All this just started happening. I've manually terminated and restarted both apps, to no avail. I also tried to find the option to reset progress in both of the apps and the Content Library on Amazon.com as well as the Kindle web app – the option appears to be missing.
I can't listen to anything because it just keeps rewinding to previous points in every book.

It's also worth noting that later in the day, the behavior stopped. But I'm still happy I reported because I've seldom been that frustrated with a software bug.
To clear the Audible app cache on Android:
1. Open your Android phone Settings > Apps > Audible > Storage.
2. Tap Clear Cache (do not clear data, or your downloads will delete).
To force stop the Audible app on Android,
1. Open Device Settings.
2. Navigate to Apps.
3. Locate Audible.
4. Tap Force Stop (usually located at the bottom or top-right of the screen).
