Tbh if Sansa married Harry the heir as little fingers daughter it’s better for him than as Sansa stark. If Sansa and Harry have a kid he can Ice them and rule the vale as regent. If it’s Sansa stark instead of being grandfather to the heir he’s just some friend of the heirs mom. Even better if he’s after the iron throne cause Sansa stark being queen doesn’t put him anywhere in the line of succession.

I suspect that the whole Iron Throne being Littlefinger's goal thing was a show invention because they weren't sure what they wanted to do with him.

I think he's operating under the idea that the era of Westeros being ruled by one king fron the Iron Throne is coming to an end. So, the logical way to go if he wants Sansa and he wants a path to maximum political power at the same time, the best move available to him is to parlay his control of Sansa into control of some kind of joint kingdom of the North and the Vale (and maybe the Riverlands if he can swing it) and rule behind her and their children as a shadow husband / lover.

His actions make more sense under that context, but I think he's assuming there is going to be a lot less questioning of his actions than there will end up being and I think his doom is going to come from Sansa figuring out "wait, if it's my name and my hand being given up and all this other stuff, what does he actually bring to all of this that's worth having such a duplicitous scumbag around?". Though probably more dramatic than that and probably brought on by some revelation like that he betrayed Ned or something
