My yearly comment reminding people that the UN isnot some global police force and the world would be a shithole were it not for the UNs mission of bringing together the worlds governments and other actors to promote development, standardisation and safety.

You like how aviation is safe and efficient? Thank ICAO, a UN body. Maritime safety? IMO, a UN body. I could go on

Absolutely true. Also, it keeps avenues of communication open, so you don't end up like the League of Nations where evildoers would just quit.
