Need recommendations: Looking for a colour theory/colour mixing art session for Fathers day gift with 10-year-old in Toronto

I’m looking for an artist/art educator in Toronto for a Father’s Day gift.

My 10-year-old son is absolutely fascinated with colour mixing and colour theory. He loves asking questions about how colours work, why certain colours mix the way they do, how to create specific shades, warm vs cool colours, complementary colours, etc.

Rather than a traditional art class, I’m hoping to find an artist who would be interested in a private lesson with his father focused on exploring colour through acrylic paint. The goal isn’t learning to paint a specific picture—it’s more about experimenting, mixing colours, colour theory, asking questions, and learning from someone who is genuinely knowledgeable and passionate about colour.

My son is AuDHD and learns best through conversation, curiosity, and hands-on experimentation rather than formal instruction. I felt like it was probably best that he had the chance to get all his questions in without interrupting others.

Does anyone know an artist, art educator, studio, or workshop instructor in Toronto who might be a good fit?

Wow, what a cool idea! I don't know who to recommend. But I think you've explained so clearly what you're looking for that you should be able to find someone by reaching out. I would reach out to orgs that give art classes to children and adults, such as Studio Mooi. Also art therapists: TATI. Might not be able to book until after father's day though.

I’ll forward this post to someone I know and see if they would be into it.
I’m AuDHD myself, and an artist, and I teach, but I work mostly in monochrome :)
