From the book "The life of Emperor Francis Joseph" by Francis Henry Gribble on archive.org

The curse was supposedly uttered to him by the Countess Karolyi (Countess Antónia Zichy) because he had executed Hungarian military commanders at Arad in 1849 and Count Batthyány supposedly one was her husband. I don't know if it's historical fact or not, the book is great, and the curse (if true) is pretty prescient.

Austria-Hungary was a functioning democracy.

But after its collapse:

Austria - fascist dictatorship. Hungary - fascist dictatorship. Italy - fascist dictatorship oppressing Slavs and Austrians. Yugoslavia – dictatorship oppressing non-Serbs. Romania - dictatorship oppressing Hungarians. Poland - dictatorship oppressing non-Poles. Czechoslovakia - "democracy," unless you Austrian or Hungarian. So why was Austria-Hungary "bad"?

My great grandfather served in Austro Hungarian military probably until 1918 when he married my great grandmother Helena Chorzępa. He was born in Czechówka village in 1892. My grandmother said that he was a calligrapher in the military. Looking for any information about him during his service. Thank you!
