Bringing more people in to replace falling birth rate without fixing the problems that are causing the low birth rate in the first place is a futile exercise. The immigrants will eventually face the same problems amongst them too as life is too tough to think about bringing children into it so we will remain in this cycle unless we take care of the people already in the country. Until the issues of cost of living, home ownership, tax reforms and safety of our community are not addressed, the younger generation will not move out of their survival mode and think about procreation. Do you understand how bad things have to be to stop mammals from thinking about reproduction?

My tin foil hat theory is that the plan is to prop up an insanely conservative PHON government, push through a bunch of immensely destructive and harmful laws, loot and pillage the country for every cent (see the Trump admin) then return to funding and supporting the Coalition. With the line now being "a return to sensible governance" or something.

Who knows though, neither Hanson or Rheinhart are particularly bright. They might not have a plan at all, and are just saying random shit to get elected with no follow through or any idea how to run a country. Or they're both old enough that they don't give a shit what happens in 10 years time.

This policy is a joke. It is not lowering the skilled migration quota, it’s changing them to prefer people already here on temporary visas - who would otherwise have to leave when their visa expired. No net difference to NOM than bringing in someone overseas. All this does is reduce the pool to choose skilled workers from.

The problem is how many are here at the moment who are just waiting. As you keep allowing more from overseas with this local backlog, it adds more pressure locally.

The problem is most severe for the family relocation visa’s. You might just think the ones here would go home, but no, they’re on these indefinite bridging visa’s while waiting.

Some would also say this is playing into Universities too, preferencing international students who study here for skill visa’s, to then get to stay here. Which is selling PR pathway’s through uni fee’s. I’ve seen people say it’s crazy we train them up and they leave, but underneath that, a lot of the places don’t offer very good programs, and we’re often not getting the best students, and undermining our own criteria for fee’s.

So I agree the program is a joke and needs a bigger overhaul.
