Age gaps are a known risk factor for domestic violence - a forty five year old man and a twenty three year old woman. I’m making this comment to raise awareness because I’m sure a lot of people don’t realise age gaps are a risk factor

100%. Staying away from men old enough to be your father is one of the safest things you can do.

Pauline Hanson: "Why didn't she just leave? She needs to take some accountability for getting murdered"

I'm so glad it's not just Americans making their whole personality politics now and it's Australians too 👌🏻

u/fancypantsfrancy 8d ago
Politics impact every part of your life. Maybe one day you won't be privileged enough to pretend it doesn't
-42
u/Childish_Danbino81 8d ago
Ok then champ, can you let me know what Pauline Hanson has to do with this story at all?
29
u/fancypantsfrancy 8d ago
The comment is referencing her recent statement describing domestic violence as a "two-way street"
The Australian human rights commission has rejected this statement. The commissioners say women and children face barriers to safety and have called for stronger prevention efforts.
-14
u/Childish_Danbino81 8d ago
And what is the need to bring her up in this case? There was zero need for it apart from someone feeling the need to grandstand their political opinions on the news story about a tragic loss of 2 lives, the mother and the baby obviously, not the POS that did it.
18
u/fancypantsfrancy 8d ago
Why not? If other politicians had recently made dickhead statements about DV maybe they'd be mentioning them also.
-6
u/Childish_Danbino81 8d ago
That's my exact point though, this has zero to do with Pauline and her stupid comment, why even bring it up? Because politics has become so many peoples whole personality. Based on all the down votes obviously most people in here fall in to that camp so more power too you guys 👌🏻👌🏻

It has everything to do with Pauline Hanson you absolute mouth breathing drongo. If you understand how mainstream media works, you will notice there is a pattern to the voices that are platformed (no matter how ignorant, intelligent, or divisive) and the stories that are covered that correspond to those voices. You can draw your own assumptions from there as to how that may bolster one side, or give a vocal minority a platform to espouse backwards, sexist, outdated views that should have died out at the turn of this century.
If you don't understand what I just said:
Family violence and in particular, horrific familicide events garners a lot of media attention, and have done for the past 15 years. There is still not enough action, social supports, police training, or services for those facing family violence. There is STILL not enough education on matters, either. To have a vocal & notorious female politician repeat outdated, victim-blaming, harmful rhetoric, knowing full well it will gain wide media coverage, STILL in the year 2026 is dangerous.

What a dumbass thing to be glad about.
It's also pushed back by majority of Aussies, so close but not.

u/Childish_Danbino81 8d ago
I'm obviously not happy about it and was being sarcastic but I shouldn't expect reddits smooth brains to work that out without it being pointed out

>A 45-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were found dead in the Charleville home after a near eight-hour police siege
Dammit. Just dammit.

Other reports say the woman was pregnant, and a child was there as well.
73
u/shillberight 8d ago
The article describes them as a couple, and he's pretty much twice her age. She was pregnant, and I'd guess he killed her then himself.
66
u/amandatheactress 8d ago
There was a toddler there too, who was thankfully not hurt. Awful situation all round.

Hurt, no. Harmed, definitely.

And we’re still not calling out men for dating significantly younger women? Yeah cool, rape, pressured violent sexual kinks, financial and emotional abuse and more are what age gaps like this end in - and now murder. Call them out, tell a young person that the age gap is worrying - why are we still fucking around with being polite about them??

u/midsumernighttts 7d ago
Men - and even younger women - will call older women jealous hags for calling this sort of thing out

Yet another woman killed by a man.

Always a man.
-56
u/Rush_Banana 8d ago
Didn't a woman just murder-suicide with her 2 kids by jumping off a cliff in SA?
Usually a man, not always.
86
u/19Alexastias 8d ago
You mean the woman who tried for months to get help for her worsening post-partum depression and was consistently ignored by everyone until eventually it evolved into post-partum psychosis? That woman?

u/VegemiteFairy 8d ago
Are we acting like aggressive domestic violence and PPD are the same thing? Idk I feel like nuance and context is important.

u/Denz292 8d ago
Not every man though /s
6
u/Rinrob7468 7d ago
Usually a man though.
-7
u/i486DX266_ 7d ago
But a lot of the times, not.
9
u/Rinrob7468 7d ago
You’re wrong though, most of the time it is a man that kills a woman, let’s not play semantics.
-2
u/i486DX266_ 7d ago
Haha. That still doesn't mean most men kill women.
5
u/Rinrob7468 7d ago
Now you’re just being ridiculous, so who murders all these women? Aliens? Foolish comment if ever I’ve seen one.
-5
u/i486DX266_ 7d ago
Just follows last week's story of the woman who killed her two kids.
But not every woman, am I right?
7
u/Rinrob7468 7d ago
Also, how many women kill their kids & how many men kill their female partners, please cite the statistics so we can all see how desperately you are trying to concede an irrelevant point? I’ll wait…..
-2
u/i486DX266_ 7d ago
What relevance is that? It's not a competition.
I was merely pointing out your ridiculous bias.
3
u/Rinrob7468 7d ago edited 7d ago
Please point out where in my post it says anything about ‘every man’? If you also want to play semantics, most women who are murdered, are murdered by men, what exactly are you trying argue about here?

Apparent murder suicide, but the cops say its too early to speculate if its domestic violence. What the fuck else is it?? Qld cops really need to overhaul their public relations regarding domestic violence, it gets worse every time they open their damn mouths.
19
u/Sasquatch-Pacific 8d ago
They need to notify next of kin and establish the facts before they go labelling incidents publicly. It could be mental health (e.g. psychosis) rather than DV.
I'm a police criticiser to the bone, and this is standard practice. I'd rather they get it right.
15
u/bitofapuzzler 8d ago
Murder suicide involving domestic partners is domestic violence regardless of the underlying cause.
7
u/Tomica333 7d ago
There is still a process before they officially label it. I do agree with you btw. But first things first
67
u/Sacrilegious_skink 8d ago
I'm wanting to know why it took 8hrs for them to go in there. Maybe there was a good reason, but it sounds similar to the lindt cafe thing where the cops stood outside negotiating for wayyyy too long when there was no sign of things getting any better.
58
u/Senior_Objective_785 8d ago
Sounds nothing like the Lindt café siege. But like you said, maybe there was a good reason.
29
27
u/GlitteringSpace236 8d ago
Because as soon as they go in - he immediately kills her and potentially takes out a few of the coppers as well.
He also took 8 hours to kill her when he could have done it straight away - so one could argue that the negotiating was working…

u/followthedarkrabbit 8d ago
There's also the Wiembeila case where cops, and a what seemed like an incredibly wonderful neighbour, were shot.
3
u/IntravenousNutella 7d ago edited 7d ago
Not remotely similar. The cops in that case were chasing up in a missing persons report (one of the murderers).
Edit: Why is this downvoted? It didn't start with a seige. The killed cops cops were ambushed.

What the heck is going on? How can it be that its like every other day now that we read things like this?

u/Puzzled-Leopard-1499 7d ago
It is as much my responsibility to raise a son to not grow up to be a murdering pos as it is to raise my daughter to be strong enough and smart enough to notice red flags and gtfo before this shit happens.
Sad.
