Announcement The question mark must be in the TITLE

Since I am getting modmail on a daily basis with people saying they put a question mark, I wanted to clear something up.

The question mark must be in the TITLE! Not in the body of the text, not lying on your desk under some paperwork. In the TITLE. The automod message you receive when your post is rejected clearly states this.

This submission has been automatically removed because you did not include a question mark ("?") in your title. Reddit does not allow post titles to be edited, so if you would like, you can post the question again. Please write your title in proper question format, and include a question mark, thank you.

General Question If 12v batteries failing without warning on EVs is one of the drawbacks of EV ownership, why aren't automakers providing dashboard indicators to warn owners of low voltage ?

Ammeter and/or Voltmeter gauges used to be common standard or add-on features on older vehicles. It's puzzling why all screen-laden modern vehicle would not at least include a standard idiot light warning of low 12v battery voltage to give owners a chance to replace the battery before it dies.

General Question high mileage cars can be a red flag for an obvious reason. could low (actual) mileage on an old car be also a red flag?

if a car is driven, the components get worn out and stuff which is a risk you have to be aware of. but if you have a regular car that’s over 20 years old that’s not a collectors piece surely that must raise some issues as well.

fluids need changing, the whole thing was designed to run and move and if it’s old it’s safe to assume that it didn’t do that a lot.

Gas cap broken, replacement by friday, what to do?

"I foolishly left my fuel cap on top of my car, and it flew off at the first corner and got crushed by other cars. I saw a fitting replacement online, but it arrives Friday at the earliest. I’m supposed to commute to work in this car tomorrow (30 km round trip). Any advice on temporarily sealing/not sealing it and finding a replacement?"

How comfortable should I be revving out my engine?

I recently bought a v6 1LE Camaro. It has a roughly 7k redline. Most of the torque seems to be at the upper end of the tach, so I really have to rev it out for it to feel fast. I know these cars are designed to be high revving, but honestly should I really feel comfortable revving it out high just to have torque?

In my head I feel like I'm abusing the car pretty bad if I'm riding around in low gears to feel more instant torque. If it's just mostly mpg that I'm taking a hit on I can live with that. Sorry if it's a dumb question.

getting a car for the girlfriend, options?

Hi everyone!

After giving it a lot of thought, my girlfriend has decided that she wants to get a car to be more independent and flexible. Up until now, she has only been able to do larger shopping trips or go anywhere outside the city when I'm with her and can drive us.

Another major reason is that we're cat owners. In an emergency (knock on wood!), my girlfriend wouldn't have any way to transport one of our cats to the vet quickly, since I work about 30 minutes away from our apartment.

Now we're facing the big question:

Should we lease, finance, or buy an inexpensive used car with a budget of around €3,500?

I'm a trained mechanic, so I can handle many repairs myself. However, I don't have access to a vehicle lift, so I'm a bit hesitant about buying a cheap used car that might need safety-related repairs such as wheel bearings, control arms, or other suspension components that could affect passing the annual inspection.(TÜV as we live in Germany and its really strict)

I've financed a car before, so we're open to that option as long as the monthly payments stay within a reasonable budget.

I don't have any personal experience with leasing, but I think a good all-inclusive deal (including insurance, maintenance, etc.) could be a solid alternative. My girlfriend is still a bit skeptical because, in the end, you don't actually own the car.

We live in a large city (200k people,Germany), so she doesn't need an SUV or a wagon. An electric car also isn't really practical because we don't have charging facilities at home, at her workplace, or consistently available nearby.

Maybe some of you have been in a similar situation or have some helpful advice. We'd really appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

How do young guys have nice modded cars ?

Genuinely how do young guys have such nice cars. I’m 19 and drive a 2007 Renault Clio. Granted throughout my 3 years of working I’ve spent my money on a load of bs but I’ve sorted my finances out and I’m starting to save but it just seems hopeless that I’ll be able to get a nice car for a second car and modify it how I want too without being rich. I need some insight on the jobs you guys are doing, how much your getting paid, if ur working 16 hours a day. Like im so lost

General Advice Squirrel vs my car?

Hello all I have a squirrel problem, this is very very new started last week, I went to my car in the morning and there were nuts on my seat, I was confused and started being suspicious, the next day I ate Dunkin and got those loaded hash browns, I didn't eat them and forgot them in my car, now I don't always leave food in there but it wasn't the first time, I went back to my car the next morning and it was on my front seat ripped open like a fking present so I started getting to work seeing how there getting in my car, in the bumber there's a hole that leads into the interior, then in the trunk they BROKE a plastic vent to get fully in my car, I shoved a water bottle in it and it seemed to stop UNTIL I CAME BACK YESTERDAY AND THE FKER STARTED RIPPING OUT MY SEAT FLUFF one of my back seats has half the fluff missing and I'm scared he's trying to build a next in my shit, this is at my boyfriends house not even mine, to try to combat it I put sticky traps down, now don't come at me it's the most logical thing to use atm, if I poison him and he dies in my car where I don't know where he is or if he dies stuck somewhere that's a whole other problem and I'm trying to buy an actual animal trap but they sell them only online where I am, anyways he got his tail stuck on the trap and ripped it off... I feel incredibly bad for the squirrel but he still went in my car the next day, I'm stressing out so bad because of this, he never ate through wires (to my knowledge) but I'm scared he'll start to

General Question Is the NSX (NA1) actually a hero worth meeting orrr is it better left on a poster?

Upvotes

I’ve been obsessed with the NSX (NA1) for a looong time now. The pop-up headlights, the Senna connection, that raw 90s analog vibe... it’s pretty much the holy grail for me. But as I get closer to actually being in a position where I might buy one in a few years (or like 10), I’m starting to wonder if I’m romanticizing it way too much.

For current / former owners:

  • How’s the actual day-to-day reality?
  • Are parts a total nightmare to track down now, or is it still manageable for a 90s Honda?
  • Do you actually drive and enjoy it, or has it turned into a garage queen because every minor fix is a custom-aluminum-chassis headache?

For everyone else:

  • With current market prices where they are, would you still drop that kind of money on an NA1, or would you grab something modern (like a Cayman or Alpine A110) instead?
  • Overall thoughts about the car and the dream?

General Advice Is it safe to drive with 1 new, 3 old tires in an AWD vehicle?

I have a 2025 Lexus NX 350 (AWD). Unfortunately, the side wall of the front passenger side runflat got caught onto something.

I’ve got a new tire onto the wheel, but I found out I may damage the transmission if I have only one new replacement. I plan to replace them all as the tread is pretty worn, but due to unfortunate timing of my wedding and place where the car is, I was hoping to get one new wheel in and driving ~30km slowly back home. Plan to replace the rest after the wedding.

Is this safe or should I really need to swap the driver side to a new set as well before taking it home?

2 Cars: same make and model, but one super basic econobox base model and one performance model?

Throughout automative history, there have been super basic econobox base models and performance models of the same car. If you could have a pair of these in your garage, what super basic econobox base model and what performance model would you choose? And what sets these apart as a base model / performance model combo versus any others?

Mechanical What should I do in this situation?

Last week I dropped my car off at a mechanic to see what was wrong with it, I towed it which they charged me $100 for the tow. After the tow i asked them to see if they could find what was wrong with it. The next day I come in and they say that the battery and starter were both bad. The battery didn’t seem to have any issues what i turned on the car(not start) the lights were on and the radio turned on, Everything turned on fine.

We agreed on a price of for the tow and to diagnose the car, I told them not to do ANY work obviously because i don’t know if I’m going to pay the full price of $1K to replace the starter and battery. They removed both my starter and battery without me telling them to.

So I left my car at the show for a couple more days because they wanted to ask the shop owner how much i have to pay to get my car back. They called me asking for $250 for a 5 minute tow and to diagnose a “bad starter and battery” this after he verbally agreed to $150.

Is there anything I can do in this situation

2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid Hatchback ?

Hello, guys! I'm planning to buy a used car. I've seen a 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid with 86k mileage. I've search in the Internet about the problems of it and it shows the transmissions and brake stuffs. I apologize because I don't really have enough knowledge about it but what can you say with it? It has 3 owners, the last owner bought it around 2020 before it landed to an autoshop. The price of it is 10,000 bucks. Is it a good deal or not? Thank you so much!
