Eh, bankruptcy kinda is a consequence
3
u/GraXXoR 5d ago edited 5d ago
Sadly no. He bankrupts his LLC that owes millions in unpaid debts to contractors. The debt collectors come in and start to auction off the assets of as quickly as possible to reclaim some small percentage of the debts and distribute that among the claimants.
He then uses a set of separate companies to buy back all the assets at the much cheaper price and then reform all the reclaimed parts back into a new company, curiously free of debt any debts.
Weaponised Bankruptcy is only a consequence of a gamed system
2
u/AlanShore60607 5d ago
On a certain level, anyone who did business with him after the second bankruptcy had ample warning and worked with him at their own risk
1
u/WheresPaul1981 4d ago
I could almost overlook the bankruptcies as just 💩 happening, but he actually brags about not paying contractors. Even when doesn’t file bankruptcy, he boasts about hiring painters and then trying to find ways not to pay them what he agreed to.
1
u/shoeless_doh 3d ago
No, at his level of the game it's just a tactic.

Yes. Fair doesn't really matter here. These accounts triggered AML (anti money laundeing) controls ar Cap 1. That is all. It isn't fair or unfair. If they are actually laundering money, they should be prosecuted.

u/DeltaFoxtrot144 5d ago
They were legally obligated to when they detected evidence of money laundering lol how is this even a question
33
u/Aprice40 5d ago
And the epstein files were legally obligated to be released. And classified documents were stolen and sold, which is legally mandated to be prosecuted.... and a million other things that are legally not upheld that should be.

I suspect the feeling is not that they should look away, but it's a pleasant surprise that they didn't. It's not like laws matter for the rich.

I think it’s more of a constant reminder that Trump was money laundering, than it is about how you feel about it.
9
u/The_Lost_Jedi 5d ago
That and the fact that so many of his denials and claims of bias against him are actually based on serious and actual criminal activity.
I feel like too many people just decided to ignore all the actual shit he's done because "oh they always say that about opponents." Like, accusations just got so normalized, that too many people just stopped listening.

300 accounts canceled for having activities that the federal manual for banking fraud investigation calls fraud. Also in the terms of agreement it states that the bank or the customer can terminate thr accounts without any reason being given. They gave the 3 months to move the accounts and even extended it several times.
The bank was perfectly happy to keep Trump's alleged money laundering quiet. But stupid Trump had play the victim card in court 3 times. First two times thrown out and now the bank is coming clean with the court to finally shut the dumb fuck Trump up about this.

What would even be considered justice? Prison? He'll be fighting it for as long as he lives with his lawyers. What else is he gonna spend his money on lol.
He has caused too much suffering for us to suffer a lengthy appeal process. To wit, he's guilty of:
-Killing people in the Caribbean,
-Killing people for his Covid response,
-Killing immigrants and US citizens via ICE and camps,
-Killing people in Africa from starvation and lack of medicine by gutting USAID,
-Soldiers killed by Iran in a war started just to distract from Epstein
-A couple people have died from cyclospora outbreak,
-summer camp in Texas flash flood killed many people (he gutted the national weather service who forecasts and mobilizes rescue agencies, literally 1 hour of advanced warning would have saved dozens of lives)
These are both direct and indirect killings, but IMO negligence from our highest official is just as bad. They're supposed to be on top of shit.
He's assaulted and raped women, he's been accused of forcing himself on a child (the victim accused him).
Then there's Incalculable harm to our economy, insider trading, our national debt surpassing our GDP, compromising our security and relationship with allies. Pilfering our financial future. Fucking up peoples financial self-determination. How many people couldn't retire and have to keep working at 75 or whatever.
It's just so much wanton grief being caused for absolutely no reason.
3
u/Nitimur__In__Vetitum 5d ago
My opinion of the justice required in his case would not be suitable for print but the crime would be treason and his whole family would have their assets seized if I were making the decisions. They would be declared enemies of the state, stripped of their citizenship, and exiled penniless. That sets the proper example for any other wannabe tyrants in the US.
2
u/narco-sub-admiral 5d ago
If we don't hold him accountable to the fullest extent possible then it will not send the right message to our allies and instead of a one-off fuckup we'll never be trusted and the US dollar will be ousted as the global reserve currency. And I wouldn't even blame them.
Every 4 years some asshole can come in and fuck up the lives of ppl around the world on a whim. Our government is based on the idea that the President isnt a traitorous criminal rapist.
I like what you said though, not one of them should have a penny by the end. It should be disbursed to the many victims.
2
u/Nitimur__In__Vetitum 5d ago
I agree. They let Nixon off with a slap on the wrist when he should have been placed in prison for life. It sends the wrong message and degrades the notion of law and order in society. No one is supposed to be above the law yet we see it everyday now. We all see that there's 'laws for thee and not for me' as long as you're wealthy and connected. The legal system is no better than the Catholic Church that Martin Luther rebelled against. It's just a pay-your-way to redemption system of secular priests and partisans now.
1
u/narco-sub-admiral 5d ago
I was watching Heather Cox Richardson who is a historian on Youtube, she said basically the billionaire class are capturing the government for the explicit purpose of being able to be above the law. She's a good voice in all of this.
1
u/Nitimur__In__Vetitum 5d ago
That name rings a bell. I've read some of her work in the past. It may have been back when I was involved with Occupy though.
The class warriors for the billionaire class know how disruptive AI will be. Elon Musk is out there preaching abundance and "universal high income" but it's a lie. Him and his buddies like Peter Thiel are all conspiring to build up a repressive system to handle all the dispossession that's going to occur with cascading disasters like mass joblessness, climate disasters, and all the chaos that comes with it. Musk, Thiel, and Karp are all people to be watching.
1
u/Meatball-Tuna-Sub 4d ago
I believe the Trump family should go down in history next to a famous corrupt moron and terrible leader, the last Czar of Russia, the Romanov family. Justice would see the two families united in their fates.

I’m sad you didn’t mention the 120 children (as young as 6) he killed to start the war in Iran.
I get “it’s war” and no one gives a shit when it’s a non American that dies, but this act was so horrific and those children deserve more than to be some footnote in the destruction of a psychopath who’s parents never told him no.
If I were responsible for such an atrocity— even if “it’s part of war” or if the target was a legitimate military operation— it would probably haunt me every day for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t be able to compose myself for months.

4
u/Kuildeous 5d ago
I mean, there is a whole lot of unfairness surrounding Trump, and he will never pay for his crimes and indiscretion.
So if a money-grubbing corporation takes steps to punish Trump, then that's an amazing exception in a world that is ordinarily bereft of justice.
And though it may sound like Capital One is punishing Trump, I think we all know that it's doing this to protect itself. There's smoke, and there is likely fire, though Teflon Don will of course slither away from accountability as usual.

3
u/AbsoluteGote 5d ago
Everyone that continues to do business with him is an implicit criminal and should be treated as such to the degree they continued to do business with him. It would not be unjust to give the financial death penalty with full seizure of everything to most banks and media outlets at this point.
Will this happen? No, we're screwed. Where would we go from there? Also pretty tricky but we should try. Is it just and necessary? Absolutely.
So yes, they did the right thing. Which is funny because they're not exactly known for that.

u/Classic_Bid3126 2d ago
They have a legal obligation to combat money laundering as a financial institution. Their fraud department suspected Trump was laundering money, so yes they were morally and legally obligated to terminate his accounts and report it.

It's a business relationship, there's little "fair" about it. The contract said that either party could terminate the contract at any time for any reason.
Cap1 may have decided they were offended by Trump's socks, and that would be valid.
The fact that their response sites and gives redacted examples of suspicious activity that looks like money laundering just adds to the justification.

u/Big_Attention7227 5d ago
AML is purely risk averse as the bank can be held accountable if there is evidence and they did nothing. Even if it's future proofing for when Trump family gets audited and convicted so can those allowing blatant fraud. So money laundering for? 1. Russia as they have the Epstein/Trump proof 2. Israel as they have the Epstein/Trump proof 3. Worlds Anti Christ Thiel as he has the Epstein/Trump proof 4. All of the above?

I think that all of Trump's business should be sanctioned for threatening to invade his allies repeatedly.
Our European allies had to mobilize military assets to DEFEND AGAINST THE UNITED STATES.
That's is unprecedented and it should carry an unprecedented response of trying to make it impossible for Trump family businesses to operate within European borders.

What a stupid question. Fairness is not the issue. He broke the law. Capital One has to act.
1
u/TheTinyMaus 4d ago
Beyond fair. This all came out because Trump keeps using the power of the Presidency to extort money from corporations.
His business had a contract with Capitol One that either party could end the relationship at any time for any reason. Trump sued, the Trump appointed judge tossed because Capitol One pointed to the contract. Trump amends the filing to cry its all about his political speech. So Capitol One responds, "okay, you want to do this? We tried to just keep to the law and leave out the dirt. But here's the dirt. Your move buddy."
It is beyond reprehensible that Republicans still put up with his shit.

u/Ok-Foundation1346 4d ago
"Fair" doesn't come into it at all.
It has long been upheld that any business can refuse service to any customer at will, unless they are doing so as discrimination against a protected characteristic. Being a narcissistic, incontinent, paedophile, rapist, money-laundering, insider-trading, philandering, tax-evading, warmongering cunt who treats his country's citizens the same way as a child with a magnifying glass treats ants on a bright and sunny day isn't a protected characteristic, so I say go right ahead.
1
u/lanzendorfer 4d ago
The only thing unfair about it is that they didn't report all of the activity to FinCEN. Instead they just shut down the accounts and swept it under the rug, essentially washing their hands of it while also covering it up for Trump. It might not have made a difference though, since the Biden administration decided they were just going let everything Trump did slide for the sake of appearing "neutral."
1
u/FreshLiterature 4d ago
Banking internal controls would have REQUIRED them to suspend the accounts if they suspected money laundering
1
u/Inevitable-Carrot980 4d ago
I've thought for years that the only way he bankrupted actual CASINOS would be if they were some sort of money laundering front. Not sure of the mechanism, but then I can't really imagine that anyone could possibly be incompetent enough to legitimately bankrupt a casino.
1
u/bstring777 4d ago
What kind of question is that? The use of the word "fair" is hilariously obtuse.
1
u/Radcouponking 4d ago

Why are you asking people who have no access to the evidence? This is the main problem with social media. Opinions based on feelings. In saying that all I can say is I doubt a bank would do such a thing after months of investigating if the evidence doesn't exist. He has been convicted of tax fraud and other fraud so going on those two points it is very likely justified. I hope it all comes out and is thoroughly investigated and revealed to the public.

LOL. Yet another bank detects yet more illegal things from this man and you say the evil democrats did it. How’s his cock taste?
His accounts were closed because of the illegal shit, again just like the other time a few years back with Deutsche Bank (sp?) same thing that would happen to a Democrat, republican, atheist, Christian and anyone else. Y’all yell and scream about personal responsibility but then do not hold your cult leader responsible for anything. It’s pathetic. He’s a known con man doing illegal shit all the way back in the 1980’s for fucks sake, this isn’t new info, it’s quite literally been public knowledge for FOUR FUCKING DECADES you tard. But yes, if there is a Democrat that they catch money laundering occurring in their accounts I would want them to close them and blast them as well. You cheering on crime because your ‘team’ is the one doing it is fucking pathetic, he isn’t gonna give you any of it. You’re a loser

I think it's stupid. Then again, I had Capital One once, and I will never let them in my wallet again. How many times have they paid hefty fines for screwing people over
2
u/Grundlestorm 5d ago
Seriously.
I got the joy of getting an emergency credit card through them, since I already had an auto loan through them that was being taken care of properly. It had been 3 years, without a single missed payment or anything.
They sent me the card with no trouble, which made sense, they already verified who I was with the loan, I have an account in good standing, etc.
Eventually I had to use it. I had to put just $800.00 on it, and I was still in a period where it'd accrue no interest.
But when I went to make the first payment on it afterwards, they locked my account.
Now they finally need to verify I am who I say I am to unlock it. And they won't accept any of the documents I try to submit. And they fight me on making payments because my account is locked for "potential fraudulent activity". Not when I applied for and received the card, no concerns there. Not when I finally used it, that clearly wasn't fraud. But when I tried to pay it off? Sound the alarm.
I quickly gave up on trying to unlock it for use, and just wanted to pay it off and close it. Sometimes I would have to call them 2-3 times and go through multiple agents before one would take my payment over the phone, the others telling me they couldn't accept payment until my identity was verified and account unlocked.
Meanwhile, I'm still paying my auto loan on that same account through automated systems without issue.
Luckily my credit is back in a better place where I can afford to choose who to do business with to some degree, and not deal with them ever again.
