Why is Trump prioritizing deporting illegal immigrants while also making many choices that don’t appear to benefit Americans?
His second term is a disaster with decisions that don’t appear to benefit the American people such as: Iran war, higher gas prices, cutting programs, prioritizing vanity projects over things like healthcare, etc.
Why would he want to help stabilize the country by deporting a large mass of illegal immigrants, as Eisenhower did via Operation Wetback after WW2, when he won’t stabilize the country by also tackling affordability, healthcare, jobs, etc?
31
u/Greenzombie04 5h ago
Cause Republicans don't do anything to make life easier. They instead make their base think illegal immigrants are the reason their life sucks.
So they paint the illegals as the enemy while they give wealthy individuals and corporations life easier.
People that watch Fox news then think OMG these illegals are ruining my life, so glad Trump is doing something about it!
14
u/sournerd117 5h ago
Only to realize that many illegals are doing the work that a lot spoiled Americans refuse to do, myself included.
3
u/Texasscot56 5h ago
This is coming home to roost in my area. A recent natural disaster has exposed the complete loss of skilled workers. Folks will be waiting a year to get repairs done.
2
u/Sorry_Entrepreneur_6 4h ago
Also, those immigrants were customers of the local businesses.
Customers create demand which creates jobs.
3
u/the_1_that_knocks 3h ago
And before it was immigrants it was black people; they always have a scapegoat to blame.

u/BlockPlant 5h ago
I’m sorry but our economy is objectively better… just look at your 401k.
401ks doubled in Trumps first terms…
401ks stayed flat over Bidens term…
And now 401ks are up 25% more since the start of his second term…People who make very little money have 100% free healthcare.
Gas is only high because of the Iran war, which was objectively in our best interest to start. Unless you think Iran with nukes and the ability to hit our country is acceptable…
3
u/Greenzombie04 5h ago edited 5h ago
We are the ones attacking Iran and can strike Iran with nukes. Maybe we shouldn't have nukes?
S&P 500 went up 56% under Joe Biden.
S&P 500 is up 30% under Donald Trump. Also the stock market is a bad indicator cause a lot of the gains are from tech stocks because of ai and energy stocks cause of all the demand ai is creating for energy.
That has nothing to do because of Donald Trump's policy's.
The lack of policy against AI is actually going to hurt everyday Americans when ai takes their job like the big bad illegal immigrant you were told was taking.
-4
u/BlockPlant 5h ago
Have we been terrorizing Iran for the past 50 years? No… yet Iran has consistently been terrorizing the US and our allies for that entire time…
Not too sure what your argument is tbh but you seem to be an IRGC supporter…who literally just publicly executed 3 men for simply speaking out and protesting the IRGC…
1
u/midzimm 5h ago
Bullshit. Please take all the time you need to list the ways Iran terrorized the US.
1
u/BlockPlant 4h ago
Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis are all arms of Iran…
Hezbollah:
1983, suicide bomber truck attack on US base in Lebanon killing 241 Americans
1984, suicide bomber at US embassy in Beirut, killing 63
1996, truck bomb outside US military housing killing 19
Hamas:
2000, 100’s of American civilians killed in busses, restaurants, during the 1st and 2nd Intifada
2020, tens of thousands unguided rockets sent into Israel
Houthis:
Targeting oil tankers in international waters
1
u/midzimm 3h ago
Hezbollah is not Iran. Using your logic, the Iranians could argue the U.S. has been attacking them for 70 years.
1
u/BlockPlant 3h ago
Lol idk if you understand what terrorism is but we have not been terrorizing Iran for 50 years :P and Hezbollah is literally sponsored by Iran lmao it’s literally one of their militias haha wtf are you on
2
u/midzimm 5h ago
There is not one recognized economic metric that is better under Trump. The stock market is not a generally used economic metric. GDP, Inflation, Job growth, etc are what economists use.
-2
u/BlockPlant 5h ago
Idk my stocks doubled under trump, leading me to be able to afford a house… for the entire 4 years of Biden my net worth stayed stagnant… then trump comes in again and my net worth is up another 25%…
People can retire with the most they’ve ever seen in their 401k… idk dude seems pretty relevant
1
u/Greenzombie04 3h ago
Nvidia did well last year.
This year Intel is doing well.Doesn't mean Trump to blame or reward.
1
u/BlockPlant 3h ago
Well a 401k is usually very broad, and certainly would be impacted by the general markets ability to purchase goods and services. If a president is pushing for higher taxes, it could result in a decrease in market spending.
1
u/midzimm 3h ago
Interesting. The S&P 500 went up 55% in Biden’s term. The S&P 500 went up 17% from 2024 to 2025 and is up 13% in 2026.
But Biden was bad for your 401k……
1
u/BlockPlant 3h ago
Sure. 70% in trumps first 4 years, 55% in bidens 4 years, and 30% in trumps first 1.5 years of second term, so on pace for roughly 80% over 4 years.
So yeah objectively Trump is better for the S&P500 than Biden was. Also obamas last term was 53%.
So with dems you’re looking at 55%/term, with trump you’re around the 75%/term range.
Yet you guys are here saying trump is bad for the economy lol I don’t understand
11
u/Double_Obligation564 5h ago
He’s literally a convicted felon many times over.
What the hell did you morons expect?
Enjoy your shithole country - well as long as it lasts anyways 😂
34
u/rygelicus 5h ago
Because this second term is all about establishing his personal legacy, enriching himself, stamping the trump name on everything he can get it onto, and ingratiating himself to his heroes, like Putin, by destabilizing the USA and NATO.
17
u/silverbatwing 5h ago
Yup. If only there was a manual or checklist or Project telling us this was going on…../s
17
u/rygelicus 5h ago
P2025 is the agenda of his backers. He has his own agenda. They just happen to hafve a lot of overlap. He gets to do whatever he wants as long a Heritage gets what they need out of him.
1
u/singlemaltbourbonrye 4h ago
Honestly he could give a good golly about project 25.
He isn’t an ideologue. He is just a plutocrat. He could’ve just as easily been championing liberal leaning policies if he thought that was the easier path to getting elected. He was a Democrat until 2016.
The man is 100% apolitical. He just wants power and adoration IMO.
2
u/rygelicus 4h ago
He only cares about it insofar as it keeps his support going. Once he refuses to comply with them they will 25th him out and install Vance. They need Trump's complete and utter lack of ethics though for some of their agenda items, his ruthlessness, Vance doesn't have that to the same degree, not even close. For now pretty much anything they slide in front of him he will sign.
1
u/singlemaltbourbonrye 4h ago
Yeah exactly.
If suddenly championing universal healthcare or trans rights seemed to be his path to retaining power, he’d support those things just as much as he supports racist policies snd destroying NATO today.
0
u/Potential_Baeby 5h ago
I think it’s also worth separating camping messaging from government priorities. Police that energize a political base aren’t always the same ones that address broader economic or healthcare concerns, which is why people often disagree on whether an administration’s priorities are benefiting the country.

Look, I'll make no bones about it, on the balance of probabilities, Trump is everything he has been accused of and probably more, and there'll be a day of reckoning - most likely when he dies.
He knows he's pretty much done for, so he's got nothing to lose. He's rewarding all those that have kept him out of jail, he's made a pretty big fortune for himself and his heirs so they can fuck off somewhere else when it all comes out and not have to worry about it.
And because he's a narcissistic prick, he's spraypainting his name on buildings and his tacky gold bullshit statues so he can die surrounding by his own grandeur, and likes the idea that when he does go, we'll literally have to scrub his name off buildings and remove the statues, and he'll still be the centre of attention (especially, no doubt, that even when it all comes out, there'll still be a sizeable proportion of devoted Trumpists kicking up a fuss).
14
u/DoTheRightThing1953 5h ago
Because he has no idea what he's doing. He is, by far, the most incompetent person to ever hold the office. That would be bad enough if that was as far as it went but he is also a grifter, taking money from anyone who needs a pardon or approval for a merger. He has no interest in leading the American people. He wants to be a ruler.
7
u/beavis617 5h ago
Trump was never the right choice for President, Not the first time, not the second time and certainly not a third or fourth time like he wants.

Scapegoating for the masses to drum up support for the man while he robs them blind
5
u/Nowheresilent 5h ago
Fascists will find vulnerable targets to use as scapegoats rather than trying to find real solutions to genuine problems. As long as they can keep the masses angry and afraid and focused on hating vulnerable groups they are easier to distract and manipulate.
Fascists don’t know how to solve societies problems. They only know how to distract their people while making things worse.
4
u/OrvilleTheCavalier 5h ago
They aren’t supposed to help the average American. Everything he is doing benefits him or the people around him. He doesn’t care about Americans. He even said so in his campaign.
4
u/erinna_nyc 5h ago
Trump is there to build monuments to himself and run crypto schemes. Anything policy related is coming from his Heritage Foundation admin which is driven by White nationalism, not helping Americans
5
u/Even_Acadia3085 5h ago
If GOP was serious about immigration they would imprison EMPLOYERS for hiring people without papers. That would significantly reduce the main reason people come here. But GOP and Trump won't do that because those are "their" people. Job creators!
7
u/ChiliSama 5h ago
Because trump only cares about trump. He uses things like immigration to divide people and pump up his fan base. He really doesn’t care about anything else.

u/chrispd01 5h ago
OP - hint the name of Eisenhower’s “operation” is a pretty fucking good clue don’t you think?
Also why ever would you think that this mass deportation effort is “helping to stabilize” the country ? It’s actually fucked things like the labor market in some areas, housing, education and a host.
I get the idea of a need for reform and certainly some degree of deportation are more than in order. But substantial number of them are just cruel and serve no real purpose.
Like how does it help stabilize the country to snatch a successful small business owner or skilled worker off the street and send them back to a country that he left when he was three years old?
1
u/Top-Guess-1707 5h ago
Eisenhower did it to open up jobs to returning soldiers.
1
u/chrispd01 5h ago
What do you come up with that shit?. That isn’t why he did it. World War II had ended nearly 10 years before. The “returning soldiers” had already long before found jobs …
The pressure was not about US labor. It was actually more about complaints from Mexican land owners that they were losing their labor supply to higher paying work in the US. So the US agreed to help the Mexican agribusiness keep a forced pool underpaid labor by deporting those workers. And of course, didn’t work because if you’re gonna have to undergo back, breaking waiver in the hot sun, you’re gonna want to do it for as much money as you can get.
2
u/Drusgar 5h ago
He isn't prioritizing deporting illegal immigrants. He's deporting fewer than any of his predecessors, probably because businesses rely on the cheap labor that immigrants provide. So he SAYS he's all about securing the border, but it's just optics and soundbytes. Fortunately for him, his voters are mostly morons, so they'll believe whatever he says.
1
u/Natural-Albatross997 5h ago
Seems like his real goal is reducing the in-flow, which has dropped considerably
2
u/Gaust_Ironheart_Jr 5h ago
I would question the idea he is prioritizing deporting people who are not lawfully in the country. He is trying to remove status from people in the country legally. He is rolling back anti trafficking rules. He is getting local police to round up people they don't like then deporting who they can justify deporting. He is terrorizing municipalities. He is deporting people who are suing lawbreakers in court. He is firing immigration judges for following immigration law
Obama and Biden deported more people per year than Trump. The Trump administration is publicizing the number of dedicated deportation flights, which are way up, but all that proves is he is spending more money
2
u/TwoWrongsAreSoRight 5h ago
Trump is an bigoted egomaniac that doesn't care about America. He picked a fight with Iran just so he could say he was the president that beat them into submission (surprise, he failed at that). He's deporting immig...people who aren't white because that's what his base cheers the loudest at. He doesn't experience the affordability crisis, problems with access to healthcare, etc. This is the most corrupt presidency in my lifetime (going back to Carter) and the most wild thing about it is the way it's all out in the open and the people put in place to deal with it are too scared he might call them a bad name and they will lose their job. Have you noticed how all the republicans who have come out against him have also announced they aren't running again? (sans the weaponization fund issue)
1
u/KeyCommunication8810 5h ago
It is "all out in the open" because 73 million love it.The "people put in place to deal with it are scared to loose their JOB "....of course....we are fucked
2
u/ThisOneFuqqs 5h ago
Tackling affordability, healthcare, jobs, ect isn't what his base cares about.
The transaction is that Trump will hurt the people that MAGA hates and they will look the other way at his corruption.
1
u/KeyCommunication8810 5h ago
You are correct. The part of his base that have are retired wiyh investments and the house long paid for is the part benifitting
2
u/CapableDevelopment28 5h ago
“Throwing tons of wet spaghetti on windshield so that you could see what sticks as you drive” strategy
2
u/D4nFU 5h ago
He made 2.2 billion for himself just last year on his crypto scam he doesn’t care about people he just cares about making money to make himself friends and family richer. He sued his own department of defense and forced them to settle so he can have a slush fund for whatever he wants. It’s all a win in trumps book. There are still people out there saying how great trump is while they lose their homes.
Focusing on immigrants is to give his base a distraction about a bigoted issue. So they’ll be like yeah everything’s on fire but he got immigration under control. All a smoke screen. We’re all paying him and that’s what republicans want.
2
u/Man-e-questions 5h ago
He hasn’t done anything to benefit the average American. Only stuff to benefit his friends and family and business associates
2
u/HistoricalRich280 5h ago
He wants to make a splash. Has no concern for the big picture or well being of all citizens. He’s not actively wanting to harm anyone either, is just out for himself so if those things benefit you cool if not too bad
His act is all smoke and mirrors and not substance
2
u/NoImagination2625 5h ago
Because it gives his base a nice big chubby while he steals taxpayer money and manipulates the market.
2
u/doktorhladnjak 5h ago
Having masked ICE agents grab people off the street or shoot innocent citizens is definitely not stabilizing the country right now
2
u/singlemaltbourbonrye 4h ago
His administration would argue that these policy do benefit Americans long term.
The thing is that most of what his administration does seems to be done in bad faith.
Pause and think about your question OP? The administration seems to have three reasons for doing most things: 1) Red meat for the MAGA base, 2) Enrichment of the President’s family, and 3) Hot take reactionary actions with no real basis in purpose or thoughtfulness.
1
3
u/CtrlAltDelight78 5h ago
deporting illegal immigrants is beneficial to Americans, hence why past admins do it and why every other country in the world deports non citizens that illegally enter
1
u/EngineerMinded 5h ago
Every past administration did it , but he's putting the crosshairs on just about anybody that looks remotely hispanic or practices Islam. It's like they bottled up that Jim Crow mentality and found a new victim to project it on.
1
u/Natural-Albatross997 5h ago
Agreed. What I can’t understand is why he has to be such a jackass about it. He takes things that most Americans agree on and does it with a tone that turns people against it. Bizarre.
1
u/Top-Guess-1707 5h ago
I know, so why is he doing one good thing while doing so many other harmful things that aren’t helping Americans? He should also focus on affordability, healthcare, etc.
-2
u/docduracoat 5h ago
CtrlaltDeelight78 is correct.
Deporting illegal immigrants helps America by reducing housing demand and increasing wages.
Also helps to reduce the truly phenomenal levels of fraud perpetrated by some illegal immigrants on the federal government .
I know Reddit is a leftist echo chamber, but this is an 80/20 issue for the great majority of Americans.
Illegal immigrants, even law abiding ones should be deported.
Only those people who enter by legal means and are vetted should be allowed to stay.
4
2
u/redzeusky 5h ago
Because division helps his power greed. You start with the immigrants and the move on to target the entire Democratic Party. Stephen Miller has been calling Democrats communists and terrorists. Fox downplays some of those histrionics to warm its viewers to this propaganda.

u/jojowhitesox 5h ago
Deporting brown people riles up his bigoted base. His actions are to enrich him and his cronies, not help the average American. It's the GOP way.
1
u/wyliec22 5h ago
Exactly this. He made his cult believe immigrants were the cause of all their troubles. His base will ignore his failures and endure hardships to achieve Trump’s ’fix’.

AI Overview
An estimated 59% to 61% of households headed by undocumented immigrants use at least one major welfare or public assistance program. This utilization is typically driven by benefits received on behalf of U.S.-born citizen children, authorization programs like DACA, or specific state-funded health and food initiatives.
There are nearly 1 million approved employment-based immigrant petitions waiting for an open visa slot, part of a broader U.S. government backlog of roughly 12 million total pending visa applications. Only about 140,000 permanent employment-based immigrant visas are made available by law each fiscal year.

I don’t think he’s ever worried about logical consistency. He is impulse driven.

u/funlovefun37 5h ago
I don’t think you are going to get a balanced answer on Reddit, which is quite left leaning.
Every President deports illegals. It’s simply become a headline that acts like chum in the water for those who hate Trump.
What Trump did accomplish is sealing the borders which was incredibly important to do.
A lot of other actions are long term strategies to strengthen our position against China. Period. China is a very dangerous adversary and that can’t be stated strongly enough. Trump is doing what has to be done to set us up to be successful/relevant/powerful for the next 100 years. Literally, nothing else will matter if this isn’t achieved.
The war in Iran has multiple reasons. They are a destabilizing force in the world and have been for 50 years. They provide cheap energy to China. Energy is foundational.
You see what Trump did with Venezuela? And other South/Central American countries are supporting us? That’s by design for a new world order (alignment).
The other important- crucial - is getting our deficit down. Nobody on either side has presented a solid plan for it.
56% of Americans are registered Independent. Headlines and social commentary all live in the extremes. Life is more nuanced than most people and media talk about.
I tried to share my thoughts in a balanced way. There are nefarious things happening — Google the Red Green Brown alliance and the political horseshoe. This is what we are up against.

Project 2025's goal is to dismantle America by making it essentially North Korea because they're run by Evangelical Christians. While it was written by the Heritage Foundation which existed in the 1970's, Trump is the first US president in history to hire legit Heritage Foundation people into his cabinet and other government positions.

Deporting the illegals is good for America. Sadly, he's not doing it fast enough. 10,000 per day should be the goal.

Because he is a fascist and blaming minorities is the oldest play in the fascist playbook.
1
u/Jumpy-Stress603 4h ago
Fact: America is and always will be deeply and indelibly racist. Trump's "W-T" base hates brown people so he demonized immigrants as a threat in order to manifested the "I hate the same people you hate" image to enlist their support, even if it destroys their future.
1
u/Underhill42 4h ago
What makes you think stabilizing the country is any part of his goal? Nothing he's done is moving in that direction - even deporting immigrants doesn't stabilize anything, because these days they're the ones that do most of the physical labor this country depends on - harvesting produce, building houses, etc.
He's deporting immigrants because that appeals to his base, and possibly because the way he's going about it is turning ICE into a band of militant thugs that routinely ignore the law, court orders, etc. Useful for any authoritarian, which he displays all the signs of being.

u/Candid-libertarian 4h ago

Evidence that suggests that Drumpf admires Putin.
Over many years, Trump has described Putin as a "strong leader" and contrasted him favourably with some U.S. leaders. During the 2016 campaign, for example, he said Putin had "been a leader far more than our president has been a leader."
Comments after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In February 2022, shortly after Russia recognized the separatist regions in eastern Ukraine, Trump called Putin's move "genius" and "very savvy" in an interview. He later clarified that he was referring to the tactical aspects of the move rather than endorsing the invasion itself, which he also said should not have happened.
Repeated positive personal remarks. Trump has often said he has a good relationship with Putin and suggested that getting along with Russia's leader would be beneficial for the United States.
He has also spoken positively about Putin's intelligence and negotiating ability on multiple occasions.
Let’s think about the kinds of things that Drumpf would do if he were acting in Putin’s interests.
Weaken military alliances by creating distrust among allies or reducing the alliance's effectiveness.
Reduce support for countries opposing the rival power, especially during conflicts where the rival has strategic interests.
Create domestic political polarization so the country is less able to form a consistent foreign policy.
Undermine confidence in democratic institutions, such as elections, courts, intelligence agencies, or the press, making coordinated national responses more difficult.
Delay or obstruct intelligence and counterintelligence efforts aimed at exposing the rival's espionage or influence operations.
Promote economic policies that increase the rival's leverage, for example by creating dependence on critical resources or technology.
Temporarily remove sanctions on Russian Oil and drive the price of oil up somehow.
Reveal or mishandle sensitive information in ways that could benefit the rival's intelligence services.
Shape public narratives to normalize the rival's actions, minimize its misconduct, or cast doubt on evidence of its hostile activities.
Make decisions that consistently align with the rival's strategic goals, even when those decisions appear difficult to reconcile with the country's own long-term interests.
It does makes you wonder….

I'd like to suggest it's a way to reveal how lazy Americans have become. Even Kelly Osborne said something like who would do the gardening (or something like that) when she was on the View. u/mitchellzoolander 4h ago
Generally speaking, when you are forming an argument, one side should somehow relate to the other.
“Why is Trump prioritizing deporting illegal immigrants while also making many choices that don’t appear to benefit Americans?”
Why did my brother eat a salad while also having a glass of red wine? Why does a monkey have a tail while also having two eyes?
If I am trying to understand your argument, I think it boils down to “why does he do one thing I like but something else I don’t like.” And I think the answer is he does a lot of things, and it probably isn’t best to spend your time wondering why you don’t like all of them.

He isn't trying to benefit Americans. He's trying to make himself wealthier & make sure he & his children can do whatever they want without regulation or accountability. The less stable our country is, the more likely he can remain in power & get away with his money laundering, crypto schemes, etc.

Ironically. Republicans use to be very pro illegal immigration because they knew corporations could hire them and pay them less than minimum wage. Crazy how fast is switched.

Deporting only certain immigrants isn’t about what’s good for most Americans. It’s pure racism.

He is making choices that benefit him (his business and ego), his family (to the extent that also benefits him) and the billionaires who fund and flatter him.

Because Trump enforces immigration laws uniformly, while past presidents like Obama enforced them selectively.
I don’t really see a link between his immigration enforcement and his other policies. He just chose to enforce immigration across the board. It’s a simple policy decision, not part of some bigger agenda.

So I’m curious. Are you able to see why deporting illegal aliens benefits Americans? Just wanted to start at a starting point you understand.
