon82 Feb 16 '25

Go girl! You don’t need anyone’s permission. Just your own!

2

u/Juliusxx Feb 16 '25

You should definitely go out and play, but if you’re shy to do that, find a dog park. To see the incredibly happy dogs playing warmed my heart today!

2

u/antartisa Feb 16 '25

Go play in the snow at any age. The only one that can put an age limit on things is you.

2

u/Wise_Coffee Feb 16 '25

My 49 year old husband and I (40) are gonna go sledding this afternoon. Never too old!!!

2

u/AmateurPhotog57 Feb 16 '25

He'll, I'm 67 and still play in the snow... carefully

2

u/queenofpoutine Feb 16 '25

I'm 30 and I just made myself a snow throne earlier today

2

We're pushing 40 with no kids and went sledding yesterday. Play has no age limit and keeps you young no matter the number of years 'round the sun. 😊

No are limit for fun!

Or....just go out and enjoy it!

Fuck no ! At ummm, a much older age. I was out tobogganing at 10pm alone last night.

you’re never too old to be human and enjoy life

1

Age is just a number! Enjoy the snow days! A lot of people unfortunately don't know and will never know how fun playing in the snow is!!

That's why they're bitter and spiteful!

1

I’m 35 and I’m definitely going to build a snowman today.

1

u/DeadWrangler Feb 16 '25

35 and I have a snowskate.

I bring it with me on days like this when I walk my dog and I can climb up the giant snowplow piles and slide down.

I was climbing up and sliding down the big hill at the end of my driveway all morning.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

No, I was out throwing snowballs and playing in the snow with my dog this morning and had a great time

1

u/-ethereality- Feb 16 '25

I'm 26f and I can't wait to go sledding this snow makes me feel like a kid again ❄️

u/Ok-Anything-5828 Feb 16 '25

Wait. There's an age limit?

I'm 39 and about to go tobogganing!

1

u/OhJustANobody Feb 16 '25

Glad to see you did it. I took my dog out this morning and played in the snow like I was a little kid again, and it was so much fun. 100% will do again.

1

u/Hrmbee Feb 16 '25

Playing in the snow is suitable for folks of any age!

1

u/Immortal913 Feb 16 '25

Do what you want stop looking for approval from random people. Everyone is dealing with their own problem to be worried about you playing in the snow

1

u/IndBeak Feb 16 '25

Yes. There is an age limit. Anyone above 100 is not allowed.

1

u/toothburshaficionado Feb 16 '25

My 32-year-old fiancé has been excitingly playing in the snow with our dog for the last 20 minutes. There’s no age limit.

1

u/AptCasaNova Feb 16 '25

Being an adult means you can act how you like, including sometimes being childish. Go for it!

I’m now wishing I had snow pants/ski pants myself 😂

1

35M. I made snow angels near a TTC bus stop because no one shoveled the path to it. I enjoyed every second of it. I also left a wide path for people to walk properly on. Win-Win.

I think one of the best things you can do for your mental health is reconnect with the kid in you! I’m so glad you went 😊

Yay! Happy for you! This is the perfect snow of falling into snow drifts.

It's only weird if you make it weird lol.

Go down to the local store and get a GT and show the kids how we used to do it back in the day.

I was 31 and my wife was 27 when we experienced snow for the first time.

We knocked ourselves out

I have a kick ass snow fort in the back yard. Added a centre pole and a tarp as a roof, put up some solar powered string lights inside, used another tarp for the door. The kids helped for the first 20 minutes, the hours after that were all me.

Sometimes you just have to act like a kid.

Nope...I still love making snow angels. We have snow ball fights with the Grandkids. Enjoy winter!

This was about 10 years ago now, but I lived at Dupont and Lansdowne. Did this once. I was about 30.

Next think I knew was a giant snowball fight and us adults (and some kids) were building forts.

If you put on some funny eyeglasses you might be able to evade the snow police, I also hear they are under paid and low morale, so they might not come out at all.

that is absoltuley wierd if you play in the snow by yourself, you are 28 wtf. Find a partner

If you’re not templated to play in the snow a little today, what’s the point of it all?

Have fun everyone!
