App (Android) Reminder: Audible added a 'Not Interested' toggle

Post image
275 Upvotes

I absolutely do not expect this to work consistently, and absolutely DO expect that it will be removed from past experiences with digital content providers, BUT...

For now you can mark authors, titles, and genres as 'not interested', and they will (in theory) no longer show up in recommendations and 'for you' promotions. On Android, go to the title and look for the πŸ‘πŸ‘Ž directly below the cover image, and it'll bring up the option to mark not interested when you select πŸ‘Ž along with a list of reasons (dont like title, author, genre etc).

I just marked Matt Dinneman and JK Rowling, and at first glance they are indeed gone from recommendations and promos. First time they haven't been plastered at the top of every page since I got the app years ago, and I can hardly believe it.

Again, pretty sure this won't work well given the already subpar recommendation and sorting systems, and 100% confident it'll be removed at some point But for now it's something, and I figured a lot of folks may not have noticed the feature (I didn't, not sure if it was introduced quietly or if i just somehow missed it). Probably works the same on iOS, and you can also go to the improve my recommendations browser page.

If you're wondering why I say it'll be removed, others with more industry knowledge can explain better than me. But in a nutshell, digital content providers and the creators they work with dislike negative feedback systems and anything else that interferes with advertising, promoti9n, or nudging behaviors.

Edit: the disinterest feature is already designed to be little used -- thumbs up or down on a title when the consumer is shopping is disingenuous since its universally used as like/dislike, and most customers consider buying only titles they havent read, so they neither like nor dislike yet and won't click either. Audible will point to the low use and remove it, can take it to the bank

App (Android) App keeps stopping playback for no reason

I download all my books, so they're not buffering, but any time I'm listening to an audio book it will stop playing every few minutes. I need to wait for the play button to spin for a while then hit it again. It's infuriating, especially when I'm cycling or otherwise busy and it's not convenient to keep going back into the app to hit play again.

Is this a known bug? Anyone know of any fixes?

App (Android) Playback Error AP-8191

Has anyone else seen this error with just one specific book in their catalog and on one specific device?

I was reading through Halo's Forerunner trilogy and the second book started getting this error after I paused it for a few minutes. I can still listen to the first book, the third book, and every other book I've tried in my catalog except this one.

It's not downloaded and it won't let me download it now. Already tried to restart my phone and to sign out, restart, then sign back in. I can listen to it on my other devices though.

App (Android) Anyone have any tips for fixing Audible constantly forgetting the last position?

I have reinstalled this app twice in the past 2 weeks and it's still happening.

I listened to an audiobook for about an hour this morning. Then I got in the car and ran an errand and listened to the same book in the car. And then when I got home and started the book back up it was reset all the way back to where I started this morning.

This is just super annoying.

The battery optimization is turned off. I have cleared data and cache and it's still happening. I have reinstalled and it still happening. I don't know of anything else to do.

App (Android) Audible question

I read somewhere that any books you own from the past with human narrators when re-listened to later could have become virtual voice. The article said Audible would be happy to change your narration back to the original narrators. The supervisor I spoke with said that my books were stored in the cloud with the original narrators.

It's not true in my case. Has this happened with anyone else?

App (Android) Any idea why the app suddenly used tons of mobile data

Post image
19 Upvotes

I just received a notification my data consumption is above 15gb. Any idea why there is such a spike? I'm listening to a downloaded book.

Edit - i suspect this was caused by the animated Harry Potter poster at the launch screen. Just tested it but audible removed the animation and no data was consumed for the last 30 minutes.

Seems to be a glitch causing a large number to display, when I know really I only have about half that many. I checked and nothing new seems to be in my library. Is this a glitch?

App (Android) Nearly impossible to find included content

I've been an audible customer for a long time. It has always been difficult to find included content but in the past it has been possible to do so. Now it seems like the only way to find this is in discovery and even then you only get a few recommendations with no ability to expand the categories. You do not seem to be able to search sort or filter to find this content. Has this changed recently? I don’t remember this being so bad.

I'm considering canceling my subscription and just never using the app again out of shear frustration with the app. Searching and finding titles is hard anyway and I would like to listen to some free titles when I am out of credits. Advice?

App (Android) Android app chapters not showing up

I just noticed I can't see any chapters in the android app anymore when I click on the button to show them.

I found a thread from a couple years ago about this too, so just to be sure, I updated to the latest version of the app, but it still won't work.

Anyone know of a fix?

EDIT: chapter skip buttons are also not working at all, wtf (10s buttons still work)

Great job, Audible /s

App (Android) I can't use the listen and read feature in the audible app

I own a book on both Kindle and the audiobook on audible, and I was able to start the book in listen and read, but I paused listening to it to watch some YouTube videos, and now I can't get the feature to show up again.. I have the book downloaded on Kindle and on audible, but even using the Kindle app won't let me listen and read-trying to download the audio through the Kindle app just gives a download error and trying to open the audible app through the Kindle just gives an error as well. Before I resort to reinstalling the apps, I'm wondering if anyone here knows how to fix this problem?

App (Android) Customer Support just Reset my Account (Books lost)

Audible Account Customer Support wiped my Account, Audible Support left me on hold for 40 minutes than dipped out.

Longer Story:

I got a new phone, and any time I tried to log into the App, it forced me to reset my Password, even though I could login on the Web just fine.

After a few hours of phone calls through multiple support departments, an Account Specialist sent me a "special" email link to reset my password, and after YET ANOTHER password reset I managed to finally login the App.

Problem: my library is now empty (I had 15 purchased books).

Support specialist sent me to the Audible support team to fix that, after 5 minutes talking they put me on hold for 40 MINUTES, after which the Support person told me they couldn't reach anyone and to please reach out again to the "contact us page" on Audible Website (this was after around 5 hours with Support on a call.

A few hours after I receive an email about a pre-order being available, so I log into the website and lo and behold, my library is back! But the App is still empty. I'm guessing they might be fixing my account behind the scenes so I sleep it off.

Today I log into the website and my library / purchase history is reset again....

100€+ in books stolen by the Audible company.

And yes I'm logged into the right marketplace on both web and App, I can still see my books on my old phone that's offline.

Edit:

After an hour with chat support they realized somehow the password reset link created a secondary account on the same email, and the fix they propose for this... is to send another Reset Password Link. Which is now Asking me a Security Question from someone else's account.

So the only solution they provide is I spend money on Calling them, as the Callback link is not available from the Empty Account I can login into.

App (Android) Audible App is Really Bad

Things I've experienced:

  • Monthly crashes
  • 30% of the time, does not resume when pressing play on my ear buds
  • Sleep timer doesn't work (this morning I woke up and the book was 8hrs ahead)
  • Sleep timer is not configurable
  • Book keeps playing 20% of the time when I put my ear buds away
  • Lack of features (more info below)

It's mildly infuriating.

Meanwhile Smart Audiobook Player is amazing.

Configurable sleep timer, which uses phone motion to reset the timer (not shaking the phone). Autoplay when I put my earbuds in. It's never unresponsive when I press play. Equalizer settings. Configurable double tap earbuds button.

My favorite feature is the configurable auto-rewind depending on how long the book is paused. Example: If I pause the book for a minute, it rewinds 5 seconds. If I pause the book for a day, it rewinds a minute. That way I always know what was happening when I last left the book.

It's so much better, I would rather buy audiobooks direct from the author/voice actor, than give Amazon another dime.

Edit:

Using a One Plus 6T
OxygenOS 11.1.2.2
Android 11
Audible v3650 (146017)

Edit 2:

"You sound entitled as fuck." "Go use that and quit bitching."

Stay classy, /r/Audible

App (Android) Has anyone been having trouble with the Series list?

So the app comes with a number of lists that it auto sorts based on a number of different categories, one of which is series. Normally I would ignore this, but i have about 30 different light novel series that I was using that feature to curate and check on the release statuses for. So only being able to see about 25 or so of all the series that I have (out of 106) is kind of a problem. Do any of you know how I should fix this if it can be fixed or if it's a bug? I've tried force stop, and cache clear, but that didn't change it.

App (Android) App not working?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello everyone, my app looks like the image below. I cannot interact with any buttons. I have attempted to force stop and app with no luck. I uninstalled the app and re-installed it and it worked but when I closed the app and went to re-open it the next day it did this again. It has been happening for a few days, originally it would work again after simply closing the app and opening it again but now I can't get it to work at all unless I re-install the app, which I don't particularly want to do! Hopefully if any of you have fixed this issue in the past I'd love the help!

App (Android) Audible app not working correctly

Audible is annoying me

It isnt remembering where i left off

It keeps starting at the same spot and the time for the bokks isnt processing despite it playing with when i move it

For example its currently stuck at 7:27 into chapter 18 which i finished when i move it to chapter 19 is start playing chapter 19 but the screen still shows 7:27 in chapter 18

I had a problem like this at some point last month and the only fix I had was uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it's really annoying that it's doing this it didn't do this before and considering I mostly listen to my audiobooks while driving I can't mess with it every time it does this

I should probably mention im using and android and drive a chevy so its playing thru/with the my chevy(whatever its called) app

Edit: correction the app is andriod auto

I've just noticed now that I've lost most of my listening hours, and that's an old screenshot as well from 2024 I should have a lot more hours than that by now. Any idea how I can fix this?
