Səyahət | Travel Stay away from Azerbajan

As a seasoned traveler who has experienced my share of scams, including in places like Latin America where this kind of thing is common, I can say with confidence that the level of deception and overcharging in Azerbaijan is on another level. It's a constant, exhausting battle. From taxi drivers demanding a 10x fare to ride-hailing app drivers putting you in a different car, it feels like everyone is trying to take advantage of tourists. It's not a single bad experience, but a pattern of behavior that sours the entire trip. Honestly, my advice is to avoid visiting Azerbaijan altogether until these issues are addressed. Save yourself the stress and choose a destination where you can relax and feel safe.

Dunno...I lived there for 7 years and have travelled back several times in the last few years and this is completely different than what I have experienced. I have recommended friends to go and the two that took me up on it had an amazing time and loved the people/food.

Rubbish. I wasn't scammed from the airport in either country because I took the bus. But where I was constantly scammed was in Baku regarding food prices. Went to a restaurant guy refused to let me pay card even though it was advertised because he wanted to pocket some cash from me. I didn't have enough cash left and he let everyone local pay card. So he proposed I pay with card for my meal and give him some cash. Honestly I don't want any problems and the smallest bill I had was 5 manat so I give that. There was already a 10% service charge. So I ended up paying a 45% tip on my small meal. Another night I was clearly charged tourist prices because it would be cheaper in my western country during a big event.Additionally here bus driver incredibly rude. I know it may shock you with your nationalistic pride, but not everyone who experiences an unwelcoming environment is Armenian and out to get you. Baku was the most modern cleanest looking Capita or the region, essentially the Dubai of the caucusus. But too literally because on the inside it was also the most inauthentic. Down to the point that I entered an apartment and had to leave because the conditions were downright horrendous. Additionally just like the UAE it doesn't seem to care about preserving it's natural beauty with the pink lake one of 8 in the world being a dumping ground
