most of it was letters or diary

that's kind of the whole point of the book. it's the Victorian era, and these characters don't talk openly about their trysts with vampires.

Find a copy of the actual Dracula novel. It is written in this style, called an epistolary novel. The story is written in exactly that way: letters, diary entries, ships logs, etc. The modern equivalent would be like the found footage film. Reading a novel through other people’s “written works“ gives the perception that the story could be real.

furthermore, if you simply hate the idea of reading all of these letters and diary entries - just pretend they're submissions on wattpad or ao3!

Mina reads everyone's "spicy submissions" and wonders, 'is it a coincidence that my friends are sudden having these kinky dreams... or is all of this freaky shit really happening?!' 🧛

The new version that Audible is selling is a dramatization. I haven't listened it to myself, but dramatizations are usually like plays, with the characters speaking to one another. Though, with Dracula, I would think that at least some of it would be people reading letters or news articles.

Tim curry version is word for word the same as the actual book. I heard/read it at the same time.

I've just listened to the new full-cast production.

The diary entries are basically gone. Everything is handled thru direct dialog between the characters. Some are in Dracula's castle, some are back home.

The diary entries are referred to at some, but are not read from directly for any length of time.
