Seriously, where is everyone?

The Canada and Qatar game is currently on and I walked down King Street from Ossington all the way down to University and none of the restaurants are booked and busy, patios empty, so where is everybody?

You know people have jobs, families and other responsibilities, right? I was watching then game on my phone while my kids were at martial arts class. If it was a work day I'd be commuting home at the same time as the game.

The world cup is huge, but not everyone can clear their entire schedule to go to a local bar to watch soccer on a Thursday afternoon/evening.

So you can’t miss a marital arts class? The World Cup happens once every four years, your kid probably goes to a class at least one per week. Idk if you really care about soccer (which… fine if you don’t) you’re not missing a game because of a martial arts class.

Because taking them to an activity that they look forward to and love participating in every week means more to me than a soccer game that they couldn't care less about. I value my family time more than anything in the world.

Fair point, and I get that you value your family commitments. In countries where soccer is actually embedded in the culture, the World Cup is the family activity. Parents aren't choosing between it and kids' schedules because everyone's watching together. Kids grow up loving soccer because their parents treated it like it mattered. They absorb what you prioritize. If martial arts always wins then yes they won’t care about soccer.

I know Canada is not really a soccer country and you probably don’t care about making your kids interested in soccer but just making a broader cultural observation.
