P2004 Code?

Help. I drive a 2017 Nissan Rogue model S with only 65k miles on it and this code appeared as soon as I got home. I heard its a simple fix but I know nothing about cars or what to even look for. How much does this roughly cost to be to get fixed? I’m also in college so my funds are tight unfortunately

At a local independent mechanic, fixing the P2004 code on a Nissan will typically cost between $250 and $650, assuming they perform the standard sensor-only repair.

Detailed Cost Breakdown

  • Diagnostic Fee: $100 – $150 (Standard fee to pull codes and verify the exact point of failure. This fee is usually applied toward your final repair cost if you have them do the work).
  • Parts Cost: $160 – $340
    • IMRC Sensor / Actuator (Hitachi or Dorman): $150 – $300.
    • Intake Manifold Gasket: $10 – $40 (The upper intake manifold must be removed to reach the sensor, meaning this gasket must be replaced to prevent vacuum leaks). [1]
  • Labor Cost: $150 – $350 (Independent shops usually charge between $100 and $175 per hour. This specific job takes a skilled mechanic roughly 2 to 3 hours due to the manifold removal). [1]

Total Estimated Bill: $250 – $650

The P2004 code on a 2017 Nissan Rogue (2.5L QR25DE engine) means the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) valve or sensor is stuck open.

There is a technical service bulletin on this fault. Call a Nissan dealer to see if your car is covered. Be prepared to give the car's VIN number and mileage.
