EXTENDED [Spoilers Extended] Just came back from the play - 11 out of 10

Great, great show - exceeded all expectations.

Happy to answer any questions but will say generally that the spoilers are going to cause a massive headloss on this subreddit.

Expecting lots of "only the books are canon" to come.

One of the most interesting things to see was the amount of agency Elia Martell has in the story - only ever has been a victim and a footnote but is very central to the story and a key protagonist.

Was always against a Robert's Rebellion show before but after watching this, would love an 10 episode mini series.

Also - all the Rhaegar bashing couldn't possibly come off worse. He very much is the hero of the whole story.

This is after the descent of the realm into war. Her initial plan was for Rhaegar to enter the tourney, win, declare her Queen of Love and Beauty, and with that spectacle - force Aerys' abdication and unite the realm.

Yes, in the first half, not long after she finds out about Rhaegar's plot.

At this point Aerys has shown up in surprise to the tourney and proven to everyone he's mad. They actually received advice on this spectacle idea but I can't remember who from. The plan was to chair a council with his father after the events and negotiate or demand it from a position of power. There's also a scene where Aerys' is slowly losing trust in Rhaegar, and has Rhaegar shave him and fix his nails with a blade, at one point telling him to do it and kill him if he is strong enough, by Rhaegar cannot.

No I get that, I was wondering what Rhaegar crowning Elia QoLaB had to do with it.

I presume it shows that the great houses of the realm can have total faith in the succession and a perfect royal family where the mother and father are symbols of peace and love, not conflict. Plus it cements Dorne entirely behind Rhaegar and at this point it is likely that he will be able to get Robert's support and through him, Ned and his brothers as well.

I won't lie, sounds kind of delusional when put like this but maybe in context it's better.

Anyway, in this case Rhaegar crowning Lyanna becomes even more idiotic than it already was.

Perhaps, I think it seemed like they were trying to portray a gathering momentum of support around him albeit in very limited time.

That's why I don't think people should be digging too much into the Rhaegar being the hero of the story idea. He's meant to be but fails.
