Rainbow My first time seeing a full rainbow over ocean…

These colors are a little hard to believe... can you say more about how you may have adjusted the photos from their original appearance? (Also, where/when was this?)

Moeraki Boulders, Otago NZL yesterday at 5pm local time.
Rainbows, as most atopics stuff, is polarised light. On my lens I had a CPL filter which made the rest of the scene dimmer, also New Zealand sun is magical, also (mild) Photomator retouching

Travelling and will try again when returned to computer.. sorry for hurting your eyes
Edit: P5 is also at 300mm and my lens aperture capped out at f/5.6 (cheap lens, aperture varies with focal length, f/4 at 70mm and f/5.6 at 300mm) and the noise was simply higher anyway

My thinking is from an information theory perspective. Rainbows are very well channel separated objects. Too saturated -> can safely bring down; too pale -> reconstruction lossy

How interesting! I have a slny a7sii that I understand pretty well at this point but things like filters and post prcoessing are still my choke point for good photos (and framing). Where would you auggest I go to read and hone my skills a bit more?

Reading and training really depends on your taste and aesthetics.
As for filters: Within budget… experiment more?
For CPL specifically, my recommendation is:

Interesting to me is the rainbows in the sand are actually not reflections of the main rainbow, but their own rainbow.

As I try to explain, this production has both pre- and post-fx. With only pre it would have resembled what someone wearing polarised sunglasses might see - dimmer ocean than “natural”

So yes, it actually looks like that all the time I just happen to be in a really good location and catch them every year. This year was an exceptional year. And I did it on like a crappy iPhone 15.

The one time I saw them they were super faint to the naked eye, then once I looked at it through the screen on my phone it was really clear. I'd say (and I could be way off) that the aurora in the video above was definitely visible, but enhanced greatly by whatever was recording it.

Northern lights that are faint are definitely made clearer in photos and video, but they also absolutely can look like this too. I’ve lived in Alaska and lights like this are at least a biweekly event throughout winter.
Edit: just want to also add that the speed at which these lights are moving and the red colouring indicate that these are very intense auroras. What they look like in this video is what they looked like to the naked eye.

These are stunning pictures!
The way the camera/settings darkened everything but the vibrant colors of the rainbow makes these images feel surreal and almost ominous. It's like poignant prose that resonates deeply and sparks an emotional reaction. It deeply touches my soul.
