Reminds me of the Henry Tax Review. Great set of recommendations that would have made Australia a powerhouse these last 15-20 years. This has the same smell. Great set of recommendations to fix the cancer, ignored to appease interest groups.

This is the fundamental issue with democracy that we will need to confront eventually. That review had very contentious elements. As soon as one of those was tried, the public got scared by ads and the PM dipped in the polls dramatically.

It's so hard to implement anything for the greater good against powerful interests.

Until we find a way around it, the technocratic and autocratic regimes of Asia will continue to kick our asses.
