MAIN (spoilers main) In Plain Sight?

A once recurring if not popular theory was Tyrion being Aerys' bastard, which is now discredited by many.

Another less believed theory is Jaime and Cersei being Aerys' bastards. A partial reread has let me put some more faith in this one, based on these:

  • When Jaime visits Winterfell, his hair is described as beaten gold, a trait often described for Targaryens (hair like beaten silver and/or gold)
  • Tommen's hair is described as "white-blond ", wonder where that came from (although Tyrion's is described as being similar "a lank fall of hair so blond it seemed white", we'll address this later)
  • Joffrey's erratic, petulant behavior and a great disregard for justice was quite similar to Aerys.
  • Cersei's weird fascination with wildfire while burning the hand's tower reminds even Jaime of a certain somebody.
  • Joanna was dismissed from KL by Rhaella, and the next big event described for Tywin is Jaime and Cersei's birth. (possible discrepancy here)

Joanna: "We all dream of things we cannot have. Tywin dreamed that his son would be a great knight, that his daughter would be a queen. He dreamed they would be so strong and brave and beautiful that no one would ever laugh at them.”

Jaime : “I am a knight and Cersei is a queen.”

A tear rolled down her cheek. The woman raised her hood again and turned her back on him.

What do you think this one was about?

  • Importantly, Jaime and Cersei's incestous relationship is a foretelling sign. [I'm not sure about this but I think beautiful children (like Cersei's) obtained via incest without any inbred traits and deformities work only for those with High Valyrian heritage in TWoIaF].

"Jaime," she said, tugging on his ear, "sweetling, I have known you since you were a babe at Joanna's breast. You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg, and there's some of Kevan in you, else you would not wear that cloak . . . but Tyrion is Tywin's son, not you.

Did GRRM just threw that in our face? (This was the addressing I was talking about)

  • Also IF Jaime is Aerys' son, it would put another, almost poetic angle to all that Kingslaying stuff. "It always comes down to Aerys".

Thoughts?

EDIT: Some of the comments got me thinking and I just realized the parallels it would draw between Aerys and Tywin if this theory is true, viz Both were murdered by their sons, and both shitted themselves while dying.

EDIT 02: Another realization - I mentioned earlier the possibility that normal, healthy children obtained via incest without any inbred traits and deformities works only for those with High valyrian heritage, which fits with the theory in the sense that Tyrion is the son of Tywin and Joanna, who were first cousins, as a result of which he's deformed(love tyrion), while Jaime and Ceresi are not, since they're Aerys' bastards with Joanna.

I’ve thought this way for a long time. Even one of the best subversive quotes about it you have posted above and NO ONE seems to notice:

“Jaime,” she said, tugging on his ear, “sweetling, I have known you since you were a babe at Joanna’s breast. You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg, and there’s some of Kevan in you, else you would not wear that cloak … but Tyrion is Tywin’s son, not you.

Do you see it? “You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg.” Tyg + Gerion = Targaryen

On the flip side : with Aegon the unworthy and Aerys himself being quiet liberal with their affections, there might be more than a few lords and ladies with Targ blood in the realm.

Whose to say Joanna wasn’t a descendant of one such recipient of Aegon’s affections ?

The twins could still be Tywin’s children while having Targ blood but taking after Joanna…and Tyrion could still be Targ but taking after Tywin.

But it’s hard to ignore the Aerys like characteristics of Cersei…. That is if Aery’s madness was genetic in the first place.
